Right now I just wouldnt put it past BiowarEA to look at ME2 and rather than say "maybe we went overboard with the shooter, lets give the RPG side a boost in ME3 instead", turn around and say "the sales are still nowhere near that of Gears of War, lets add multiplayer!"

In Christina Norman's presentation at GDC this year, she said she is going to implement more rpg elements in ME3.

And I want BioWare to do well and sell a lot of games, but not at the cost of the core experience of one of their biggest franchises. And I believe adding multiplayer to ME3 will ruin the core experience.

as much as I love Norman (the only real dev I like), she's not the boss.

EA is the best game company. I trust this will be amazing.

This is a rage troll smelling an obvious troll

All the rage trolls seem to have no idea why a MMORPG ME game will fail.  Just a feeling that it could potentially harm the story or something.

I'm going with the EA fans on this one, it's potentially winsauce in a bottle.

Listen it wont have multiplayer in ME3 it is already to far into development for them to add it when they dont even have the job filled

it takes a while to hire someone get them settle and integrated into the team there is no fear of ME3 have multiplayer IMHO

Right. But even if EA is the boss, they know well enough that they wouldn't start hiring multiplayer programmers for a game that's already well into development.

A Mass Effect "4" RTS is still much more likely.

That depends on whether the genophage is cured or not. If not cured, they'd probably have the longest breeding/building time of all the units.

Arggh! Remember how Uncharted 1 was really good and then for Uncharted 2 they announced multiplayer? We all predicted that it would take away from the single player and of course, the game did turn out to be a horrible, scummy, piece of fail. And now BioWare might be doing it too! Didn't you learn anything from Naughty Dog's misguided attempts BW?

Well Uncharted 2 was different in Uncharted 1 in that the campaign was the same length (while in the case of the ME games they are both really long but I feel that normally you'd expect multiplayer to come as a detriment to campaign length, look at COD4 compared to COD2 for instance), even though it was better in every way and the Co-Op modes were fabulous I think outside of Pinnacle Station that multiplayer would be a detriment.

Besides those Sony studios of Naughty Dog and Insomniac are probably the most efficient game developers outside of Blizzard and Valve. Not even Bioware could attempt something like that with similar success (if they do expect it to be a bugfest).

Hmm.. looking for someone to make multiplayer... just after movie announced... Hollywood doesn't like old games as a companion product...

I will guess a stand-alone game set in the ME universe to go with the movie (neither of which involve Shepard), possibly a FPS.

I would consider a ME RTS, I don't want to play a ME RPG/TPS. As long as a ME3 multiplayer component doesn't detract from the core game experience, then I will be OK.

Uncharted is way different from Mass Effect though. Mass Effect is far more complex, and it would be much easier to screw up a game like Mass Effect than the 6 hour action orgy that is Uncharted.

Baldur's Gate II had co-op multiplayer, so I dont get what the big deal is since Im sure everyone will agree that game is far more RPGish than ME ever was.

The job description makes it look like they want someone who can program a BioWare version of Battle.Net on multiple consoles. Extrapolating upon that (and the fact that Casey Hudson said that the Mass Effect universe will not end after the 3rd), it really looks like they're going to make a Mass Effect themed RTS in the manner of Starcraft I/II.

BioWare wants to compete with Blizzard in the RTS department too - and not just MMORPGs. However, that is Blizzard's specialty.

If that is true, then :o

I hope they include space battles, and take a leaf of Homeworld and/or Sins of a Solar Empire.

Multplayer doesn't fit the particular Mass Effect Trilogy. If they decide to go multiplayer later on in a franchise, fine by me. But don't - and I am totally serious!! - ruin ME3. Concenrate on creating the most epic, choice driven single player game out there! Then go muliplayer if you have to, Bioware!!

If it´s in ME3 and the single-player experience suffers from it --> NO! + No more BW games will be purchased, only torrented, rapidshared and so on.

They could make an extra DVD for it or do it like Assassins Creed. I don´t care for that.

Im surprised no one thought of restrictive co op like in Tales of symphonia it was only in battle and then it was single player again. Make it something were its optional and restrictive so it has it but focuses on single player. Like make team split up missions for example when leaving a team member with garrus during recruitment mission. For split ups like that a restrictive co op sorta like fable were it has no effect on the story and is completely restricted and optional

The problem with a multiplayer is that it can affect the single player campaign. If they will make a multiplayer, they will probably put less efforts in the single player.
