Read: usually.
Also, the latter isn't a fair comparison, considering SS2 wasn't nearly as narratively dense as any installation in the ME franchise.
The inclusion of more players didn't damage the experience because they were integrated into the singleplayer, rather than tacked onto the product like a separate being.

In the case of SS2 the multiplayer it was added later in a patch and frankly didn't work that well. Doesn't mean it wasn't fun though. I just wondered what your sample size was.

I don't think this whole thing is related to ME3 since it's a little late to make Multiplayer in ME3.

So, I guess it might happen when they make a spin-off game that's not related to ME trilogy.

Biowares garbage shooter pandering to sink even lower for ME3? Can we get confirmation of this early so I can forget about finishing this trilogy and buying a Bioware game ever again? I was kind of hoping Bioware would "listen to the fans" and consider that enough shooter oriented attention with ME2, and concentrate on RPG elements for ME3, which were plain awful in ME2.

You know, I said the same thing about pandering to console gamers.

I will never forgive you Bioware for Mass Effect 1.

I think they'd just released M E 2 for the sake of great entertainment (and add new elements into the series about the Character, or to introduce more characters and etc), and probably saving the "real" good stuff for Mass Effect 3 ( M E 3 could be the real M E 2 for M E 1)

Dude Mass Effect 1 was flawless... and M E 2's gameplay is a bit better than M E 1, and ironically not quite better than M E 1 (story wise, certain removed specs/features/locales and etc).

A tiny part of me wants 3 to be a pure online shooter just to give a huge finger to people who use the word "pander" for all tastes but theirs.

I don't see what the big deal is. We don't even have any details yet people are already freaking out and damning the franchise. Who's to say they don't go the Bioshock 2 route, which worked out great, and have two separate teams working on the two aspects of the game?

Indeed....

RTS post-trilogy game seems more likely. Resurrected an old topic, many had some great ideas on the potential gameplay:

Mass Effect 4 to be an RTS?

If ME3 is multiplayer I can honestly say I wont play it.

I would love a seperate ME multiplayer spin off. But if Shepards story is turned into a MP thing Im done with ME and possibly Bioware. As much as I have loved Bioware down the years I dont like where they have been going with there games of late. Mass Effect as an example, RPG fans are been brushed aside to look after the blow-in shooter fans.

ME1->ME2->ME3.

Rpg/Shooter->Shooter/RPG->Multiplayer Shooter?

This isnt what I signed up for in ME. I expected 3 games that would all be in the same genre at least.

Imagine playing 3 games in a series like Grand Theft Auto where the first is a sandbox rpg the second a getaway driver game and the third a straight up Sims style game where you have to run your gangsters family life = Fail.

I loved ME1 loved ME2 even more(even as much as RPG been cut down wasnt my taste) but making ME3 a multiplayer shooter is a staight up FAIL.

I will be disappointed if they take the step backwards that you seem to be clamoring for.  Although they might cater to a stereotypically less... thoughtful crowd, shooters are an enjoyable type of video game too.  And not all of their fans are slackjawed chawbacons.  ME's combat system owes a lot to shooters and tactical RPG's.  ME2 streamlined the clunky ME1.  Sure, you lost your item customization.  Sure, companions don't talk or interact as much as they should.  But do you really want to go back to endlessly repeated interiors, unbalanced combat, and a counter intuitive inventory system?  If you do, you still have ME1.

Thank you, it's nice to see someone who isn't willing to make a snap judgement and get super overdramatic over something we know next to nothing about. I mean, Uncharted 2 had multiplayer that was surprisingly fun, AND the single player didn't suffer one bit for it. If you like the single player, play it and ignore the multiplayer entirely. I'm not the biggest fan of every game going multiplayer either, but come on. Let's be reasonable here.

  That would be priceless, but such an expensive **** YOU! to majority of your customers is a bad idea if you plan to stay on business.

I too seriously doubt this is for ME3, it makes no sense to include MP to a final part of a SP only trilogy, and to be hiring poeple only now is WAY too late for it to be included in ME3. It's a spin-off game.

Listen, I know ME2 is a weak game, but there is no need to fabricate such nonsense that anyone who recognises what a dumbed down, shooter pandering bore ME2 was automatically wants to go back to the flaws of ME1.

I want improvement. Not shooter pandering.

Have your cover based whack-a-mole-gameplay borrowed straight from Gears of War by all means! I just dont expect to be forced into playing it, or have it ruin the main story or gameworld the main story takes place, as it did in ME2.

If you want a constant barrage of waist high walls dotting a main story that is simply traversing from one shooting gallery to the next, there is always Gears of War.

Tbh, Dink, I have been playing some shooters lately, and if ME was to be judged as a shooter alone, it's a poor game. I enjoy multiplayer, but it should stay away from ME games, IMO.

Arguably, for me, where Mass Effect 2 fails are the Gears-style missions like Korlus and Horizon. It's still a fantastic game, it's something I've been thinking about for a few months now. I am happy with it, and how immersive it can get, but their need to cater to a more mainstream audience has hurt the sequel I feel. Essentially 90% of the audience that bought ME 1 are RPG fans, like me, they've alienated some of that audience a bit with ME 2 but now would they risk pretty much most of that audience by including a multi-player mode ala Gears, CoD?

I had been waiting for a while for a good sci-fi RPG like Mass Effect and I was so glad it came, I just hope, regardless, if they include a multi-player mode, that a separate team makes it or that it's DLC / another game. So what I'm saying is, if Bioware listen to the fans and they combine Mass Effect's RPG features (of course with an improvement), pacing, music, immersion, level design (main quest), atmosphere, character development with Mass Effect 2's art style, combat gameplay, characters. Anything less will be a disappointment to me.

Just don't forget your true fans Bioware, the ones who bought the first game for an unforgettable RPG experience and got it. You couldn't blame them for catering also to a more mainstream audience in the 2nd, fortunately I still love the game. I just have my reservations about the third, with or without a multi-player mode.

Thats the crutch though, you cant just judge ME1 as a shooter alone.

You can judge ME2 as a shooter on its own though, since it is what comprises the majority of the game.

ME1 was an RPG/Shooter, with both aspects leaving a lot of room for improvement.

ME2 is a shooter with a dialogue system and the barest RPG residue thrown in as an afterthought.

Since, unlike in ME1 regardless of its many flaws, I cant play the game more in the style of an RPG than a cover based shooter in ME2, I consider that a problem in need of fixing.

Potentially having a large chunk of the game being committed to multiplayer in ME3 tells me Bioware arent "listening to the fans", they are instead "watching the sales" and right now perhaps in their eyes ME2 didnt reel in enough shooter fans as they wanted, as right now the sales sit nowhere near those of the likes of Gears of War.

Each of those could have been improved, rather than taken in an entirely new direction. The abysmal inventory wasn't because the game was "more RPG", it was just because it was terrible designed.

Personally, I'll be waiting to see if this is for ME3 or another game entirely before I make my mind up, but I'm wavering on buying it or not anyway because, as has been said afew times here already, I don't care much for the direction BW are going with their games.

IMO.

That being my reason. Bioware do good stories, but the gameplay itself has never really been good enough to stand up. Since they're cutting down the ammount of story (or even customising and RPing, as is the case with both ME games), or rehashing what they've already done in older games, I've lost my main reason to play them. *Shrug*

Oooh, dear, this was a little bit too much of a ramble. ^_^
