The fade.. I completed as the first thing when i got freedom(wanted wynne and Oghren asap).

I was a mage, I remember succeeding by a mix of using fireball for crowds and using force field/crushing prison to take out the stronger enemies.

Oh and do not forget the dying and the running. Lots of that.

If youre dying a lot in the Fade part of the Tower, youre not using the spirit forms right.

the fade isn't that bad once you start getting some of the forms. It depends on the way u are trying to go. IF you can get a few of the forms you should be alright and why are u using a shield as a rogue. I thought rogues where more of a duel wielding type.

yes - i normally use 2 daggers.

But - for this scenario i thought the shield and sword would be more powerful. The sword definatly causes more damage.

Well...i'm on my own at the moment so it doens't make a difference what party members i'm using.

It's just me...a rogue, with a sword and shield and bow. She seems very weak though ya know...compared to the likes of Alistair. I'm really struggling with it. Because i'm on my own, tactics don't really matter do they?

Can't believe you guys did it first off. I feel really **** now lol.

You need to get Burning Man Form ASAP.   Once you get that, forget about using your main form, very often except to set traps and such.  When you first encounter combat, game pauses, cast fireball and run away.  Rinse and repeat.   Once you get Stone Form, you can cast fireball, then activate Stone Form and tank.  ( I still cast at least 2 fireballs before tanking).
Once you get the final form, you can do Burning Man -> 4th form -> Stone Form.  I did switch to my main (mage) a few times to get additional spells out but didn't really need to.  Casting Fireball and running away till the cooldown timer is up works perfectly.  B)   I was level 9-10 while doing it.

9 or 10, I don't think I could of done it without Allistair who's really started to shine as a tank at this point. With the newly acquired Wynne backing him up, it wasn't too difficult. The Fade section though, is the worst post of the game thus far. It just isn't fun, it's too much of a disconnect from the main story. It's long, it's confusing, it's bad.

I found things to get significantly easier once into the fade and after I had the burning man and golem forms. Once I put together a good strategy I blew through the fade. I would start with burning man and open up with an aoe fireball, shapeshift to golem and throw an aoe boulder, then when they get into melee range hit them with the ground shaking ability. By then all the enemies would be low health and could be easilly finished off.

If you're a Rouge, do you have poison making? Those grenades should help a lot. Throw, run, throw then engage. Same with traps. If you're playing a rouge you really do need to get one of those if not both otherwise you're gimping yourself.

I actually enjoyed the Fade part, namely because it really makes you think about how to use the forms youre given. I was sad to see it end. (The rewards you get in it arent too bad either)

Yup, it's difficult for my rogue too (on hard difficulty). Generally I'm out of stamina before mobs are dead, so it's painfully slow chipping mobs health away with autoattacks. Few health potions are needed. Or traps.

After getting mouse form from the N location, I went clockwise for the next two and didn't have any problem. Won't go into it in more detail so as not to spoil, but that starting order worked well for me as a shield & sword Warrior.

I did Burning Tower first, if you sneak around as the mouse you don't have to do much combat. Remember that if you click those Lyrium veins it fills up your health and power and they recharge pretty quickly so scope out where those are and don't be afraid to run back to them if you're having problems with an encounter.

It gets a lot easier after you finish that first one.

Contrary to some of the other players, I really liked this part of the game! Here are some pointers from when I done it:
  • the mouse form is a great escape artist. Kill and enemy then get some distance between you and your enemies and just form and stealth, I only broke stealth once when near a hound but then just ran through a mousehole and stealthed again.
  • As a rouge you can dual wield with a sword in main and a dagger in off hand (unless you have the talent that lets you dual wield swords). A rogues strength is in its ability to suppress and damage NOT tank. So you have to finish them off quickly. You already mentioned that your sword does more damage so use it and a dagger. Also, have you tried using dirty tricks? Stun then run behind to get in a backstab or two.
  • The lyrium veins are your friends, pull an enemy to a vein and if you run low on health then use it.
  • Pausing is your friend. If you're really struggling then pause every few seconds to check your health and such.
  • If you have any poisons use them in any fights that you struggle with as they increase your damage for a short while.
  • Don't use a potion or lyrium vein if you're not in combat, your health and stamina comes back soon enough anyway and you're better off saving them in case there is something around the corner.
  • Save once in a while, if I started struggling in an area then I would use the quick save (F5) or a proper save after every batch of enemies or room.
  • The form from the burning tower is really useful, try and get it sooner rather than later.
  • Last tip: Examine each of your forms skills carefully, I'm sure you'll be able to work out whats good for what situation
Obviously not all these tactics and tips will help you but hopefully you'll be able to adapt some of them to your playstyle. Good Luck. Now I'm off to struggle through the annoying dwarf part :(

This is one of my favorite parts of the game too. Use mouse/stealth as much as you need to to get to the other forms, and do use the lyrium veins tactically as needed during combat- that's why they're there. Once you have some of the combat forms, use those abilities flexibly. And don't just stay in one form during combat: Lead off with a fireball from Burning Man, then switch to Spirit and use Cage and Winter's Grasp on two of your enemies, then switch to Golem and use Quake... if you use your forms effectively you'll feel very powerful and have a lot of fun.

Until you get to the Sloth Demon, that is. That combat was not fun for me, it just dragged on too long.

Spirit forms are the key to the fade. The Golem and Templar forms pretty much destroy.

It seems to go on forever as you have to back track when you get all the forms. The mouse stealth form really lets you get in close and suprise.

If you are having trouble with certain mobs, try switch forms.. like i said, i recommend golem and templar the most.

The sloth demon is tough and time consuming, keep Wynne near a Lyrium vein so she can replenish

Start fights in Spirit form and cast Regen right before you engage, then quickly switch to back to warrior, rogue or burning man for fighting. If low on health switch back to Spirit and cast regen again.

Did I see you say you were a rogue with a sword and a shield? I don't think a shield is what you want to be using, unless you really, REALLY want extra armor. Your damage is going to be from dual wielding or a bow.

That being said, forms are very, very useful there. There was one time where the huge group of mages in the room nuked me before I could get to them all, but otherwise, I found it ok.

A couple of tips:
A. Golem form against the casters.  With the earthquake type effect you'll take down a ton of their health and stun them.  Combine that with the huge punch and they fall pretty quickly.
B. Fire demons and other fire attacks do zero, zilch to you in Fire form
C. Use mouse + stealth to look around and scout things out before running in.

Once I got Golem, I rarely clicked it off, just did so well against most of the enemies in the Fade.

very easy. Went in at level 9 human warrior.

It's even easier when you get some of the other forms. mages throwing fireballs at you? just go fire burning man. easy.

You guys DO know that those lyrium veins both HEAL and give mana back right? I was in golem form fighting the demon..used it to get health back..my whole party was dead at that point...just realize you have to switch lyrium veins every so often because they do go dormant...eventually you can win that fight. Was a definite challenge as killing the Sloth demon..the first time isn't the only time ..you have to kill all his forms.

Sorry to sound so blunt lol.

What level would you say you had to be to at least attempt the mages tower? I've been at it all afternoon, and no it's just getting too hard for me. It's bad enough that you're alone whilst there.

I'm thinking about just re-loading to the point before i entered the tower and just carrying on with other things until i'm strong enough.

I'm a rogue...been playing for 17 hours, not sure on my level, but it's not massive.

That was the first place I did outside of Lothering. It's far more easy than Redcliffe or Orzimmar.

Remember that you can use the mouse form to just sneak through many encounters.
