I was on virmire and talked to liara when I ran past her and she said "I don't know which is worse, the Geth or all this sand in my...nevermind"

HAHAHA

it is curious indeed. Maybe Bioware said they were monogendered so they could slide a F/F relationship in the game.

Well, where did you think Asari babies come from?

Monogendered as in "all one gender" as in "all-female" they don't reproduce by budding.

They reproduce through Parthenogenesis. AKA asexual reproduction. When they meld minds with another person, the genetics from their partner and absorbed and that's when the asexual process begins. However as explained by Liara, if melded with another Asari, no extra genes are gained.

I didn't think about it that way for some reason, especially sense Bioware always said "Thier not females!!"

haha I know they didn't reproduce by budding I was just sharing that line as proof that they are female sense Bioware likes to say the aren't.

Humans and other races see them as female but as Liara said, the asari don't have any concept of gender.

Well, I'm sure Shepard could figure something out, but yeah without a hole the asari babies would have no means of escape.

Except when they all refer to themselves as "female" "mothers" "daughters" and "sisters" and don't actually have words for "father."  That's Liara, Benezia, numerous random Asari all over the galaxy, every Asari in Eclipse, and Aria.  In fact, the only Asari who ever spewed that garbage about being "monogendered" and "not actually female" is Liara, the same one who stalks you and tries to sleep with you every chance she gets.  Oh, and some BioWare flunkies who chose words to avoid fake controversy instead of using them as they are commonly understood in the English language or biology.

I wish, I could get a really crappy on screen shot of it but seriously if you play ME1 again on Virmire talk to Liara after you hear the Com check, she says it then. I'm playing as FemShep right now though so I don't know if that has an effect.

Well they don't account for various languages in the game either. In "galactic common" or whatever they all speak those words exist, but most likely they don't in the Asari language/s.

^ In BDTS they say everyone has translators. I'm pretty sure Asari are able to speak human languages because the so closely resemble them.

Having an "orifice" doesn't preclude the Asari from being mon-gendered as a species. How else are they supposed to get their young out of them? Budding like a plant?

Heck, I'm not even sure if Asari give live birth or if they lay eggs.

Also, I want to point something out to people in general when regarding language:

It's highly unlikely that all the aliens speak english, even the Asari. Even if they did, they would instead be translating words from their own native language to English. Would it make sense to refer to their offspring as "sons" in English? Perhaps the Asari word is gender neutral, but when conversing with humans they use human terms in order to make themselves clear within the confines of the English language?

Based on what Liara said in that quote it sounds like live birth, and I think Asari would be able to speak english because of how human they are. Every other race? probably not, but everyone does have translators on them.

Only because they're all the same one, they've never had to deal with stuff like traditional gender roles and the like. It's simply not an issue for them, not somethign that even really occurs to them, but it doesn't make them any less female.

How do we know they speak english? Do you realize how many languages there are, just on earth?

Agreed, and what is said in ME2 at the bachelor party I don't think matters either i.e. "what if they look like our idea of a female". Just thought I stop that before it was brought up

I'm not saying they do I'm saying that it's possible given that they look very human and that their mouths are human as well.

I assume some of them speak English or "human-common" (I assume there is one, it's pretty much English currently.) since you'd need translators to work on updating and upgrading the translation modules, as well as for times when people want a "smarter" translation.

Also, I assume plenty of Turians speak the common Asari language, and so on and so forth...
