The whole "romance everyone and everything" stuff

Why is it people want to have romances with everything non human? Like Garrus say in his romance dialogue "You can hit something a little closer to home" or something along those lines?
Ok human - asari, fair enough - That is like human - elf to compare with fantasy settings, but have you ever seen a human - dwarf pairing? Physiology is just to obscure to see it happen, why would Garrus ever want to be with a human for instance? Is he that desperate being a not a very good turian?
Or the other way around, the whole excuse "I want someone I can trust" is just to cheap - Taking Garrus romance as an example.(only played 1 femshep, only did Garrus romance grudgingly to see the famed paragon interrupt in his romance)
In fantasy dwarves and humans (example) can be very good friends, but physically they are well, incompatible.
Elf - Halfling pairings is kinda rare too.
Fine, Garrus is a cool character I'll give him that but I would like a game for ME3 where romances is well, "less" - Not that I mind flavor but in ME2 I can barely talk to a female without hitting on her and if I turn her down she will never talk to me again. I mean "Wtf" - Can't we have some serious adult FRIENDSHIPS with dialogue, without the whole "lets have sex" thing in it?
In DA you can flirt with Oghren, but you can't go all the way - It's fine, it's humor, it's more adult.
And Tali romance, don't even get me started... I risk killing her?!? Even if I liked her character I wouldn't do that to her despite she perhaps wants it. But again, physiology difference is just to big.
I can like a member of the opposite sex without constantly thinking about how to get that person in bed.
I had way better arguments in my head as well, they're gone. Perhaps they come back later when I get flamed but seriously, can we have a more adult ME3 where it's possible to be friends with Miranda after saying I didn't mean it that way instead of just hearing "There's a lot to do commander, another time" constantly after that?
Guess it's to much to ask

Well... in ME2 he is the only human option for femSheps. I 'm pretty damn sure that 99% femsheps prefer any kind of space lizard over him.
Srsly now. Yeah, it seems that romances are a bit 'forced', it all smells like a big fanservice. And yes, I would like to be just a buddy for Jack. But this whole 'sex or nothing syndrome' is - I guess - caused by... ah yes... "streamlining".
Anatomic differences? Well... Shepard is a hero, so he gets ANY girl. Or a guy. Or a not-really-a-woman blue space dryad.

Too bad, seriously. Canon shep is male, anyone who goes beyond that bound might get a little less or other options when dealing with the NPC's (like playing on sexuality when dealing with them, Donovan Hock comes to mind)
If canon shep was female it would be another matter and seem weird that there were more romance options for a male non canon shep yes.

A few months ago, I wrote this on the old forums (obviously, not intended to be seen as part of the ME universe):
Excerpt from a meeting at the galactic conference for ethnography and cultural studies. Names have been replaced by tags according to anonymization protocol #101. Database available on request.
@@5: (presents a report about Human reproductive behavior and its influence on the portrayal of extraterrestrial species in Human culture)
@@17 (shocked): "Can this be true? They are...er...always in season?"
@@5 (smugly): "Yes. The data are unmistakable. I think we can now say that
the theories recently put forward by our esteemed colleague @@284, saying that we would never see this kind of reproductive setup in a species intelligent enough to build an advanced civilization, have to be...ahem...thoroughly revised."
@@17: "But how do they get anything done? Anything…er…else, I mean."
@@5: "I was coming to that. But first, let me put a somewhat unusual question to you: How many of you look forward to your next reproduction period?"
@@54: "Pfft. How could you look forward to *that*? We’ll be completely out of control!"
@@371 (from the back bench): "Yes. It’s rather liberating, don’t you think?"
(shocked silence. Heads and eyestalks turn in the direction of @@371)
@@371: "Oh…have I said anything?"
@@54 (turning back to face @@5): "Are you saying that these Humans are like that *all the time*?"
@@5: "Yes and no. You see, the drive exists all the time, but opportunities for sex are comparably rare…"
@@77: "Heh…everything’s rare compared to all the time."
(some time later)
@@5: "I think we are agreed. Our report to the galactic council will recommend that the Human species will not be approached, at this time, to become part of the galactic community, because their obsessive focus on sex clouds their reason even in unrelated topics. Since that focus never ceases, they cannot be relied upon to act sensibly in any endeavour whatsoever."

I'd romance Legion (non-physically of course) just to see how that would work out, if it even could. Curiosity.

I run my ship military. No fraternization. On a serious note, I think the role romance thing is overdone and totally unnecessary .
It definitely worked a lot better in the first game, where the game actively questioned your motives if you saved your LI on Virmire (and let's be honest, if you weren't romancing the Asari, you saved your LI on Virmire). As well as both of your characters repeatedly acknowledging that what they were doing would be rather frowned upon by the Alliance brass when they found out about it.
THen in ME2, Shep gets a full pass to **** everything in the galaxy and immediately takes advantage of it. I guess military life in the future is pretty repressive.

Try to read what I said? That's why, if you can't pick a better argument than this don't bother.

Probably because most of those romances would be too risky. Besides, they do a poor job explaining inter-species relationships and how they work. At least in ME1, they explained the asari in depth, so it becomes a viable option.

And the Tali love fest thing will baffle me too. You don't even know what a Quarian looks like and they have that problem with being susceptible to infections(makes me wonder if they are missing an epidermal layer).
A lot of the time I go with the...I run this ship military approach.

QFTx10000.
And here the short version of why. (the following rule does have exceptions, but they're exactly that: exceptions: odd minority preferences and the rare symbiotic co-evolution):
Inter-species romance is implausible because between any two individuals of any species, no mutual sexual attraction will exist unless, both being healthy and under the most supportive circumstances of their environment and life cycles, they could engage in sexual reproduction with each other.
As for the asari: how do they manage to be attractive to several species at the same time? If they really look like humans, why are krogan attracted?

You paid for the game so you have right to complain about quality stuff. But tastes... you know, it seems that majority wants some sweet alien looove. There's nothing wrong about that. I mean, at rational level. I was screaming when I saw Wrex/SHEpard fanart.nhsk wrote...
