Because the only reason Avatar was a success was because of the 3-D gimmick. In reality it was Pocahontas in space.

there were not scientists among the explorers trying to understand the natives and unless I'm blind I don't think the native americans could attach their hair to animals

I love all the people who say that just to be nonconformists that think they're clever. "Oh hey this movie is great and and everyone likes it? Oh it sucks then lol!" Avatar is great and you know it.

It would be a dream come true if James Cameron directed the Mass Effect movie.

the reason people are like that is because we all know the movie is a overrated hunk of crap that and even any average writer could make a better script than that joke of a movie. movie wasn't bad that's for sure but was it good? hehe no

but than again you know what they say? ppl enjoy the sight of shiny things and james cameron took that for his advantage and ****ed you guys up. thats right son you were played by a ego-tripping multi millionaire who all he cares about is the profit he makes and not the quality of his movie

now if james cameron was directing it than all i would say is fml

I hope for the best but I can't help and think this is exactly what will happen.

You're arguing at inane specifics.

It's about a foreigner (usually a white man) who's commissioned by a greedy invading force attempting to conquer the resource-rich frontier, learns about the indigenous people, falls in love with one of the locals, goes native, and fights off the invading force, eventually brokering a compromise between the two.

the only people who said that Avatar sucked were attention ****s that thought they were more intelligent than others and pretended to know much about the hollywood industry.

People like that give retarded justifications to bash Avatar. "lulz no properly written rommance and no OMFGZ original quotes, this movie sucks, hollywood sucks"

no fcking Sh*t it was a shiny pew pew movie. It was never intended to be an epic saga, just a guy experimenting with some science ficiton dreams. Who honestly didnt love robots, gunships, blue aliens with ponytail USBs on dragons.

If you want to watch a gay chick flick or a drama, then do so and criticize that. Avatar was very aesthetically pleasing, and had suprisingly decent acting and story for what it was intended to be

what's wrong with cliches?
the past 20 years of fantasy literature, movies, and games have been the same tolkien-based crap over and over again

"lolololol dwarves(LOLOLOL DRUNK GIMLI SHORT <<< live underground!), elves(OMFG LEGOLAS PEW PEW), goblins, trolls, orcs, men, good vs evil"

still, each time the writers are still trying for different details, and they still manage to make a ton of money by recyling it

I love your ideas. And I support this idea wholeheartedly.
Give Mass Effect the Dogville treatment!
Alternatively, resurrect Ingmar Bergman and have the film self-destruct halfway through the second act, and then reassemble itself for the remaining half hour as an instruction video for pilates.
At least it would be interesting.

Avatar recieved all around great responses from critics and noncritics. For some reason you feel like you are above enjoying popular things, or, like I said before, you just feel the need to be nonconformist which is ****ing stupid. You're probably some pathetic antigovernment goth punk who despises happy people. Why don't you go back to developing your 9/11 conspiracy theories.

Avatar only works if the natives are attractive, culturally and sexually to us. If the the aliens were a bit more warlike, perhaps a bit more morally gray and even dare I say it, ugly, it wouldn't have had the response it did. Cameron knows how to work his audience but the movie is utterly manipulative.

I wouldn't mind Avatar's graphics technology being used in ME, but JC himself directing it? Hell no. Any of ME2's loyalty missions alone have more moral complexity than the entirety of Avatar.

And the whole "lol you only hate it cuz its popular" excuse is stupid. I went in expecting it to be good because of all the hype and word of mouth. I hated it purely because of the movie's own merits.

What the hell does this mean?  The artist's intention does not automatically make their work valid. That's right, some people produce crap - a known fact.

Well technically everyone produces crap.

what was honestly wrong with avatar?

you came there to see awesome designed CGI aliens fighting 22th century humans in walkers and gunships. The trailers never said anything else other than: "Come watch this massive pew pew fest"

Sure the plot could have had some work on it, but the acting was quite good. What were you expecting? a beautiful drama? an epic? a shakesperean worthy quote fest?

Wish the humans would have nuked those Dirty Blue Hippies back into protoplasm,

but hey, that's what sequels are for.

Why do I read this and it screams 13 year old looking for attention with the swearing and such.

Vocabulary so limited they cant function with out swearing (or getting around the editor) to appear functional and older then they are!

I stopped reading at LULZ as responder just trying way to hard to be older and better then what he really is in real life.

TO ALL THE 'CLEVER', 'OBSERVANT' PEOPLE THAT LIKE TO POINT OUT OVERUSED ELEMENTS OF THE AVATAR PLOT:

Star Wars!: Based many elements (see: shamelessly ripped off)  from several Akira Kurosawa films, including Hidden Fortress, Rashomon, Yojimbo, etc. In case you didn't notice, that film was pretty well liked by a few people here and there, I dunno

The Magnificent Seven!: Largely considered to be one of the best American Westerns. Is literally based on Seven Samurai. Nobody really cared, because it was a great movie.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly! (And all the other 'Man With No Name' films!): Yojimbo, again. Nobody cared, again. Great movies, it doesn't matter if the plot and characters have been reused. What matters is that they put said plot and characters into a new setting befitting of the theme.

The Departed!: Won a bunch of Oscars, was directed by a stud you may or may not have heard of... Martin Scorsese? Ringing any bells? Yeah, this was pretty much a shot-for-shot remake of a Chinese film, Infernal Affairs.

I could go on. My point is, great movies are often based on equally great predecessors. Such is the case with Avatar. Plenty of people don't like it, that's your opinion, you're entitled to it so by all means, keep it to yourself. But don't go waving your 'NON-CONFORMIST', 'ANTI-SHEEPLE', 'AVANT-GARDE' bull**** in anyone's face just because they liked a movie you don't agree with. You can dislike the film all you want, but look at the FACTS: James Cameron spent a TON of the budget on technology to read the actor's faces when they assumed their space kitty forms. Yes, you heard that right - MONEY WAS SPENT ON CONVEYING EMOTIONS, NOT JUST PEW PEW EXPLOSIONS AND ACID TRIP SCENERY. SHOCKING, I KNOW. You can disagree with Cameron, and yes he is a flaming douchebag in real life, but he's a good director. And he makes good films.

...

What is this thread about again?

As long as its not Uwe Boll directing…

M. Night Shyamalan could pull it off I think. Loking at what he’s done for The Last Airbender

I doubt James Cameron would do the Mass Effect film for several reasons. The biggest is he already working on Avatar 2.

Because I was expecting more than "Come watch this massive pew pew fest" from James Cameron. If I wanted a mindless pew pew fest, I would watch Transformers. At least it doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is.
