Second question: Is there away that I can use Medi Gel or anything when I am about to die (I have died many times)?? It seems to me that I can only use Medi Gel when my squad members are down, what about me before I go down (as in ME1). Thank you for any positive feedbacks on either of my questions/topics.

You can get upgrades for your Medi-Gel so that it can restore your health and shields to full as well, which will work even if your squadmates aren't down.

Why waste medi-gel when your health and armor regenerate quickly?

For when you're out of cover and can't get to safety quickly enough, it's a life saver.

Technically, the automatically regenerating health is supposed to be medigel applications by your hardsuit. As for active use of medigel, no, you can't use it to instantly heal yourself. The closest to controlled healing you can get are the Fortification/Barrier/Shield Boost loyalty powers.

In the equipment screen you could have the OPS Survival items (in-game on button number 6) which restores your shields and I believe health instantly to max. They are used when other squad members are down and you are left alone and under heavy fire, or when being revived next to a turret or heavy enemy in order to allow you to escape. Medigel is only for reviving yourself or others when shot down.
However, sometimes the option to hit 7 for use of medigel when down does not appear even though I have medigels. But it worked anyways. Hmm..

This will only work with the appropriate medigel upgrades.
