Not to be rude, but I have to answer your question with a question. If you are playing a game for 30+ hours, why wouldn't you want to watch a member of the opposite sex jiggle there thing? Unless you are gay....not that there's anything wrong with that.
Normally I'd prefer to play the game as a female, but the game's script seems more fleshed out for a male character.
Ironically, since I played through first as a female, the second run through as a male hasn't been as stale as I thought it might be with the extra dialogue. With it comes more jokes and humor.
Not that I think women are second-class citizens in DA.

Of course I didn't feel a long haired beauty would fit this, so I made her army style. Much like Jean d'Arc for example.
Chose to play a female as main character in this. Strangely I end up doing so in many Bioware games. Oh well.
I'm not concerned. I'd be damned if I'd care what other people think of how I play my games

That said, I played all kind of classes, mostly in MMOs, preferably dps or tanks because I cant stomach healers, they do not fit with my playstyle. I love tanking, I love CC, I love multitasking and micromanaging and I love big numbers on screen.
My main gaming partner is a guy irl, very capable and experienced gamer. He plays female toons when he plays healers or mages, I never asked him why and I am perfectly fine with that. I feel blessed that he actually wants to and can play a good healer since I wont. When he plays warrior/tank types he plays male toons.

yeah, see thats just weird. you want to roleplay being a woman? ok there closet boy.
i can play a female in a game like borderlands where the only choice is lilith if you want that skill tree and special ability, but thats not really roleplaying. its just a shooter and the only time you even notice shes female is when you get in and out of the car. people dont really even have dialogue beyond telling you what mission to do next. that doesnt bother me at all.
in a game like DAO where you would be put in the position of roleplaying as a female and being treated like one the entire game... yeah thats weird. sorry, it just is.
i mean if you are gay, its all good, it makes you happy or whatever. if you are trying to pretend to be a straight man who wants to roleplay as a female, you have closet issues.

If there isn't really any gender-specific RP, I'll play whichever gender has the better looking models. In NWN2, for instance, I'll often play a female elf because I hate the male faces, but when it comes to humans I prefer one or two of the male faces. I always play as male in MotB because of Safiya.

To what end? I find Alistair to be an obnoxious prat, shame really, as it stands, pullable men in the game are in very short supply.

Tho my full play throughs are relegated to my human mage and rogue and elven warrior.
Had a human make rogue, but was wierd playing him. So he didn't last past the origin.

I'm a guy and my char is a female city elf. I just tried it out and liked her origin, so here I am. About the only thing I've noticed is how stereotypical most of the gender differences are.
You sure you're a guy? Sound more like Ellen Degeneres.
