What I would change is:
1) More options with character creator (body build, more hair and facial hair styles)
1a) The bigger the build of character ultimately the slower but more powerful they are and the smaller the build the quicker but less powerful they are ie a big huge character with a 50 dex will be slower ultimately than a smaller character with the same dex rating and vice versa for strength
2) More realistic combat moves. Just like how the Madden guys attach sensors to real football players do the same with a weapons expert. Sick of slash, stab, slash, slash, slash, stab and also it would make the character's moves more smooth and fluid. Very tedius in DAO. Also switch up what moves a character uses depending on situation like if surrounded have the character slash then front kick an enemy away and switch to the next closest and attack them.
3) Instead of having special moves, make a character's rating effect how he/she handles and uses their weapons. The higher the character's rating the more efficiently they use weapons (to block, to attack, and to completely incapacitate foes). ie a level 25 warrior could slash, cut, and decapitate or cut off limbs of a number of foes, were as a level five might have a harder time fighting one or two enemies.
4) Make the game world more open like in GTA or Saints row, rather than how it is now.
5) More blood and gore.
6) Individualize special armor and weapons (ie felons coat, topsider or keening blade) also maybe a create/design your own weapons and armor.
7) Meaner looking armor, helmets, and robes. Heavy chainmail looks like a dress or a Ball type armor, mages robes and head dress makes them look like bad carnies, and some helmets look like just plain dumb.
8) Significant consequences for choices you make, like a party member is killed or you have to choose between killing a party member or watching you love die, something like that.
9) Have decisions throughout the game effect how people react to you. ie if you show no mercy to your enemies then people are scared and are more easy to intimidate.
10) Have your character's attributes effect their fighting technique, ie higher dex the character is more a slasher and very quick with their weapon strikes, where as a higher strength character is more of a hacker and stabber with slower but more powerful thrusts.
11) Be able to throw your axe, sword, or dagger at an enemy and impale them.
12) Keep ruin creation. I like building up my armor and weapons, just make all ruins available for sale
13) Although I really liked the dialogue for this type of rpg (i'm not a dungeons & dragons kind of guy) I feel it could of been a tad better, not much, but just a tad.
14) If someone responds to you in a way or doesn't give you the answer you want have the option to kill them and maybe have it affect you in another part of the game.
15) I know it sounds dumb but make the game longer. I think more main missions were needed (not more side missions)
16) In camp storage for weapons and such.
17) If carrying a shield actually use it to block arrows and strikes and use it as a weapon without having to use a special move.
18) This is more of a question but how does a warrior with a shield and sword have a higher damage rating than a dual weapon warrior carrying two long swords even though they have the same attributes?
19) If your gonna make a weapon 150 gold or make me defeat a high dragon to get it then make it a billy bad ass, must have, i can take on a whole legion type weapon, basically make it worth it. Vershaille and roses thorn are not those weapons.
20) Please make there be a difference in combat moves between a dual wield rogue and a dual wield warrior.
21) Be able to impale enemies, cut off limbs and heads, and cut enemies in half (only two handed weapons).
22) Be able to sprint, jump, and climb
23) Better graphics such as hair, don't make it look like a Ken doll. If windy make it move, if raining make the character wet, etc.
24) Why do cities like Denerim, Redcliffe, and Orzammar look like their pop. is 50 or less? Make a city look like a city. I was fine with some small towns like lothering looking less populated. But Denerim is the capital, C'mon!
Well that is all I have. I know I am a little out of my element with this genre of RPG. But, DAO is probably one of the best and most addictive games I have ever played. I've played World of Warcraft and Fable and thought both were dumb and not worth my while. I love DAO and can't wait for the 2nd version just hope it isn't a let down like I've heard Mass Effect 2 was.
