ShepardWrex, do youy know what witty means? Because thats what Ecael is doing.

There are latent criticisms in Ecael's posts, no matter how sarcastic they may be.

And I can make counterarguments to them better than 99.9% of the people on these boards, who don't even know how to complain correctly.

Correct on all counts, I must admit. ShepardWrex is capable of outarguing me sometimes.

I look at it this way, both games have flaws, both games have done amazing things and both games have things that make me want to rip my hair out.

Thus there is no point on arguining. Both games are amazing.

Well personally I like both ME1 and ME2. They are similar yet different so you dont just have a copy of the first game. Now Im not an expert on what a RPG should be, but I enjoy the combat, the storyline, the interaction with characters. Now I like alot of games and yes I like the fast paced 3 day long FPS as long as it has good gameplay, great graphics, and a good storyline. Now I really am saying I liked the way they were before multiplayer came out and ruined them for me. I HATE MULTIPLYER. It is ignorant, simple no storyline and you have to interact with real people. I like to play my games alone.I guess my version of a good RPG, now this is MY VERSION. 70% combat, 30 % interaction. Give or take. Now remember everbody likes diffferent things, um games for example as we are talking about here. There is never going to be a game thatt everyone likes. What is important to remember is that whatever your expectations about ME2 were going to be you were either going too like it or hate it, or just find it boring. It all depends on the person. Its all opinion, you cant argue over peoples likes and dislikes.:)

One more thing . STOP shooting specific people down by insulting them or saying your better than them at anything.Dont have such an ego and you cant assume that you can do more of something better than anyone. Especially because none of us knows each other. Another attemp to stop an argument in its place I hope it works.:)

Both games have flaws? Then they're both bad.

Square Enix set the bar for flawless RPGs with Final Fantasy. A tried and tested system that always works.

And Final Fantasy showed that not everyone has to have a gun in order to fight stuff.

give me a break haha no such as thing as Perfect nor Flawless.  tried and tested is so un-innovative. Just my opinion, glad you think FF is better.  Image IPB  oh you can not use your gun in ME, biotics and engineers have powers.  In DAO they dont use guns either.  Image IPB

That kind of explains Escael's posting today.

You mean "spells"? Like the ones Final Fantasy had well before BioWare even came into existence?

Like Ultima that came out before FF "came into existence" in 1980 that uses "spells" and was picked up and published again with the help of EA in 1998 for DOS format.  haha what does that have anything to do with what's better or not.  I think guns are good to use anyways.

I see where you are coming from but you seem far too serious (albeit too willing to pick a fight) for me to continue a conversation

Huh? You realize that the first Final Fantasy relied heavily on western tabletop and pc rpgs for its concepts right?

Just because something has flaws doesn't make it bad on whole.  You'd be hard pressed to find games with no flaws at all.

And no, Final Fantasy is not flawless.

I wouldn't mind seeing turned based combat in top view isometric. Thus, there would be a bit of tactic is a game that has absolutly none besides "cover/shot/cover". I wouldn't mind controlling a small squad of betwwen 4 and 6 characters (pc included) in a fight.

I don't fear being labeled as an rpg elitist. Every one has his/her taste concerning games. I'd rather have calm and difficult combat that need some thinking to be solved than a quick fight that requires me to dedicate both hands and can't be really paused. I don't mind having non voiced dialogues so that there is a large span of possible answers. All in all, if it's about the story and character interaction, the all voiced dialogue games are far worse than older games because you can't spend a lot of time and money into all the potential dialogues.

I'm an old school gamer that would rather read an immersive sci fi book than watching a movie. But it seems to me now that the current gamer generation needs to have some visual and auditive effects to feel immersed. Too bad for me.

Totally respectable where your coming from.  I dont mind the rpg elitist I just dont like when "they" (not you) put down others who are not.  Im about 50/50 with something fast paced and something more tactic and slower paced depending on what im in a mood for.  What you described reminded me a lot of Fallout Tactics and the old Commando game.  I could definitely see it applied in the MAss Effect universe but the road has already been taken on the TPS/RPG hybrid if you will.  Maybe a spinoff?  I, however, really enjoy the current "type" that it is now.

I think the type of games you like will be fewer in comparision but the gaming community is still young overall (under 40) when hey mature maybe they will settle for some slower paced tactic games.  I think you just need to look a bit harder as those gems are kinda like a good indie movie amongst crappy indie movies and mainstream movies combined.

Anyone who thinks the true RPG experience is, for example, sorting through piles of crap to see if you can upgrade 'blahblah V' to 'blahblah VI' for each of half a dozen items for half a dozen characters to get slightly better numbers is completely exasperating. Is that a deep and interesting RPG experience? Really?

Or having the combat feel like crap in the early game because the 'elite' commander Shepard hasn't maxed a weapon accuracy skill yet? Is that really adding to your enjoyment of the game? Really?

No. Just no.

Have to say though, it does give you a sense of progress, didn't feel that in ME2.(imo)

Honestly, the gear progression just didn't really "fit".

In a standard RPG setting you usually start out modest: you always start out wet behind the ears with little experience in the world. Starting out with a set of leathers and finally happening upon a set of awesome platemail has always been an enjoyable sense of achievement in RPGs.

But with ME's theme it just never really fit. If you started out as someone completely different, as someone who has rarely ever used a gun and had not seen combat, the gear curve becomes understandable and even immersive.

In Mass Effect, you're not that kind of person. You start out highly ranked and sought after, and when you finally become a Spectre you're given even more inside info. In this sense I find what ME2 is attempting to do much more fitting: unlock variety as opposed to straight upgrades, acquiring more choices and not better stats. These were things I'd like to see emphasized on in ME3, moreso since Shepard is supposed to be a complete badass at this point.
