I'm using 3.0 Quad core on my machine and the processor runs at a full load the entrie time. My CPU temp slowly climbs until it hits 70. Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone been able to fix it?
Is there any way to get my CPU not to run at 100%

Not here, got an nVidia 8800GT on Win7 x64.

I am running Ati tray tools. Perhaps that is the problem with the load on my cores?

I'm running on Win 7 64 bit as well. I'm using a 9500 GT for graphics, but it doesn't matter what settings I use, low or high my processor spikes back and forth between 85 and 100 percent. From what I've read, this happens for a lot of people no matter what they are running it on. I just don't understand. A much lower processor can run this game on minimum settings, but on my processor even at min settings it still uses 80 to 100%. It wouldn't bother me if the full load wasn't building up my core temp, but my computer rapidly approaches it's max after about an hour.

I checked my system log and during 3 hours of non stop playing none of my four cores hits 100% load and I'm overclocked. Check my specs below, hope this helps.
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition @ 3.6GHz
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4 Motherboard (BIOS F6)
4GB G.SKILL (F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI) DDR2-1100
Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 X2 2GB
Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality FPS
Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit

You could try changing your power settings (I know Vista and 7 can do this, not sure about XP). If you change it from High Performance to Balanced or Power saver it can clock down your CPU usage.

forcibly underclock your cpu as a workaround. I have to do this normally anyway for my laptop as it overheats otherwise (don't trust an OEM if they say it has a fast cpu and gpu etc...the cooling capabilities will be the limiting factor in all likelihood). I have to run my 2.2 GHz pentium dual core at only 80%, and it still hits 90 degrees celsius.

I am having similar problems. Dragon Age crashes on me constantly. It is to the point where I can no longer enjoyable play the game (Crashing every 15-20 minutes on a bad day is rather frustrating). I had supposed this "100% CPU usage" problem is the cause of it.
Is there any official word on this issue?

ATI Tray Tools has an Dynamic Link Library that injects itself into everything. From Firefox to Dragon age-- it's called raphook.dll-- now normally it's the cause of various crashes not 100% CPU but it's worth a shot to uninstall temporarily and reinstall.
There is a poster above that mentioning using an nvidia card though which negates the fix.
I'll continue to review and see if I can come up with something.

There are some things to try. I've read some people say that running in a window fixed their problem. You could also use processor affinity for those with multiple cores and force the game to run on only one core. Will likely still max that core out, but it would still tax the cpu less. As a final resort you can try this program:
http://www.bitsum.com/prolasso.php
It's a little complex but it monitors processor usage along with threads, cores, priority, etc. and it can dynamically throttle.

Anyone in this thread willing to underclock their card. I want to see if helps or no.
To do it, you'll need Rivatuner for nvidia cards. I believe ATI has one included in the Catalyst drivers if memory serves.

Hmm, I don't think that would cause it if you have adaquit cooling. I think most people who's CPU is pegged just expierence studders and such, not full blown crashes.DesertHawk wrote...

Or you can get a copy of EVGA Presision, it works with all nvidia cards, and a lot more simple if you just want to under/overclock.ChandlerL wrote...

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the graphics card from what I've experienced. It just seems that something in the game is ramping up the CPU usage. I use a Nividia card, but even fiddling with settings in Precision didn't help.
I havn't experienced any crashing, stuttering, or slow down. I'm just worried about temperature, as my processor's max temp is listed as 71C and at full load my processor steadily climbs from 40-70 in about an hour or so.

I switched to power saving mode on Windows 7 and turned my CPU speeds down to 95%. It seems to have fixed the problem. I turned everything back to full in the game options and it seems to have been fixed. My cores don't go over 80% and my core temp has been a stable 35. Just thought I'd toss this out there so others might be able to get a fix out of it.
