I have ME2 on an AW M11x with no internal optical drive. It is very inconvenient to have to lug around an external drive and the ME2 disc with me. Is there any way to play the game without the disc without using a third party crack? I am a legal registered game owner, and do not wish to break the EULA or prevent future updates.
Play with no disc legitimately?

Get the digital copy from EA.

Download the EA installer. Activate your copy with the retail CD key and download/install the digital version of Mass Effect 2. FYI, you need an open internet connection on the first start to validate your copy.

Doesn't the process also required uninstalling the hard copy version before this?

Get steam.

Wrong. That's an extra cost above and beyond the hard copy investment. I am happy not to have to wait on a too-long download at the mid-width almost broadband that is my provider's budget level, and is affordable for me. I prefer the hard copy, so I don't miss not having digital copies.

Yeah, you're right, he already has the game but to avoid problems like that he should get steam and buy digital games.

The game was given as a gift, so I have the hard copy. I don't want to have to buy another version just to be able to play without a disc. Any other options?

Where, exactly, in there, did Rec refer to any pause to make any payment to anyone? I don't see it.Recnamoken wrote...

EA Download Manager is free. Just enter your product key and you get to download it legally. Uninstall the game first but keep your saves. This works for their newest games, like Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2.

While I don't advocate game piracy, Mass Effect 2 uses a simple no-DVD check and doesn't have any DRM like SecuROM included. A cracked version of the game isn't legal, but it's safe, seeing as the only thing that's been changed is whether the game looks for the disc on startup.
