Is the 60-letter limit for conversation player choices hardcoded into the toolset or is there a variable somewhere that can increase this number?

you can actually simply ignore it... its only a warning. In practical terms, because the player lines do not wrap onto a second line if they go beyond the edge of the screen, you have about 100, maybe 110 characters before they go off the end of the screen at the lowest resolution. You should not exceed this number.
I understand the character limit was a guideline from the designers to the writers to indicate that "good practice" is to use short, scannable lines for the player, rather than reading a dozen long lines to make just one response.

it might also be a limitation that was there just because they needed to work on consoles. scrollbars and wordwrap can be cumbersome when you don't have a mouse.

oh, never thought of consoles. yes, you might be correct. in any case, think we're okay to go over it... at least to 100.

You can just ignore it! Awesome. Thank you. I would never have thought to do that. I assumed I wouldn't and shouldn't go beyond the edge of the screen or have more than one line, but being limited to such simple sentences was becoming a pain. And thank you for the pictures, my very first thought was to experiment with the line limits and resolutions in exactly the way you did.
