Every forum gets its own atmosphere from the foundation laid down by its initial posters. Back in the old forums, someone felt the best way to ensure their favorite character from ME1 made it into the sequel was to create a support thread to demonstrate just how popular the character is. Then others thought if one character had a support thread, there own favorite character deserved a support thread, too.Group Theory wrote...
I don't even know why there are these "Character support threads." The Dragon Age board doesn't have any, and when I first visited the Mass Effect board the first thing I thought was "What the **** is up with this?"
This mentality carried over to the new forums. Each thread developed its own collection of posters who then started to feel comfortable talking with each other such that the threat of closing the thread makes them distinctly uncomfortable. Each character thread really is its own little subforum, only without the ability to create subtopics of the main topic of the thread.

I mean, sure, our threads clogging up that hell-hole of trolls and idiocy called the Campaign section was fine.
But this is one of the more serious and useful sections, I'd hate to cause it any harm.

Just on the front page of the Dragon Age spoilers forum, and there are a few others I think I missed:
Alistair, post-coronation... and/or Alistair gush thread (Origins/Awakening Spoilers)
What's the (Romantic) Appeal of Zevran?
DAO and Awakening: Morrigan Discussion and Research Thread
These have been around for months, are always on the front page, and somehow the forum survives.

Yet look again at what forum they are in!!! Notice anything?? WHY!!! they are in the Story forum, not the build and strategy forums!! Imagine that, game characters being discussed in the story forum, builds and player characters being discussed in the build and strategy forum!!!
There are so many "I LUV XXXX" here they clog up a decent forum dedicated to builds and make dicsussion on builds or playstyle problematic at best.

I agree with you, I thought they were fine where they were before. I really don't think the spoiler discussion forum is "better" nowadays for lack of support threads. A character sub-forum wouldn't be the end of the world, but I don't think the threads should be targetted as a "problem" that needs to be fixed. Moderation, both on the part of Bioware, and individual forumgoers, would prevent any issues.
To be fair, though, the Characters, classes and Builds forum description does currently seem to indicate that this is where the character support threads belong:
Share your stories, artwork, music, web sites or other creative works inspired by Mass Effect 1 & 2. Discuss your favorite characters from the Mass Effect games.

I would support a subforum dedicated to any and all QQ posts.
Maybe someone should make one.

Yup, and the mods edited it to say just that instead of saying what it used to say indicating it was for Shepard character discussion and builds. Go look at the Dragon Age forum on characters and read description....
ah heck, here is from top of forum.........
Dragon Age: Origins
Characters, classes and Builds (Spoilers Allowed)
Compare notes with other Dragon Age: Origins
fans about your class builds and playstyles. WARNING: Topics may reveal
spoiler information. Game registration is required to post in this

I just don't think strategy and builds goes well with Fan appreciation threads.

Separate section for fan fiction and appreciation.
Clogging up the tactics & builds discussions is completely illogical and makes it difficult to find anything - especially when the search facility in these forums is so bad.

However, the thread wouldn't be necessary if it had its own subforum.
But if there's no subforum because of the thread isn't necessary, then this thread would exist.
And then with the thread existing, I'd say this thread should be in its own subforum.
Yet, the thread wouldn't be necessary if I didn't have to say that...
And since there's no subforum where I could not have to say that, then this thread would exist...

They really do need their own forum, just so the quantity of them doesn't bother people who don't care about them at all as long as they don't have to wade through all the crap.
Bother? You guys are the ones waving all the insults at us, i sure am not "bothering" any of your discussions.

Actually you are making discussion of anything not related to the love and affection of certain NPC's almost impossible. The build forum used to have good information about how to play the classes in different ways and what might be interesting to try. Now all you see is a MASS of "I SUPPORT" threads and yes that does bother the people who used to post here and are tying to look for information.
Are you doing it out of meanness--NO, but just from the sheer volume you and everyone else that was forcably moved here are being a bother to those of us who posted here pre-move. Sorry you don't like it but it is fact. It is sort of like a neighbor with a really big stereo system, blasting it at top volume. The music may not be bad in itself, but the amount is an issue.

Having discussion about how to play mass effect 2 is fine, but for us we bought the game for our sheer enjoyment and for the story, not "strategy". If you have a problem with it, complain to the mods, and don't freakin troll us like a bunch of whiny 5 year olds.
