That's still illegal. Just like an amazing number of things nearly everyone does with their games (eg, modding, in most cases).

I do not think so. Afaik cracking is not illegal as long as you don´t share the crack.

According to the EULA, even cheating is illegal, iirc.

Ubisoft have put a DRM on the new Splinter Cell game. You have to be connected to the net at all times to play it, even the single player storyline of the game. And their servers are ropey at best and have been known to be down at random times and for long periods.

It realy put me off buying the game.

Ya all future Ubi-soft PC games are gonna be like this.  Even if it's a pure single player game you must be connected online at all times.

Then I wont be buying Ubisoft games anymore.

Same here.. At least so long as I can only get this BS choppy net.. If my ISP finds a way around their incompitance, I might consider it, but its doubtful. I will more than likely just pass them up entirely.

EULA is a synonym for "bullsh!t where I click yes and stop caring for it right then."

Even pirated games have an EULA stating you may not pirate them, soooo......................

Not exactly a bastion of playing by the rules. I was just pointing out that the EULA is an incredibly restrictive document, and that, technically, you are granted incredibly limited access to the software you have purchased.

The only EULA I've ever read was the three WoW ones.

I gave up the TOR beta tester signup agreement around the 1/3.

From ME2's EULA (I happen to have the disk in the drive):

"By installing or using the Software, you agree to the terms of this License and agree to be bound by it."

"12. Injunctive Relief. You agree that a breach of this License will cause irreparable injury to EA for which monetary damages would not be an adequate remedy and EA shall be entitled to seek equitable relief in addition to any remedies it may have hereunder or at law without a bond, other security or proof of damages."

"13. Governing Law. If you reside in a Member State of the European Union: (i) the laws of England, excluding its conflicts-of-law rules, govern this License and your use of the Application; and (ii) you expressly agree that exclusive jurisdiction for any claim or action arising out of or relating to this License and/or your use of the Application shall be the Courts of England, and you expressly consent to the exercise of personal jurisdiction of such courts. If you reside elsewhere: (i) the laws of the State of California, excluding its conflicts-of-law rules, govern this License and/or your use of the Application; and (ii) you expressly agree that exclusive jurisdiction for any claim or action arising out of or relating to this License and/or your use of the Application shall be the federal or state courts that govern San Mateo County, California, and you expressly consent to the exercise of personal jurisdiction of such courts. Please note that your conduct may also be subject to other local, state, national, and international laws. The parties agree that the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (Vienna, 1980) shall not apply to this License or to any dispute or transaction arising out of this License."

I'd like to also point out that making you sign a non-binding document before you're allowed to install it would lack any sort of sense.

It's a legally-binding contract.

By reading this post you agree that Tirigon is right and your master forever and ever. You are forced to obey his every wish. Failing to do so does irreparable damage to Tirigon and will be severely punished.

Sure, they got battle.net, no surprise there.

This. And that´s the irony because for SC2 you have to have a Battle.net account (or make one), so you also have to have an internet connection. Then you can play single player, though if you want to play a friend, no matter if he is sitting directly next to you, you again have to use the battle.net. That´s their DRM.

Edit: i would like to add that any discussion about an-piracy methods are kinda useless, the industrie has no real proof, evidence of anything like that how "bad" it is for them, only made up numbers, and thus i think this Total PCGaming article goes very well with this thread:

http://worldofstuart...y/savethepc.htm

It was an official article and written by a literally legend when it comes to game journalism. Dunno if it´s not "happy" enough for this forum or too "political".

Yea, see, thing is, there's nothing forcing me to read your post. On the other hand, you MUST agree with the EULA (you sign it the instant you click "I agree") to install a piece of software. If you don't agree to the terms of the contract, you don't sign and you don't get the software.

Unlike other DRM however Battle.net works.

I play WC2 for almost 2 years now and the servers have only twice be down yet, and even then it was
- only for very short
- you could still play singleplayer
- only for europe; you could still play online on other servers.

But I stated clearly that reading (or quoting, for that matter, because that implies you read it) my post IS the act of agreeing.

Of course you aren´t forced to read my post, but you did, and so you´re my slave now.
