I have normally used male characters in games since most games that is what you get. Armor never seemed to look right on female characters However, since I have discovered the cool Mods for females, I dont care about armor as much.

It's kind of creepy flirting with men... I mean, I don't have anything against homosexuals but I feel weird hahaha, I prefer rolling a lesbian that flirts with men for the achievement.

I always play female, even after playing through it two times and in deciding to make another i end up with a female! it's like an addiction, addiction to females, amg.

call me gay if you wish, but females look one hell of a lot better than guys. in game ofc.

err...

i romanced alistair i swear!

I usually play as a male despite being female in real life. Hence the avatar. Though I loved being able to romance Zev no matter my char's gender.

I play as male characters most often, as it lets me get into perspective much easier. I have played a female dwarf, but she was totally a lesbian. And acted like a guy.

In games with a Gender Choice, I usually make 1 of each.

I play male because I am male and can almost put myself in their spot which makes a more "real" play experience if that makes sense... wow that's nerdy lol

I play female for a different perspective I guess.

I don't feel "weird" playing a female char as a male (except when romancing male npc's for achievments :P) . But I do prefer playing male characters.

I fighting female just doesn't look good. I'm sry but I'm to rational... I can accept a bard or an assassin female maybe, but a warrior... nay.

Probably this should be the look of Sophia Dryden IRL

Females = Mages and rogues.

I play both, mostly to get the achievements for having sex with the male companions because I didn't want to make a gay character. But I did make my girlfriend as a character once, and she definitely didn't have sex with any of them :).

A friend of mine find most of the woman bodybuilders extremely hot >_>! I can't understand him... he says that this kind of extreme bodybuilder not, but I think he also likes them >_<

Out of my eight playthroughs in Dragon Age thus far (though only four are actually completed), I've had six females and two males. I've found I usually end up playing males in other games and in reality I think the only reason I've played more females in DA:O is because I prefer Alistair's romance and wanted to flirt with Gorim and Cullen in the origins. :)

As for the whole "I'd rather see look at a hot piece of opposite-sex for 40 hours", I find I would actually prefer looking at a good-looking woman than a good-looking man the entire game. I don't know why though, considering I'm not gay. Probably because, like Tor_pedo said, women look better in games than men. ;D

I personally don't really care what gender I play as. I'll play as either. Yes, I'll even play as a female romancing a male NPC -- my first and so far only complete playthrough was as a female elf mage, romancing Alistair. I cannot make myself play as a male character romancing a male NPC, however -- I'm just not built that way.

My one character is a female mage. I'm a transsexual, so growing up I always played games as females to get out my frustrations. I find that I still most often play as females.... playing as a guy usually makes me feel too 'big and dumb' for my tastes.

I don't visit these forums much, but there's my opinion ;)

*edited because my paragraphing was all double-spaced and looked retarded

I am female and I play as a female character. I'm so used to playing games that have an only male main characters that when I get a choice to play as a female character, I take it without hesitation. At least with DA:O I don't suffer for my decision since they made the genders on equal ground.
I'm still seriously debating whether or not I really want to play as a male in DA:O, other then the Morrigan acchievement, which I don't care to do, just like the Leilana one, which I also avoided like a plague. I see no point in switching character at least for me for now.

Straight and happily married male IRL.

But I'll RP characters from either gender and I'll always RP them straight. At least for 'relationship' purposes, if I RP a spy, the PC may seduce either gender if it's easier to do that than kill a bunch of someones, for instance. But still, their preferences are straight.

I generally make a character concept in my head, and from there I'll define race and gender from that concept. It's not so much, "Oh I want to RP a female." As, "I'd like to RP something like (character name)." And then I'll go about figuring out how to make it in the concept of the game I'm playing.

Female, playing as female. But I think my next character will be male, just because I'm interested in the storylines I haven't seen. Not sure I could stomach romancing Morrigan, though.

And for the "woman can't be warriors" set: it's fantasy. In the real middle ages, women were oppressed in general, so no, there weren't many women warriors (Boudicca and the like notwithstanding). There also were no mages or darkspawn. But for the record, there have been some fairly good swordswomen throughout the ages, and no, they didn't look like bodybuilders, they just looked like athletic women. La Maupin could have been an inspiration for Liliana:

I played both. Was interested to see the difference in the city elf and noble dwarf origins. Not to mention how different NPCs treat you differently

I am male but I always play in RPG with female characters... More nice and pretty to see than male pcs... Romances? With other women when possible... If this is not possible, just no romances...

I dont really get the "What kind of ass would you rather look at throughout the game' comments.

Is that all you look at whilst you play the game? Because I'm usually looking ahead of my character.

I play male characters only, when I have a choice. Just because I like to really immerse myself into my character, and try to identify with him and his feelings, and I don't ever quite feel that I can authentically do that when I'm controlling a female character. It's entirely a personal, subjective thing, and I don't see anything wrong with other people playing characters of whichever gender(s) they enjoy.

Not really. Its just annoying people think that you can only look at your main character's ass.

I mean, whats wrong with Leliana's?
