Far-fetched is fine.

Rolling a million sided die and having it come up 1 eighteen times in a row is not far-fetched.
It's retarded.

Agreed, there's a very thin line between far-fetched and retarded.

You're putting too much emphasis on plot feasibility, when that wasn't the purpose of the movie.

Accept that the gods willed it, or something to that effect, and enjoy the movie.  Because the movie was great.

Peter Jackson. The man made the best film of this decade in my opinion (Return of the King). Sci-Fi may be a different speed for him, but we know he's at least expressed interest in the genre (as evidenced by the Halo film that eventually went down to tube, and his involvement in District 9). He can tell an epic story, adapted that which they said (myself included) couldn't be adapted, and is just a great film maker.

He also made that thoroughly godawful King Kong adaptation, for which I will never forgive him.

I didn't think it was that bad. Forgettable, maybe. Especially considering what he had to follow up.

I had a hard time not leaving the theater in fits of laughter after the dinosaur chase and bug scene.

Really, it was overblown tripe that took itself way too seriously.

Eh, to each his own I guess. Frankly, I'd rather a ME movie not get made AT ALL.

Not everything has to be sophisticated to be good.  Mass Effect (the game) isn't particularly sophisticated.

Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are a good deal more sophisticated than the majority of video games out there.

Danny Boyle please
Fullstop

As much as I LOVE Danny Boyle, what is it about his style that would work for Mass Effect.

Hes just a brilliant director. He would do an excellent job. He's actually got a pretty diverse range of styles.

Maybe. I just have a feeling that he works best on a small scale, which is not Mass effect. Although, to be fair, Sunshine kicked righteous ass, so at least there's no doubt that he can do sci-fi well.

Actually, come to think of it, he could potentially do a good Mass Effect movie. It depends, but at least you can't say that his direction's generic. I dunno. I still sort of feel that Mass Effect is a little too big for him.

Yep, Sunshine.
Just... Sunshine........ Need I say more?
He can do it.

Ridley Scott is a good choice. Unfortunately his latest stuff is a mixed bag. If he could deliver another sci fi like Blade Runner, I'd be happy.

Other suggestions not mentioned: Clint Eastwood (chances 300,000 to 1, but he does good work)

Martin Campbell could maybe do decent work (see Casino Royale), as well as Richard Donner (superman, Goonies, Lethal Weapon), and John Carpenter (though his direction automatically makes a film underappreciated and dissapointing to many).

Guillermo del Toro - Pan's Labyrinth, The Hobbit (prequel to LotR)
Peter Jackson - Lord of the Rings
Joss Whedon - Firefly
Bryan Singer - Xmen

Are all capable of using CG without ABUSING it and weaving together an excellent adaptation from 3rd party material. They have the best chances of making a quality Mass Effect movie.

Joking... I believe the directors of Mass Effect would do the best job duh!

This might actually not be that bad. Think about it, everything that Shep touches turns into explosions anyway.

If the movie's gotta be made, my vote's for Ridley Scott. Alternatively "anybody but JJ Abrams" is my second choice. I'd take Shyamalan over that hack.

Christopher Nolan.
This man is not only a genius with impressive directing skills but more importantly, he's capable of manage the characters and dwell into their psychology making the very rich without sacrificing the story.
Under Nolan's direction, Shepard vs Saren would be so epic it's hard to describe.
