Were the scars all over Velanna's arms ever explained?  I never used her much, so I never got to hear much of her back story.

I think you may be mistaking part of her robes for scars. She has gold ribbons wrapped around her arms in the style of Chasind robes.

Not the greatest shot, but you can see them here on my PC in Origins.

It is because she is an Emo and likes to cut herself.

She's too angry to be Emo, my theory is that her special time of the month... is well every day of every month.

On a related note, is that not one of the ugliest outfits in the whole bloody wardrobe?! I mean really. Mage costumes are all pretty rough on the fashion sense, but that's got to be the most unflattering garment of the bunch.

2Asdara...it's because of naked ass. In a world where arrows and bolts are common weapons naked ass is a bad idea.

My theory is that magical aptitude is like science and high level math in the real world. Really strong magic users are just medieval science nerds with no sense of fashion.

I kind of like them, wildly inappropriate though they are to the situation...I guess my Mages are secretly tarty.

The description on the Chasind robes is  kind of  though.

Again, that style of robes comes with gold ribbons or cords wrapped around the forearms. Unless you're seeing something I'm not, there are no scars.

Mage robes are so bad, that I will always be an Arcane Warrior to get some respect for myself. I am a guy yet when my FemWarden wears that even I feel objectified.

Consider it a distraction for the enemy. ;)

It's part of the Chasind-style robe (also Robe of the Witch and Lesser Tevinter robes) - there are cords wrapped around the arms as people have pointed out. I like that style robe on guys (male boobage is hot!) but on women it just looks ****ty. My female mages always end up as AWs.

The Chasind-style robes look good on men, which is nicebecause their version of the standard-issue tower robes are disgusting.
