I play male because I am male and can almost put myself in their spot which makes a more "real" play experience if that makes sense... wow that's nerdy lol
I play female for a different perspective I guess.
I don't feel "weird" playing a female char as a male (except when romancing male npc's for achievments

Probably this should be the look of Sophia Dryden IRL

Females = Mages and rogues.

As for the whole "I'd rather see look at a hot piece of opposite-sex for 40 hours", I find I would actually prefer looking at a good-looking woman than a good-looking man the entire game. I don't know why though, considering I'm not gay. Probably because, like Tor_pedo said, women look better in games than men. ;D

Out of my eight playthroughs in Dragon Age thus far (though only four are actually completed), I've had six females and two males. I've found I usually end up playing males in other games and in reality I think the only reason I've played more females in DA:O is because I prefer Alistair's romance and wanted to flirt with Gorim and Cullen in the origins.

I'm still seriously debating whether or not I really want to play as a male in DA:O, other then the Morrigan acchievement, which I don't care to do, just like the Leilana one, which I also avoided like a plague. I see no point in switching character at least for me for now.

But I'll RP characters from either gender and I'll always RP them straight. At least for 'relationship' purposes, if I RP a spy, the PC may seduce either gender if it's easier to do that than kill a bunch of someones, for instance. But still, their preferences are straight.
I generally make a character concept in my head, and from there I'll define race and gender from that concept. It's not so much, "Oh I want to RP a female." As, "I'd like to RP something like (character name)." And then I'll go about figuring out how to make it in the concept of the game I'm playing.

And for the "woman can't be warriors" set: it's fantasy. In the real middle ages, women were oppressed in general, so no, there weren't many women warriors (Boudicca and the like notwithstanding). There also were no mages or darkspawn. But for the record, there have been some fairly good swordswomen throughout the ages, and no, they didn't look like bodybuilders, they just looked like athletic women. La Maupin could have been an inspiration for Liliana:

Is that all you look at whilst you play the game? Because I'm usually looking ahead of my character.
