I'm having an issue with tree appearance in a particular area., which I believe is to do with LOD. tre_f_mossyan doesnt' seem to work very well at all, giving these horrible "lines" in blank space at a distance. Now, I don't ever recall seeing this in the main campaign, so I'm assuming it didn't exist, or there is a workaround.

I'll demonstrate what I mean from a screenshot taken within the area editor:

You should notice the horizontal lines in the circled area.  Note that the lines don't appear when you're close to the tree, hence why I'm saying it appears to be an LOD issue. When you're closer, there's actually a tree there... mostly to the left of those lines - yes, those lines almost exist to the "right" of the tree as you look at it. And they do appear within the game as well as in the area editor. Of course, they don't appear in the level editor - I'm wondering if it's an issue with the exporting of trees?

If anyone has encountered this issue and has a way around it, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.  It might not be entirely noticeable, but if you do happen to see it, it looks pretty horrible.  Unless it's fixable, the only option I think I've got is to get rid of the trees and replace them with another tree type. I'd really prefer not to have to spend time doing that if possible.

have you checked it in-game? the toolset takes many ugly shortcuts to deliver a decent framerate while editing that dont occur in-game. these shortcuts include transparency differences and not displaying normal maps. thats kinda thing to allow you to view lots of stuff in the toolset.

This has happened to me in the past and its just an error during the post process. When the toolset is posting the trees to local, you literally cannot touch your computer at any point while its taking the billboard pictures (when its displaying the trees and rotating them) or you will interrupt the process and get bad trees or corruption.

Sometimes even if the process seems to complete successfully, it wont and it'll give you those corrupted textures at a distance. The Tree posting process is just very fragile.

To fix it, just delete the Trees folder from your Toolsetexport/ and Post Trees to Local with nothing else but the toolset running, and don't touch your computer until the entire thing is done. That fixed it for me.

Thanks both for the tips. I had actually checked in-game, mike (I did mention this, but it was easy to miss in my post), but I'll keep in mind that the toolset is a bad representation of what things look like in-game. That is definitely handy to know.

And thank you Kilrogg_ for that advice re posting trees. I'll have to make sure I do it as an exclusive activity. So much for multi-tasking!
