Considering Shepard isn't apart of the Alliance any more, means he/she shouldn't wear N7 armour either.

Systems Alliance: N7
The Alliance Military Vocational Code system classifies the career path of all serving personnel. The MVC consists of one letter and one number. A soldier's MVC indicates proficiency, not rank. The letter notes career path; the number indicates level of experience, as indicated by service record, technical scores, and commendations. All 26 letters are used, and numbers run from 1 to 7. N is the letter code for Special Forces personnel.
-----------------
N7 is a vocational code in the Systems Alliance military. The 'N' designates special forces and the '7' refers to the highest level of proficiency. It applies to marines who have graduated from an elite training program. Both David Anderson and Commander Shepard are classified as N7; Anderson was one of the first graduates.

Come on guys, I actually had a sincere question. Thank you for all the positive feedback.
There's a game codex, and it's pretty extensive.

Wait ,Ok N7 is pecial of course since its special forces but why dont any other alliance troops have there corisponding letter and number on there armor?
technical oversight most likely...trying to save space to be used in other things.....unfortunately we know how bioware's policy of '"save space to be used in something else" works with em so.

Oh I see ,but wouldnt they have there number on there chest like shep or on an arm band like liara or the exo geni people in reality
yeah. But not having to add all those things, saves space to be used on something else. Then again as I've said, that saved space is not used wisely... unfortunately

Quoted from Mass Effect Wikia on Ashley Williams.
"According to Bioware's official data, Ashley's Military Vocational Code
is B4 and her Blood Type is B-Positive. She had received genetic
enhancements including in-utero vision correction (maternal
predisposition for nearsightedness) and class-B Alliance Infantry
Upgrade Package."
