We've all been there. Hell, I'd play as a Panda if it was a given option.

I'm a girl and I've finished the game with a female character. :-) I've taken a few male characters through some different origin stories, though... I will probably never finish them, since I took a look around in the toolset for the parts of the game that are different depending on Origin. (Well, not unless I want to try out the one romance that's only available to male Wardens to see what that's like - just reading the text isn't enough for something like that. With that lady, tone of voice and facial expression are veeeeery important!)

I may have to play one sooner or later for that too but i've no interest in getting in her robes, a strange opinion form a man, don't you think?

Leliana on the other hand.. :o

PC version? If it's just the appearance that bothers you, you can change it into something more appealing. I myself use version 2 of ASKs Zevran Replacements. Then again I still do prefer Alistair in terms of his character and voice.

Version 1 looks like Spike!  *downloads*

I was thinking someone would have commented on my female creation!?

She´s quite nice.

Actually, it would be interesting to see some of the hottest female characters created by players - maybe someone should start a top 10 list or something.

Id love to post a pic of my char, but how do you do it? I dont know:(

Call me strange (or pathetic), but I could spend days just creating beautiful women characters. Its kind of like sculpting... so far I have stuck to brunettes as I have a preference for them... but guess I could consider blondes ;)

Lolz I understand you, same here (though I dont like brunettes) B)

BtW, what does pathethic mean? English isnt my native language, and this is one of the words I´ve rarely ever heard.

It's meant to be an insult: someone or something that is contemptible, inadequate, worthy of scorn or ridicule.

and if it is an MMO it is extremely awkward when people think you are a girl.

However this is something that can give you a new perspective. I remember when I first played a female character in a mmorpg, I had quite some trouble leveling. At least every third mob that I attacked was killed by some higher level male character that just had to "save the poor girl from the evil butterfly", so to speak. After a while I very much understood the reluctant behaviour of some female chars I've met before, because after about half an hour all that went through my head when I saw another male char coming my way was "Oh no.... not again!"

I'm female. I usually play female characters. I generally don't buy games that don't allow me to play a female character. This isn't because I cannot identify with male characters: rather, it's a childish sort of 'SUPPORT FEMALE PLAYERS, DANGIT :E :E :E' routine. Some of my favorite books and stories have male protagonists, just like some have female. As I said above, I 'usually' play females, but not always. I finished two full DA:O games as a gal: I have two more started, one with a dude. I was never able to finish Mass Effect with a guy because of the voice is just not anywhere near as awesome, but I've played male through Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, KOTOR- and of course Planescape: Torment and others. Never quite managed to buy in to the Witcher or Fable, though.

I tend to find people who think that playing a character of the opposite gender makes them OMG GAY rather silly and pathetic themselves, but then again, I don't think being OMG GAY is that horrifying, either. Gasp, shock.

And just as I urge all female gamers in to RPGs to give Planescape: Torment a try for it's brilliant writing despite the male protagonist, I also urge male gamers in to puzzle games to give the Longest Journey a try despite the female protagonist. The Nameless One and April Ryan are awesome, as are the games they star in. :)

It would be interesting to play as a female and romance Leliana, just to see if the scene is any different. Also, you can have a threesome with Alistair and Isabella as either male or female, though I haven't done this, so I don't know if there is a scene.

I'm a male, though I'd say 80% of the characters I make are female. I've played through a lot of times because I get a kick out of seeing all the different possibilities as you go. As far as female characters go, it's just fun. I do agree with the previous poster who said creating beautiful female characters is like sculpting, and I too could spend (and have probably spent) hours doing precisely this. Playing as a female I've found to be much more satisfying in general, especially with the City Elf and Dwarf Noble origins.

Is it weird to say that my favorite romantic option is Alistair? Maybe I shouldn't have said that.

I play both genders. It really depends more on the "what kind of character do I want to play" rather than always making a female character just because I identify more with one. My melee rogues are mostly City Elf females while my archers are Dalish males... My tanking warriors tend to be dwarven females and mages elven males. I don't care much for playing human or dwarven males, it's hard to make them look attractive in the character creator and I want my adventurers to look dashing. :P

Definately prefer to play female characters. I don't care if it's a childlike, petite girly girl, a gorgeous, seductive vamp or a rough n' tough bruiser. If I have the option, I'm picking the gal.

I can only assume it's because I find them easier to root for, although I'll spend an hour trying to craft the most 'perfect' looking female I can (perfect meaning the best look to fit their personality).

But then, I have toons with wildly varying personalities, so maybe not.

Ah well, straight, married female here.

I am male but ALL my characters are female, Its much nicer on the eye watching them run around on the screen for the 40+ hours your gonna play the game than a hairy arsed bearded dwarf !! It gets a bit yeuch when you have to do the romantic stuff with Alistair though lol

Both though I prefer "eye candy" and lesbianism most the time if appealing. I'm a man. I'm a pervert.

Next question.

In RPG's where my character has no speaking voice, I have to play as a male cause I just can't relate and get into playing a female.

In RPG's (like mass effect) where the female has her own voice and more set personality I can play either sex, and often do to get polar opposit play throughs.

I'm male but I'm playing a female at the moment (based on an old D&D char I made many years ago) and going through the city elf scenario is brilliant. I wanna run through it again though as a male to see the differences.

This is the kind of game where you need to play the game as both I think. :)

I agree. I'm male, but I have 1 male warrior (human), 1 female warrior (human) and 1 female mage (city elf). Its very interesting how different the main characters react to your sex in the game. I haven't tried a dwarf yet, it should be interesting. Image IPB

Huh. Forgot about that. A very valid point, one that may have me creating many females from this point onwards...
