I switch often, just makes a different and nice experience.
Do you play as female or male?

I am male and prefer to play as a female.
Not gay or anything I just enjoy it for some reason.

I'll do both, but normally stick with male.

Always female here.

I like playing as both. I like seeing things from both perspectives. On most games, I usually pick the female character if I have a choice because I'm male and like being different but on this game, I play as both. RPGs are played for the story and the full game experience so it's good to see everything it has to offer.

Depends on the situation. If I'm trying to get an achievement I play as the required gender (I.e. romance plots for females only). Others it's just whichever strikes my fancy at the time.

I'm male and I've always liked to play male. It makes me feel more immersed in the game because I can make choices like I would in real life. I've tried to play female before but I just can't finish a game with one. Maybe I'm sexist and I see women as inferior. Is that okay?

The common response of "Why not be a member of the opposite sex so you can see their butt jiggle lololol omglahahahlelehala" is rediculous, and quite frankly sad. I feel sorry for all people who find sexual attraction for digital representations of humans to any extent.
With that said, I roleplay both, based on who I feel fits the archetype better.
Ex.
Dwarf Warrior/Rogue - Male
Elf Ranger - Female
Human Mage - Female
Human Noble - Male
Elf Commoner - Male
etc.

Female player, and in DA:O I have not been able to get a male character past the origin story. It's just too much fun and enough variety playing female characters that I don't feel the need to branch out. It is also much harder for me to RP a male. I used to do text-based RPG and MUSH, and I would write for males, but it always required a lot more thought and thus less immersion. I would certainly do it if the male character intrigued me somehow, but it's too much effort for a game where there are enough interesting female choices.
I used to kid my husband that he would play female characters in video games so he could watch their fat asses jiggling for hours on end. I say "kid," though he would never confirm or deny. LOL Thanks to the DA:O devs for making women characters who still look vaguely like a figure based on realistic anatomy, despite the penchant for cleavage (especially in robes like the Tevinter and Chasind- those had to be created for male players wanting to play female PCs!).

I found the dwarven noble origin much more fun played as a female.

This is the first RPG I didn't play as a female for my first character. Knowing that there were romances in this game I felt I wanted to experience it as "myself" for the first run through. I must say doing so really added to the immersion for me.
Every other RPG (BG, BG2, Icewind Dale, Temple of Elemental Evil, EverQuest2) I have ever played has been female though and always the same - a female half-elf fighter named Shiarae.

I play both. My first playthrough was as myself so it is a female rogue. My second is full on rollplay as Sargon a gorgeous elven male mage with flaming red hair, blue eyes a hook nose and jutting chin and a pragmatic ideology.

Female here, and I almost exclusively play female characters. It's just more fun to me to RP women as a woman. Maybe it's the whole living vicariously through the butt-kicking women characters since I have to do so much care-taking IRL. I do intend on making at least one male character in this game, though. Just because I want to experience all the other dialog options and party banter

Hmm, when I play as a female next, and I have to romance a male chara (my IRL gender)...
I won't have a problem with that, because in my mind I'll be romancing the female (my PC), who I will obviously have internalized as a character whom I created. I don't see characters as "me," but rather "my creations." I also draw comics, so I'm no stranger to that mindset.
However, I wouldn't ever be able to play through a m/m romance. Zevran just came onto my male PC, and I had to clearly turn him down. Lost a few approval points, but gained peace of mind.

You don't have to worry about the M/M romance with Zevran. Just click to start the scene, go get a drink and by the time you come back it's over. LOL
Then you can tell him it was only a one time thing and he understands. I figure if I didn't see it it didn't really happen

LMAO, losing a few approval points is preferable to having a creepy-crawly feeling at the back of my neck, thinking I did something horrible but is too drunk to remember.

I usually play as a female despite I'm male. Two reason for that, the main point is it's much more satisfying to spend the time of a whole game by looking a nice ass, the second point is I never identify to the MC. The side effect is I hate those stupid romances!
In fact they bore me too when playing a male character.
With DAO my first was female but didn't finished the game with her, the second was male and finished the game, third female is my current play.
I get the feeling when playing this third character that some dialogs could be very different but I'm not sure if this is linked to that or something else. One thing is sure but romance related is that Alistair is a little irritating when you play a male character, but that's different when you play a female character, I didn't push the romance nor the dialogs very far as I'm focusing on some other companions in this 3rd replay, but I push dialogs somehow before playing RTO to get Alistair in RTO.

I always play female characters if they're available. I have no desire to look at a male for 30+ hours.
If I actually role-played at all, this might be different. I consider controlling the PC to be more of a possession than an embodiment.
