GAME:  Mass Effect 2 (v1.01)
MEDIA: Digital Download via Steam
OS:  Windows Vista
DIRECTX:  10
CPU:  Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
GPU:  nVidia GeForce GTS250 - VRAM 1GB (197.45)
SOUND: Creative SB X-Fi (6.0.1.1374)

(Yes, I know. My username is hilarious! I never really expected to post anything on the forums so I just made a ridiculous username to the biggest bro in the game and it is also satire, for when I made my account much of the Garrus/Tali drama was ensuing so it seemed appropriate.)
I digress,   Hello. I have been having a problem concerning movement locks and jumps when backing away from cover or moving away from cover by rolling out of it and then rushing past it. These problems have lead to situations like this: http://img4.imagesha...640/thefric.png   As for the movement lock problem, I will walk away from a cover and then be locked in the position I originally got up in, but I can walk in all possible directions and fire in those directions aswell. However, this problem doesn't allow me to grab onto cover as easily, for I must press my cover button about six times. This problem occurs nearly everytime I play, however it is only recent. This puzzles me as I can not think of anything I have done that could affect the game in this odd way.
Has anyone else been experiencing these problems, and/or has anyone figured out how to remedy them?

Yes, common.

The second problem first, I find sprinting usually fixes this the best. Some will suggest trying to enter cover again (and again, and again). Both work, but neither 100% of the time. Just keep jamming yourself into cover and trying to sprint and you'll 'POP' back into sync with the targeting cursor.

I think its the change of FOV that causes it, its definitely what fixes it. There's a slight FOV change when you enter/exit cover and a larger one when you try to sprint. Very annoying when it happens mid-combat. Out of combat if it persists, obviously saving and reloading will fix it.

The first problem second. On the PC its an easy(ish) fix that requires a willingness to edit the coalesced.ini (and the right tool to recompile the ini when you're done editing it). You need to add a bind for entering 'ghost' mode which will let you phase through/down whatever has you stuck (or floating), and then return to normal 'walk' mode to continue playing.

Search your coaleseced.ini for

[SFXGame.SFXGameModeBase]

and within that section, add the bind

Bindings=( Name="RightAlt", Command="Ghost | OnRelease Walk" )

You can use any recognised (by ME2) key, I just use RightAlt because its easy to mash in a rush. The above version will enter ghost mode when RightAlt is held down, and go back to walk mode when RightAlt is released. When you're stuck or floating, hold RightAlt, move a little, release... all fixed.

Once you've added the bind you'll need to recompile the coalesced.ini via me2inifixer or some other program (there's a few in the Projects section of the social site, search for 'coalesced'). You may also have to 'reset to default' your key bindings within the game once you've changed your coalesced.ini and restarted ME2.

Good luck, hopefully these bugs will be fixed one day, until then these fixes will get you through.

Thank you very much for your help!

Is there even a formal bug report for Mass Effect 2? I was searching online last night and was unable to find one.

Just hit escape to bring up the menu, and then escape again to get back into the game works just as well, and is a lot quicker.
