IF this is about Mass Effect 3 then:

1. It had better not be the center of the game like the new combat system was the center of attention for ME2. In other words, ME2 seemed to be built around the combat system, not using the combat system to enhance the game.

2. There had better not be any sacrifices to the single player game to make any kind of multiplayer system even work.

3. It better not be something EA thought up as a “great new idea” to add to the game. Considering their master plan for online play or usage in all of their future games.

Lets just pray that this is for a new Mass Effect title solely aimed at the shooter fan base that ME2 brought in (for better or worse) and something completely new and different.

I don't mind as long as it's optional. If I don't like a game mode I simply ignore it.

Remember, we're the small percentage "Hardcore RPG" fans as Gradier said in the Dragon age forums.

That would strike me as plausable, given they said something about all games from 2011 will have multiplayer.

Apparently so. I guess we are expected to just die out like the dinosaurs as well.
Lets just hope Dragon Age Origins 2 doesn’t get the ME2 treatment and completely rebooted and streamlined.

Woo basically said "We're not telling you the truth or you'll call us sellouts" or something to that affect in that thread they made when they were complaning about him.

They think they can't make any more money with RPG fans I guess "Critically aclaimed" isn't enough.

It would also be a convenient "explanation" for a permanent online requirement...

I used to be convinced ME3 shouldn't be multiplayer because any resources that go into multiplayer would take away from single player design. I don't believe this anymore. I love ME1 and I love ME2 and they still aren't as replayable as a multiplayer game could be. I would love nothing more than for ME3 to deliver an excellent story alongside multiplayer gameplay.

3. If ME3 will have a single player "campaign" as good as the one of ME1 or ME2, that will be enough for me. Multiplayer or not, I won't care as long as it won't steal resources (=time, money, writing and so on) from the single player part.

This.  I like MP, but not if it's going to take away from the storyline.

That’s fine, if BioWare wants to change directions and focus completely on the casual gamer crowd that’s fine with me. I’ll just go to another company and never look back. I’ve done it before with all games made (exclusively) by EA, what’s one more company? I dont need BioWare to get my game fix.

Meh. I hope they don't do it for ME3. There has been lots of talk about keeping the Mass Effect franchise alive after the Shepard trilogy/story is complete, so I hope that's what they're looking into multiplayer for. It would make the most sense that way, although Assassin's Creed is developing a multiplayer add-on right now, and that's a game you wouldn't have really expected multiplayer for.

But still, if Mass Effect goes the route of SW:The Old Republic, it could be interesting, but not before they finish ME3 in the same style as ME1 and 2.

You don't have to constantly jump to conclusions, though. It's one article.

Anyone remember when Javier thought Christina Norman's Twitter said that she was testing a "Cure Thane" DLC?

http://social.biowar...index/1583506/1

Everyone speculated and then found out that Christina Norman was referring to the dress that FemShepard gets from the Kasumi DLC.

So, it's nowhere near confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will have a multiplayer option - otherwise, they would have started hiring these types of programmers before development started to work in tandem with the rest of the team.

The job description makes it look like they want someone who can program a BioWare version of Battle.Net on multiple consoles. Extrapolating upon that (and the fact that Casey Hudson said that the Mass Effect universe will not end after the 3rd), it really looks like they're going to make a Mass Effect themed RTS in the manner of Starcraft I/II.

BioWare wants to compete with Blizzard in the RTS department too - and not just MMORPGs. However, that is Blizzard's specialty.

Hoping they'll try for a co op approach with future ME franchise games. I very much doubt they'll break away too much from the formula with the current ME trilogy.

Unless Bioware are looking to replicate the ME single player experience EXACTLY in another single player spinoff, this comment:

"Multiplayer Programmers ensure the game engine and game systems work reliably and efficiently in a multiplayer environment. They work with both the front and back ends to take existing single player user experiences and make them multiplayer safe."

Would suggest its most likely for ME3.

Right now I just wouldnt put it past BiowarEA to look at ME2 and rather than say "maybe we went overboard with the shooter, lets give the RPG side a boost in ME3 instead", turn around and say "the sales are still nowhere near that of Gears of War, lets add multiplayer!"

I played ME1 three times. ME2, six times. I think they both have solid replay value, and I feel I more than got my monies worth. It's hard to see how multiplayer wouldn't pull resources away from single player. There's only so much room on a disc, right? and they needed two of them for ME2.  Every damn game nowadays has to have multiplayer - and shoddy multiplayer at that.

Of course, this may be a false alarm. Well have to wait and see.

EA presents... Battlefield: Mass Ef... OH WAIT

i can imagine mp if me3 would be more shooter (probably even more than me2)

harder to think about multiplayer if they make me1/2 hybrid based on players' suggestions (*maybe* a 3 player coop, but implementing that would be probably way too complex)

I think the connection between the player and their Shepard is really personal, all your choices and alliances and enemies are personal. I don't really want to be running around with other people with MY Shepard..it's just as unfathomable as say, letting someone read my diary. It gives me the same yucky feeling as having one of those dreams where you accidentally go to school naked.

I can't imagine the silliness of multiple Shepards running around, so I assume that the multiplayer portion of the game will not focus around Shepard...which begs the question, what WILL it focus around? Whatever the answer, why would that be part of the game at all?

I have no idea what they have up their sleeves for this, and I really want to trust BioWare on this, but I'm kind of pessimistic.

My 2 cents!

I would not mind maybe a whole seperate Co-Op missions like Spec Ops or maybe even a whole new Co-Op campaign but if they lessen the awsomeness of the single player, You have my word i will personally go on a **** slapping spree

In a MP ME universe, along with the canned story arc there would be additional player driven RP experiences as well. It's potentially a treasure trove of stories and real hardcore RP.
