Sorry to sound so blunt lol.

What level would you say you had to be to at least attempt the mages tower? I've been at it all afternoon, and no it's just getting too hard for me. It's bad enough that you're alone whilst there.

I'm thinking about just re-loading to the point before i entered the tower and just carrying on with other things until i'm strong enough.

I'm a rogue...been playing for 17 hours, not sure on my level, but it's not massive.

I went there first and had no real problems on hard. I had to reload a couple of times, but only one particular encounter was frustrating and that was only because I was doing something incredibly dumb over and over before I realized it.

bump it down to easy...there's no shame in that.

well on normal difficulty i had no problems with it, i think i was level 14 or so when i went to the mages tower, might be even lower as i did the mages first, then redcliffe, then the elves and the the dwarves. saved the city elves for last. maybe it has something to dow ith your party composition?
what tactics are you using? what classes do u have in your party etc?

allso attempting hardmode after reloading a save was much more fun but not very challenging.

party composition: Liliana, morrigan and alistair.

I found it quite difficult at first, took a day off and came back to it with a renewed attitude, and just finished it off last night. I play a rogue as well, was ~lvl 7 when I started. I think the main thing for me was to take it slow, stealth open doors, scout around to see what might add, and make good use of the extra forms as you acquire them. I really enjoyed this part of the game, as it gave me a real sense of accomplishment.

Good luck!

Edit: Oh yeah, traps, traps, traps!

I am lvl 8 (was 7 when starting it) and have gotten quite far in to the tower without that much trouble. The fights with tougher enemies are difficult and have forced me to reload at least once/fight, but most fights are pretty easy.

I am playing on hard, but on xbox, which apparently is more like normal on pc..

But i am a mage, which might be easier than doing it with a rogue. My party is leliana, alistair and wynne.

Make sure that Morrigan learn Heal, and take Wynne with you. Then store some potions.

Problem solved. :)

I think the most frustrating and rage quitting event of the Circle of Magi tower was the fade. Besides that, there may be a few encounters that throw you off the rhythm, but you can always lower the difficult settings. Worst case scenario, load a save state and come back when you've better prepared yourself.

I dont think it was hard, had more trouble with the dwarf area(anvil etc.), though the end quest in mage tower was way too long and wasnt any fun running all over the place for that long.

Well...i'm on my own at the moment so it doens't make a difference what party members i'm using.

It's just me...a rogue, with a sword and shield and bow. She seems very weak though ya know...compared to the likes of Alistair. I'm really struggling with it. Because i'm on my own, tactics don't really matter do they?

Can't believe you guys did it first off. I feel really **** now lol.

Enemies scale to your level. So if you are having trouble now gaining a few levels might not help much.

oh - i'm sorry. I forgot to mention that it is the fade part that i am having trouble with! not the actual tower bit before it.

Soloing will be difficult to say the least. No harm no foul in bringing even a companion or full party. If you find the tower annoying, you'll find Denerim even worse (e.g. darkspawn archers lol).

I went to the Mage tower after I had visited redcliff so it was quite early in my playthrough and I found only one encounter to be hard.

you don't get a choice though - in the fade you HAVE to do it solo...at least at the start anyway.

okay.

so...do the bad guys level up with you then?

if that is the case, then i can only assume that going to the tower more or less ASAP will make it easier, as the bad guys will be weaker?

I also wanted to off her but showed restraint and took her with me :P

As for the Fade.. I have it on easy but there is still so much running around back and forth! GRRRR!! :P

I played normal at level 11 with a mage. I skipped the redcliffe quest and went brecillian forest and then this.

On the fade part, yes you do have to do it solo, but when you use your form correctly your should have no problem i don;t know how far you are in but some forms are strong against certain monsters there, and some are weaker and some have no use at all in combat etc. try it out and see if it helps. but as a rogue you should have no problems.
i wish i had stealth when i did it =) *i had but i don;t wanna tell about spoilers.*
