I was once made to watch my spouse's childhood favorite. It was called Yor: The Hunter from the Future. The entire time I was like "what the hell *is* this?" I'm surprised it wasn't used in MST3K.

An acquaintance of mine is a small-time film maker (doesn't stop him from acting like he's God's gift to Hollywood, though). Honestly, I really don't like his films. He tries too hard to do Art House, and every film of his that I've seen is just him congratulating himself on how clever he thinks he is while simultaneously revealing how much he hates women.

does any one hate movies because others love them so much? i mean, like they don't deserve the hype?
for example Shrek 1 was 'ok' but now i just hate Shrek(series) and Twilight.

I love Shrek 1 and have actually watched that darned thing about six times. The way the movie brilliantly skewered typical fairytales and happy-ever-after scenarios while maintaining a sense of adventure and wonder made it for me. In contrast, I felt that Shrek 2 had no real tension and antagonists to drive the plot, and the growing reliance on cheap gags over satire made it seem like the series had lost some of the charm and wit of the original.  I haven't dared look up the sequels ever since. *sigh*

As for Twilight: New Moon... I don't hate it per se because 'everyone else loves it', but simply because it was a bad movie from start to finish. In fact, I thought the first Twilight a decent popcorn flick, if mildly forgettable. Bella and Edward had their cringe-inducing moments, but at least the acting was passable, and the introduction of the three vampiric antagonists set up the story for some real tense scenes. The dim skies and shadows throughout, and the blood and gore of the final furious fight made me feel that I was watching a decent vampire movie that at least had a sense of suspense and mystery. I'd give it a B- overall.

But IMHO Twilight: New Moon just completely dropped the bar. Perhaps it's the fault of the source material, but the film just had 'bizarre' and 'illogical' written all over it. The story meandered all over the place, character development was minimal, dialogue was painfully stilted and cringe-inducing, and Pattinson's acting was pretty much zilch (if you don't believe me, look at the much-touted reunion scene in Rome where he displayed absolutely NO EMOTION for a guy who'd supposedly believed his girlfriend dead. I howled with laughter). The only character I actually felt for was Jacob (played by Taylor Lautner) who was more or less the most likeable of the bunch; I couldn't care less for the others because they gave me absolutely no reason to. Since when did bucketloads of overdramatized teenage angst and a whiny female protagonist ever merit sympathy? Boooo.

*SPOILERS* And don't get me started on the 'fight scene' that the trailers were hyping up as the main conflict/climax - it was over in seconds, and resolved quite ludicrously. Wut? Turns out that there were no real antagonists and no real cause for suspense. There were also quite a few immersion-ruining howlers throughout, the most jarring of them all being the scenic shot (in the middle of a fight) where Edward and Bella RUN IN SLOW-MOTION GIGGLING THROUGH A FOREST. A quick survey of online reviews reveals that entire cinema audiences laughed their heads off at that scene. I couldn't agree more.

Anyway: reason #1 to hate Twilight: New Moon is not because it's popular or whatever, but because it's simply a lousy movie. I wonder if the upcoming sequel Eclipse will sink any lower. *shudder*

(P.S. The only reason why I didn't write down T:NM as my worst movie ever was because I had so much fun watching it. My Twilight-gushy friends who dragged me to a TV lounge to watch the darned thing learned very quickly that I have a habit of scream-laughing like a hyena and pounding the armrests furiously when I'm immensely entertained for all the wrong reasons. I feel a little guilty for ruining their movie experience, so for that I'm inclined to be forgiving.)

im sorry the winner(or is it loser?) is The Incredible Hulk(2008) for me in recent memory.
worst movie everrrrrr. i had to fast forward and then play a bit to just get to the end of it.(i mean i watched a good half of the movie without fast forward but god....it was so bad)

Why? I'm sorry, but alot of these i'm wanting an explanation. I LOVED that movie...more so than Iron Man. It's ok if you don't feel the same...but seriously...why did you hate it so much? Particularly compared to the 03 version of The Hulk.

