I'm almost always a male character, for some reason, I just don't feel immersed otherwise.
Its like I have these beliefs that a main character of an adventure story should be a human male (a noble for example).
I've tried playing as a dwarf, but I feel like I'm playing the 'side character' in the tale. Stupid brain. I can play through fine as a female human though.
Now I feel racist towards the Dwarfs and Elves D=

I'm male, and I play as both male and female characters. Why lose out on replayability just because of gender?

What I don't get is people using a character of the opposite sex as their forum avatar. What's up with that?

Just wondering if any males play as females?

I'm tempted to create a sexy hunky male lol.

Yes....I play female characters. They're much prettier than male characters (the bishounen aesthetic is sadly limited to JRPGs). Not to mention, there's already plenty of male protagonists as it is; why not mix things up? On top of that, Dragon Age is one of the few with lesbian romance, so there's that rare opportunity that should not be squandered.

For me it depends on what type of character i'm building. Most of my warriors tend to be males, archers and mages females and rogues as either. Anyone who's played Diablo 2 knows that was the set up and being someone that played D2 quite a few years i just always seem to stick to certain genders being certain things. But i probably play with females just a little more.

I role-play both. Here it isn't such a issue like in Mass Effect.

i like playing as male characters mainly because in those dark ages,i don't think it's approprate for a woman to lead all those guys & look cool, and i like the noble human,i hated the elves being treated as second class citizens & did't like my elven avatars, they looked like kids which reminded me of the japanese anime where a bunch of kids save the world,i like to imagine that this task can only be fulfiled with a man with a military & graceful background, who could easily lead the the troops, whom people will listen to with respect...i like that.

Put it this way, David Gaider lead writer for Bioware / DAO stated there were over 800,000 pages of dialog written for Dragon Age Origins alone.  Obviously a player will only get to witness a miniscule portion of this effort on a single playthru.

So yes for us DAO junkies, I have played as a male / female, different party group, evil and good  .... etc.  The scope of the writing is amazing in this game.

I play as mainly as female, since I am a female and I just like being a woman better, but I do have one or two male characters so I can see differences in story or dialogue.

I played 3 males, and two females. The first female was mainly to see the difference in Orlesian female vs Ferelden male as a warden. The second female because I want to see the female city elf origin and kill some rapists.

I'm probably gonna do this down the road, but how much of a difference is there? Just so I know a bit beforehand.

I'm female so I like playing female roles, I do have a male dwarf noble and I will probably end up making a male human noble eventually. But I find playing a female as a female so much more fun.

I am a male who plays males.

For whatever reason I can't bring myself to play a female character past their origin story.

Orlesian wut. There's no such origin in Origins.

Anyway, I've played both. I actually have done more female than male in DAO simply because, really, how can lesbian sex scenes not improve a game?

I'm male myself and hate to sound sexist, or gay for that matter, but i'm always a male main character. seem to always be stronger for some reason. plus makes for more "real to life" gameplay when it comes to awsome games like this one that have romancing options:wub:

I usually play female, since I am female. But with DA:O i've actually created a couple of male characters, just so I can use them to get all my trophies.

In any RPG's I always play male. In probably 40+ ME 1&2 and DA:O playthroughs I have not once played a female. I started a DA:O playthrough as a female human noble, and I didn't even make it past the origin because I had zero sense of immersion.
