(Origins) Problem with City Elf and disappearing sword.

I am running the City Elf origin story. When the cousin slides the main the sword, she stoops to pick it up but it never goes into inventory, or her hand. Therefore, the ensuing fight goes on endlessly. Any help? Thanks.
