I dunno about you guys, but David Gaider's book The Calling still hasnt been released in The Netherlands yet, while I'm eagerly awaiting for it.
I found an online bookshop today who has the book for sale with a 5-7 weeks waiting period, but I sure hope it wont be taking that long, cause the game will be out by then which will make me not interrested in buying the book anymore, for a long while at least.

So yea, anyone else who is in the same kind of situation?

Is that the Wizard's First Rule in your sig?

I haven't ordered the Calling yet. If krol146 just got the last copy, I guess I won't be getting it for a while anyway.

I live in the Netherlands too, and I decided to order it over Amazon.com. Expedited shipping. Should be here the 29th.

It still takes a goddamn long time (two weeks, but the even faster shipping method is way too expensive) but at least I can read it before the game comes out.

Amazon.co.uk aren't selling the book yet. The only one's they have available are from other sellers using the amazan marketplace thing. They are either imported from US and Canada or are UK people selling on their used copy that they imported. If it was Amazon selling it then it would now simply say Out Of Stock, but it doesn't.

When does The Calling come out in the UK?

@krol146, it can't be, I looked earlier today and it was exactly the same. At the time it said '5 new and used' which then went to the marketplace. If there were any available direct from amazon then I'd have ordered one at the same time as Stolen Throne this lunchtime. Amazon were not selling it then and if they were and it was out of stock then it would say so.

edit: look on Google Shopping, the only places in the UK selling it are ebay which are either used or imported.

I believe that it's already been released in the UK, I've gotten a dispatch e-mail from amazon.co.uk but it said it wouldn't arrive until the 24th.

I believe its because someone cancelled their order. Ive been waiting to buy it, and when i checked today, to my surprise it was sold out. I then checked a little later, and it said "1 left in stock - order soon" so i quickly did.

Amazon told me they would dispatch on 3rd November after advertising it as available on 15th October which was when i placed my order. Needless to say I was not amused at the suddenly change of release date AFTER my order had been accepted.

Then yesterday dropped it to 28 October and today I got a message saying it had been dispatched already. So according to Amazon its on its way right now.

IF anybody is interested, it says "Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L." in the email.

I'll have to pick up both novels eventually. Not only would backstory be fun to read after I play the game but David seems a nice guy, I have to help out the writers of the world! Posted Image

i ordered one a few days ago off amazon.co.uk (it was one of the marketplace shops though, the book depository i think) then yesterday i got an email saying it was cancelled :(

now it doesn't look like it's easy to get another copy at a non-ridiculous price.

tbh i wasn't sure about reading the calling before i played the game anyway, i saw a few hints that it has info directly relevant to characters in the game, i'm not sure i'd want the 'book surprise' instead of the 'game surprise' if you get what i mean. Anything given away in it that might be considered a spoiler? If so i'll just wait to read it til after my first playthrough, in which case fast shipping isn't necessary :)

The Stolen Throne was more backstory and history and tone of the world/regions. That kinda stuff i liked to read about, i don't think i'd have wanted to read hints about Revan before playing KOTOR though, if you get what i mean...

You could try http://www.english-book-service.com/

They're located in Germany, so it may take a few days to ship it to the UK, but they offer the book for £ 9,15 + EUR 4,50 (approx £ 4) per order for shipping costs, so that's about £5 cheaper than the currently cheapest offer on Amazon marketplace.

I would not worry about reading the book before the game comes out, I found the background the books add will increase the immersion and enjoyment you get from the game when you do eventually play it because you will understand more about what your looking at.

I live in Canada and there were plenty of copies of both novels at my local Chapters just sitting on the shelf.

Anyway, I would not be in a rush to read them unless you are starving for game lore because they are mediocre at best. The only reason they sell well is because of the hype surrounding the game and the notoriety and free built-in audience that gives the books. Were they forced to stand on their own I would certainly not recommend them at all as I can name many series that feature better writing and more engaging stories.

In particular, David Gaider's writing style does not flow well and produces a lot of clunky sentences that redirect my focus from the story to the writing; a well-written book is one where the writing disappears and all that you see is the story unfold, almost as though you are not reading text but watching the events happen.
