I'm a dude, but this was the first game I have played where I could pick basically any and all aspects of my character (including, but not limited to gender). As such, I wanted to try my first play through as a female. There doesn't seem to be many different reactions, options or choices stemming from this decision. Indeed, it appears Ferelden has more to say about an elf Grey Warden than they do a female one.

I see myself as the hero, so to speak. So I play as a male.

Errr... What? How does playing a male character equate to being a hero? Women can't be heros?

I think you took it wrong. It means "I see myself as the main character, so I play as a male." In this case, the main character is the hero of the story.

My husband and I play as both.

Hubby and I play as both. It also highly depends on whether there is a voiced protagonist and the available (same-sex) romance options.

I believe my character is a representation of myself so... female.

I am a guy, but I mostly play female characters, besides, Jo Wyatt's voice is a nice voice to listen to.

There's no really no advantage in either sex in Dragon age? Bioware doesn't distinguish a difference between male and female build. For example, in most fighting games or games with melee combat, females are mostly faster and flexible than their male counterparts. While males are mostly power strength. So for me, the quickness is a plus in tearing down an oppenent that relies on power along.

I'm a man and I do play as a female character on Dragon Age.

As a woman, I generally play my own gender. However, I do make one or two runs with a male character just to see the differences in various plots.
The one thing that does tick me off a bit is how often incorrect gender references happen in most RPGs with female protagonists, but it is more an annoyance than anything.

I'm a male and I've played female Wardens and Hawkes almost all the time.
I only played as a male in DA:O basically to get the Morrigan Romance achievement and trophy I only finished the game with a male character once. I've played as a male Hawke only in the Dragon Age II demo. I didn't care for the male voice actor.

With any game, I almost always start out with a female mage/caster type of character (which I am, female I mean, not a mage... xD ), then on my second playthrough it's usually a male warrior/melee type.

I play whichever I feel like at the time. My first playthrough was a female rogue Human noble, and even in the playthrough Im doing right now its male dalish mage (Modded). So its whatever for me. Each playthrough is a loooong time. So I'm not going to be restricted into just myself. that would get boring

I'm girl but I always play males. I never play females because I hate how they move. I tried few times but when I see the running, I simply can't stand it. But I can't help thinking like a woman, so all my guys end up gays with Zevran.
Usually I play as male Surana or Tabris, I played Cousland two or three times (he always becomes the king). Dalish origin I think I never finished.

I'm a guy but most of my chars are girls because in my opinion, story are deeper, more to sink head into. While guys are more to the darker tune (which I really love) but it's too stressful at times. (Maybe because Alistair shuts up most of the time)

I'm a male, but when I play DA, I always make ugly males that look like discarded Disney characters. Yet, I somehow make great looking females. So I usually play as females because of that AND it's kinda funny getting hit on every 8 seconds.

I'm male and play a male character. I never play female characters. There are enough female NPCs in this game to sate my appetite for them.
