I'm adding a NonParty Follower on my area load using the following script and it works fine so far, he follows and attacks using Sten's AI which I set in the creature editor:
case EVENT_TYPE_AREALOAD_PRELOADEXIT:
{
object oSidekick = GetObjectByTag("sidekick_follower");
AddNonPartyFollower(oSidekick);
SetFollowerState(oSidekick, FOLLOWER_STATE_ACTIVE);
}
I need this character to not die until a certain point in my area, and I would prefer using No Permanent Death over Immortal or Plot, but it appears No Permanent Death doesn't work on him. Plot and Immortal do.
When he gets to zero health, he dies and can be looted, and the loot on him is actually the contents of MY inventory (wtf?).
If I remove the SetFollowerState(oSidekick, FOLLOWER_STATE_ACTIVE); line from the script (which is actually not necessary since he behaves fine without it), he still dies but doesn't have loot on him.
I also tried putting both the player and him in Team 1 (from -1) to see if that changes anything, but it didnt.
It is not possible for NonParty Followers to have No Permanent Death?

No Permanent Death means the creature can be resurrected; it can still die and remain dead.
You have to use Immortal or Plot if you don't want that to happen. I don't know if you can script creature death when it is set to Immortal but Plot should do what you want.
FOLLOWER_STATE_ACTIVE adds the creature to the party pool and the active party. I assume this means he is part of your regular party make-up (are you playing with 4 members in your party already? If yes, you could remove one and see if the sidekick is an actual party member).
The inventory loot is weird though.

I was under the impression No Permanent Death meant he gets back up after combat is over. Is there no way to do that for NonParty Followers?
There are no actual party members in my mod, only this NonParty Follower for a short time. Whether I set FOLLOWER_ACTIVE_STATE or not he behaves the same way (follows me like a Climax army NPC but doesn't join my actual party). I guess I'll just use Immortal and turn him inactive when he dies in the cutscene.
