I've only played males in DA up till now (also male IRL), but I've played quite a lot of female characters in the past, even on dedicated RP servers. It feels a little strange to RP a female as a male though, especially if you get hit on by another character (male) who is probably male IRL as well xD. I now know how all those poor girls must feel when they're going out at night :P

why don't buy a dress, wig, and move to greenwhich village and get the whole thing over with

I didn't realize that so many people were still so close-minded this time and age. It's called roleplaying. Hell, I once LARPed a werewolf and yet I don't really feel the need to run off to a big forest and start howling at the full moon. I might call the rest of my pack to hunt you down and eat you as an afternoon snack though...

close-minded would be if people stated you should not be allowed to do something or prevented from doing something becasue of your personal choice

I'm talking about facts as in if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, has a bill and feathers then it more then likely is a......

quack quack

Well, not always, apparently. I simply like to play something different sometimes, to see what it feels like and just for fun. However, I feel perfectly fine as a male IRL and do not have the slightest desire to dress up as a girl when I'm going to school or whatever. So there you have it, it's very possible.

I'm male and I play both -- usually run 2 games at the same time -- so i can see all the content, romances, and dialogs. There are a couple really funny dialogs if your character is female, actually.

Ohhhhhhh now *there's* an idea for a shapesifter -- male-female and back :D
hehe. That would make the romances hilarious.

Lol, I suddenly really want to get the desire demon and lady of the forest shapes (from a shapeshifter mod) for my male shapeshifter xD. Pity that'll be only appearance and won't have any RP effect, but oh well :P

I'm a pure hetrosexual guy and I play both genders.

My male characters are naturally based on facets of myself.

My female characters tends to be (I re-quote from one of my old posts on the pre-social DA forum) tough women driven to change the world through righteous butt kicking.

I also have an abnormal obsession for female warriors wearing heavy plate armour (especially dwarf princesses). My female rogues are forced to wear that revealing leather armour because I can't justify putting points in strength for my rogues, and I wish so often that Tier 7 medium armour strength requirements were a lot lower.

I have tried to play as a guy before but I find it too hard as i cant seem to associate with the character. Ive tried to play DA a couple of times as a guy but havent got that far. probably one of the reasons i had such a problem with the witcher....

I usually prefer to play female characters since I am female. However, I do plan on a male run through to romance Morrigan and see how the plot works out.

In the past, I have played as a guy once in while since many games had more developed plot lines for male characters or didn't even have a female option. Thankfully, DA:O isn't limited in that way.

I'm a male (lol at 'pure heterosexual'). The gender of my PC depends on the game. As an example, of the many MMOs I've played, most of my avatars are female.

For DA:O, tho', I've rolled a female avatar, but have not used it (and I've finished the game at least once and am on my 2nd playthrough). I blame Morrigan. :D (heh, I'm a Claudia Black fan)

I toon'd a chick in this Korean MMO I played on and off for about 3 months. People were always giving me stuff and offering to help me with quests. It was HILARIOUS! I'd walk around and called myself "the Princess" and other people actually used the nickname. By the time I quit (MMOs can't hold my interest for long), I was the elected leader of a whole nation of clans in this game. (200+ players). LOL

LOL i did that too! I just walked around talking all "cutey-cutey" and the guys tanked monsters for me, gave equips (expensive ones!), healed me and everything! Almost everyday i received marriage proposals :D

Korean MMO? I think that's the one i played

Not to be rude, but I have to answer your question with a question. If you are playing a game for 30+ hours, why wouldn't you want to watch a member of the opposite sex jiggle there thing? Unless you are gay....not that there's anything wrong with that.

I would suggest that it's way more awkward for a male to relate to NPCs treating him as a female or even romancing him, than to look at a male avatar. Do you think looking at yourself in the mirror makes you gay too?

Newsflash, sexual overcompensation typically points to repressed homosexuality. Playing a female if you're male does not make you gay, playing a male if you're male does not make you gay. Please leave your insecurities out of gender selection when playing an RPG, kthx.

My male pc banged Zevran and then the male dwarf (no one can resist the dwarf!) at the Pearl so I doubt playing a girl would make me any gayer than that. The idea that playing a game a certain way reveals your sexual orientation is laughable at best.

At worst one is revealing one's repressed sexual tendencies by crying out about such things.

p.s. I'm 110% grade A pure heterosexual man sausage meat so GRRR!!!!!!!!!!

I play both, I was interested to see how people would treat me (PC) as a woman. Would have liked to see more options that was geared towards the fair gender though. Like some NPC's blowing you off because you're a female and the ability to play coy and trick male NPC's to doing stuff for you or giving you free stuff.

"OH it's a dangerous world out there kind sir"

"Well miss have this sword with a +50 attack to darkspawn and 15 rune slots"

Sucker.

I do have to admit if I'm going to play a game for hours and have to stare at somebody's backside for hours, It might as well be a females.

Well I always play a game first as a male...I like to think of my first char as an extension of myself...if the game is good enough then after the 1st or 2nd try or even 3rd (depending on if the game has more then one romance...in this case you have 2 I dont count zevran thats just wack)  Then ill play as a female...I did a female dwarf commoner who was into alistar and now im with a dalish elf chick who is into lei

I always start as a male on my first play through, and then seeing as how there are different dialogue options in this game I tried the female city elf origin as a DW rogue. I had a lot of fun in this playthrough. I had the forced death blows mod, and seeing the little rogue decapitate anyone in her way, I just can't help thinking..."Yeah! this b*** can kill!"

You sure you're a guy? Sound more like Ellen Degeneres.

Last time I looked.

Oh, I get it. You're being all edgy and snarky. That's so hip!

Proud member.
I prefer playing the opposite, probably spoiled by Tomb Raider and No One Lives Forever, no idea.
And no, it's not just about staring at a well-rounded butt, I actually appreciate the opposite sex for more reasons and somehow feel more attached to the character. Maybe it's like creating one's perfect girlfriend. Male characters usually feel boring after a while, I'm a male every day and already know how that is. In DA the main reason to create a male char is discovering different story branches and the unmentionables of Morrigan (I'm still straight, so that's something I need to do sooner or later).
