I play as both, because I want to experience all the content and see what changes in the game from playing as a female.

Hot steamy lesbian action, is always a plus, too.

I never roleplay female characters. Unless that's the only PC in the entire game (Kult - Heretic Kingdoms, for example).

Haha, and calling others closet trannies is no insult? Well, have it your way, your wisdom renders me speechless.
I'll have to meditate about some important questions concerning my sexuality now.

I'm a man and i mostly play as female characters, i just find strong females atracting, and by strong i don't necessarily mean physically. Also i find it easier to care what happens to a female character rather than a male one.

Hah, I remember these kinda of posts from back when I played *cough* WoW.

Someone always had to insult and call people gay for playing the other sex (mostly when guys were playing as a female).

Play the gender you want and enjoy the most, it's as simple as that.

I play lots of females. I'm not sure why. Maybe some psychologist could do some paper on why straight males roleplay female characters. And no it's not because we look at their buts (the stupidest reason for playing a female toon I've ever seen). I suppose because it is "roleplay" Even though I have no desire to be female in real life, in a game I can explore the possibilities. And many dialogue options and/or quests I would never get to see if I didn't play females in rpg's. I like to experience the entire game. It's what I paid for after all. I like to get my money's worth.

P.S. I play females on online games as well. It is plainly obvious I'm not a female irl, only a few clueless youngins couldn't figure that out (had one kid in wow ask me to take off my robes LOL- not gonna happen)

I'm female irl. In MMOs I prefer to play female characters as a rule, since I'm dealing the 'real' people it feels a little uncomfortable at times to be in 'drag'. That said, I do generally have at least one male character, just to stir things up a bit at times, and tweak peoples noses.

In solo games, though, I play both. I currently have 10 characters in DAO - both genders, all races, all classes. Maximum experience, maximum variation, value for money, and as someone said earlier in this thread, my OCD completionist fix.

As for those who think that makes me 'weird' somehow, I think that makes you narrow-minded, parochial, immature, and probably sexually insecure.

Homophobic + misogynistic.  If he could only add a racial slur we'd have the triumvirate of prejudices.

Saying "I can NEVER understand why someone would play a female character" then relating people who do play female characters and are male to "closet trannies" is actually homophobic. He refuses to empathize with people wanting to play a GAME a certain way. Or who knows, maybe you're right, maybe the second someone accidently selects a female character and are in fact a male it turns them gay, yup, has to be.

That dude is just a bully. He was really cool in high school and now the JV football jersey he wears is meaningless, tattered mesh. I would ask why some people play as a bully in forums but there are pills for that they should be taking. My first character for this game is female and I love her. We have spent 90 passionate hours together and are getting married next month, once I buy back the wedding ring from...oh wait, I think that merchant is dead. Damn. Next I will play a male mage because I love Morrigan too, but don't tell my current PC, plz.

I have both male and female characters, so don't mind playing either. I am just roleplaying, after all. I don't tend to identify myself with a character, or have it look or act like me.

I usually alternate sexes when creating character for replays. My first DA:O character was male, my second female, so my next is likely to be male. I may find it more difficult because I want to play a mage next (after warrior and rogue) and I'm going to lean to the "good" again. If I keep on that back-and-forth, all my female characters would be bad and all my male ones good. So, I may mix it up and play another female immediately after this one then switch back to male for the fourth play.

Of course, this is all dependent on whether or not something else comes along to take me away from DA:O. With ME2 and FF13 on their way, it's going to be tough.
