Is this the downloader that is compatible with Steam or not? I tried it once, and there were problems.

Would really appreciate some feedback. I'd like not to attempt another download to discover only the same thing is happening a second time.
What should I be doing to ensure that I can install it properly? I just changed the Compatibility to Vista. Is there anything else?

Still seeking some information. I've looked at older forums at Steam and the meforums Mass Effect forums, but that info is older.
Some confirmation would be great.

Weekends on all user forums are always slow. Message traffic peaks late in mid-week. However, it is always slow in this forum anyway. I have a strong preference for hard copy, and a very expensive cost here to move upward from a relatively low version of broadband, so I stick with the "mid-width" that I have now, not good enough to want to use for a game-size download.

I have the steam version and used the normal pc downloader you linked up there, the install found the steamversion of the game and it worked just fine.
Sadly, I can't help with Vista, run on XP still. Maybe only thing you need to take care of, having steam somewhere where windows does not interfare with writing and overwriting files (like program files, heard that gives some problems with games and patching, updating etc under Vista)

I apologize if I came off as impatient. Admittedly, I am. A little anxious too, maybe.
Velissia, are you saying I should try relocating my Steam folder?

If the installer doesn't work, it can't hurt to try. Steam can be copied/moved without any problems. I never installed Steam new for example, when I set up my system newly, I always just copied it to my backup hd and moved it back to where it was, worked fine for me.
Generally under Vista, some but not all games have problems when you have them located in program files (for example, some other windows directories can give problems too), so for games at least, good solution is having them on another hd than windows, or in a folder you call games, software or whatever you like, just not in the program files folder, most things want to auto install to.
I don't know exactly where the problems with this folder lie (and lacking the english skills to describe exactly) but it has something do to with write accsess and privilegs and especially older games not designed for vista seem to update, patch and expanse in a way windows doesnt allow, or at least limit.

Uh how do I register Mass Effect? The only games to register are the Dragon Age games, Mass Effect 2, and Warhammer.

It's not possible anymore, just download the BDtS installer and use this key 3FLL-43UU-JTN8-W8EX-25J3, if it won't work try it few hours later.

Old thread I know, but I had it up to search when I had the same trouble.
I was running it and it didn't work, then I started up the game. Didn't play anything, just adjusted video settings, and exited. It works now. So I guess you need to start the game for the installer to be able to find it.