Another film that did not do anything for me at all was Drag Me to Hell. Now not to be on a Sam Raimi hating trip as I loved Army of Darkness, liked the Gift, Darkman and Evil Dead. It just seemed to me that Drag Me to Hell was trying to hard. The only scene I liked in that movie was the sayonce (damnit, spelling, never thought I'd need to write out that word) scene.

A lot of people disagree, but I felt like Shrek 3 was actually a return to form, it doesn't try to be an adventure romance like I felt the second one tried to be, its main focus is on the humor, which is where the Shrek series should stay. Haven't seen the fourth yet, but I probably will eventually.

What i meant was hating Twilight(/shrek) more-so because of it being popular/over-hyped ontop of being a medeore to bad movie. like i hate The Incredible Hulk movie, as i said before but i hate the Twilight/shrek series more because of the hype/popularity.

(oh and as for your friends that dragged you to watch it, that use to happen to me but they know i'll ruin the 'atmosphere' or i'll just twirl around in the chair distractingly. Thats why we must pick a movie we all enjoy. well i had my revenge with the ring(******) movie.. taking away all there pillows right at the end... so they couldn't shield their faces from the tv. hahahahaha)

ok i havent seen the 03 version so i cant compare.
Talking just about the 08 version, the thing that urked me was mainly the characters. The villian wasn't believable. his motivation, the acutal 'action sequences' we're horid. the chemistry between liv(name?) and Bruce weren't done very well. The supportive actors made It seemed like a B-grade movie.
Sorry i can't get into specifics, it was awhile ago since i've watched it but i remember hating it alot.
The only omg moment was right at the end with tony stark like "yes, there is hope. the next movie could be good"

Its ok, my friend loved that movie. so i see where your comming from- somewhat. I think the iron man movie was entertaining- more so than T.I.Hulk. Ironman 2 wasn't that great.

Was kind of ridiculous that I predicted that event right when she picked up the envelope.  I was like "I bet its the coin" when in reality it being the coin made no sense, but because of the way that film was going I couldn't let myself not predict htat <_<

I just saw "where the wild things are", and it was pretty terrible. It was supposed to be a kids movie, but it had the most unsettling atmosphere I'd seen since "the shining". It had a hard time sitting through this.

I can't stand the Spider Man movies either, I found the first two unbearably preachy.

If you didn't want preachy why would you go anywhere near anythign Spiderman related? The whole theme of the character's existence is preachy responsibility.

Spiderman 2 was sorta good.

First one like power-rangers fighting, Green Goblin looked silly.

I forgot that most of Batman movies suck, (especially the Catwoman) ! but the last two films are truly excellent

I liked Batman Begins more that The Dark Knight (which I thought was a good movie but highly overrated) among the newer ones.

I like Batman Returns the best though.

You are officially disqualified from critiquing any more movies. Way to completely miss the point of the movie.

I am just saying that personally, I found watching this movie to be an unpleasant experience.  What was the point of the movie?

I loved Conan the Destroyer. Brainless fun, and the part where he fights the wizard/lizardman dude is laugh-out loud material. Loved the character concepts as well.

See, that was one of my problems with Conan the Destroyer. :P I have expectations for Conan tales. I thought "Barbarian" did a passable job of capturing the feel of REH's stories. Destroyer went a bit too far until it felt like a caricature. I kept thinking "this isn't Conan..." while watching it. Putting all that aside it's at best a bad action-adventure movie. Perhaps not Masters of the Universe bad... ~Shudders~ ...but bad nonetheless.

It has Grace Jones.

Get out. Meet the Spartans is amazing. Certainly far from the worst film ever made.

Yor the Hunter wasn't THAT bad... I saw this years ago when I was still in high school. My parents used to record any piece of crap they could find on cable to build up their video collection, although in their defense, I think they intentionally recorded Yor because they knew I would watch it. It was one of those 'cable' movies that they would play all the time for filler space on like cinemax or showtime. My buddy and I used to watch it and rip on it all the time.

But back to the topic on hand. Worst movie? Well, it's hard to say, I would say it's for me it's a toss up between Highlander 2, and Star Trek V. Both movies are horrid, and for the kind of budget they spent on them, the respective creators should be ashamed of themselves. Oh, wait, Shatner directed V... all is forgiven then, he doesn't know any better.
