Do you play as female or male?

That said, when it comes to RPG's, I usually play as a male first and female later.

Luckily DA:O has no PC VO, so I can choose male or female depending on the mood I'm in or as inspiration takes me. I usually come up with better female names than male for some reason though.

My first play through in DAO was as a male character but I have now started a female play through.
What I find interesting is that a lot of people talk about romance options as being important - in that "I am male but I couldn't play a female because I don't really want to explore a romance with another male" (and the romance option is the principal difference; esp. in DAO).
I'm bi and so the romance itself I have no problem with. What I've found increasingly difficult is role-playing a female character as a female. I will mostly likely play a given game the same whether I am playing male or female.

The female character I created is far too hot to bother playing a male character. If someone though could take my creations and switch them with Morrigan and Leliana then I would roll as a male. What can I say, I am superficial when it comes to looks. especially if I have to be watching that character for hours and hours.

The characters I play are not myself.
Meaning I dont try to make the characters look like myself, and they are of both genders.

Since I´m a man and you see your chars backside most of the time, I prefer playing a female character.
That easy.
Besides, my elf is one of the hottest chicks I´ve ever seen. Damn that she isnt real........
.....they are polygons, not actual flesh...you do know this....i hope.....
Yea, I know. It´s just... sometimes I wish she was real and not only polygons. Its a sad world, where polygons can be more attractive than real people. But its reality. Damn reality. It sucks.

Thats how I view my female character (the smokin hot one above). She is simply starring in DAO where I have some directorial input.

Of course I have played Female characters just in role playing matters I am never that good at playing a female character, and if it is an MMO it is extremely awkward when people think you are a girl.

Perhaps I was a masochist, since I had Anomen with me...
It never hurts to try something new in a game, but I do tend to play male characters overall in games where I have a choice.

I just played male character to have sex with Morrigan.
Actually, that's mostly the reason I made a male character in DAO.
In BG I used to play males, well one male, since that was the only way to romance Jaheira, who happened to be my favourite romanceable option in the game.

Curious, when you watch Angelina Jolie in a movie do you feel uncomfortable if there is a love scene wit her in it? How about Kate Beckinsale in Underworld? In both movies the women are the main characters and yet, I bet not a single straight man would complain about a love scene featuring either.

For me it's simple: I control characters; they can be any race or gender; I have fun as long as they suit the role I choose for them.
I won't however use a female for my forum avatar, unless I had a certain intention or some ulterior motive.
PC version? If it's just the appearance that bothers you, you can change it into something more appealing. I myself use version 2 of ASKs Zevran Replacements. Then again I still do prefer Alistair in terms of his character and voice.BelgarathMTH wrote...
I still await a game that has a M/M romance option where the romanceable character is actually attractive to me. Although, kudos for the devs for stepping in the right direction.

Actually, it would be interesting to see some of the hottest female characters created by players - maybe someone should start a top 10 list or something.
Call me strange (or pathetic), but I could spend days just creating beautiful women characters. Its kind of like sculpting... so far I have stuck to brunettes as I have a preference for them... but guess I could consider blondes

If you use the toolset to create your characters, then you could easily swap out Morrigan or Leliana.

I seldom or never identify with female characters, in Underworld for instance, Michael Corvin was "my" man - the one I identified with. Selene was "just" a stunningly hot chick in a skin-tight leather suit.
