Male in DA:O, but in RPG's in general, I play either one, depending on my mood.
Do you play as female or male?

I don't see why people are so opposed to playing characters of the opposite sex. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that. I am male, and quite honestly, I get enough of that in real life, so I tend to play female characters in games. Of course if the game is one that offers races past the typical human-elf-dwarf combo, such as the tauren or orcs in WoW, I'll play a male character cause the female ones just look plain weird. But in dragon age, my first playthrough was a male warrior, just cause. The second playthrough I'm doing a female warrior. I mean, as a guy, it gets a little repetitive playing only male characters. I tend to find that, while the grass may not be greener on the other side, it certainly IS different. The female perspective thends to give me a different view on things in game cause I'm a guy, and quite honestly, what kind of guy doesn't enjoy looking at the swaying hips on a female? Plus female warriors are just hot.

I play as a male pretty much everywhere. I'm not really certain why; it could be similar to the reason that some male gamers give for playing female PCs: if I have to stare at a backside for hours on end, it might as well be one that I enjoy looking at.

As a female I play as just that - a female. Not that I don't like playing a male character its just nice to be given the option to chose for once

As a female I tend to play female more...and not just for the pretty clothes as I actually prefer heavily armored types
I have played male characters in Neverwinter Nights, however.
It's just generally easier for me to identify with a female character (even one unlike the real me) for sticking with a character RP-wise.

Play both male and female, mood and which studio wrote the game!
It is often interesting to see the way the writers allowed for either sex, or not as some situations show.

Male in RL. Most games I prefer female PCs, though I'll usually check first and if only straight romances are available I'll play a male. Also if I'm playing something where the female toons aren't good looking, such as orcs or tauren (moo!) I'll play as male.
One other instance where I'll play as male -- sometimes the armor for females just looks silly, e.g. plate armor with a bare midriff and cleavage. But I usually play as a mage, so it's not an issue.

I play a female also, because that's what I am. I tried to play a male character once, and just couldn't get my mind to think like a male would. Talk like one would also. *shutters* I mean, really when you think about it there all just little boys who never grow up.

I do have one thing, that's interesting to say.
For years when I first started playing RPG's it was always a male as the main character on some of those older games. See the makers of the RPG's didn't think that any female would play the games. They made the females in the games be sex pots, gearing there game to the young male. Over time they found out that there where lot more females out there playing then they reliazed.

I'm male but given the choice, I prefer to listen to a female voice set and watch a female model (not that the DA:O females are particularly slinky, but ykwim!)
Most male RPG voice sets irritate me, which is the strongest determining factor.

I usually do males, but eventually my urges get the better of me and go in for the op, then I stay as female for all future playthroughs, and why are all dwarves American in this game?
We all know, Dwarves are invariably Scottish, or from Cornwall.

Female most of the time I only play male if there's a MxM option. Which is like never >_>
I have no problem playing a male in a game that doesn't offer a choice (Though choices = win)

Ive only played a male once in the game. I like to play the females better, since most the games I have Iam forced to be a male. Its nice to actually get to play a female.

I made up a couple of male and female characters. I started with a male dwarf then female mage, and then male warrior. I was curious, at first, to see the different origins. then I stuck with the female mage cause she was more fun to play even though I am male

I'm a female and I usually like playing as a female character, I tried playing as a male a few times but I usually don't like to create guys, they always end up ugly...
I first played as a female Noble, and now I am playing a female Mage.
