Oh and for the love of all that is holy, keep "bromances" far far away - Not I have anything against gays, but if it turns out in ME3 I can't even be friends with same sex members of team without thinking of getting in their pants... Jesus christ

Not quite sure you get what 'bromance' means, dude.

However contrary to popular belief not all romantic relationships revolve around sex. There's no reason why a Quarian and Human can't still at least simply love one another.

Pretty much this.

Human love is a mix of social and reproductive functions. Translating the former to an inter-species relationship is no problem at all. That's why I'd like more "deep friendship" options with some of my nonhuman squadmates. Anything more, even if the biochemistry wasn't in the way, would be at least as odd as homosexuality in humans - perhaps not exceedingly rare, but definitely a minority taste.

Now a Turian-Human relationship is extremely odd. First off there is a bitter sort of resentment between the species over the First Contact War. It would be very odd for a Turian or Human to ever be more then friends. Also while Turians likely reproduce like humans, they aren't exactly mammals. Simply put there's really no kind of physical attraction to even warrant either species being interested in each other. I dunno a relationship between a Human and Turian has to be out of pure love for one and another. To me it seems rather silly, but I guess out of sheer need for a like-minded companion it could happen.

A Drell-Human relationship is basically in the same boat as a Turian-Human relationship, other then that Drell physically resemble humans a bit more then Turians do. Drell to me are Lizard-Men while Turians are Dinosaur -Men.

QFT.

As for the Asari well there's really no reason why an Asari and Human can't have a relationship. Physically Asari are pretty much Human females minus the head fringe thingy. Of course seeing as how Asari can reproduce with any sapient being just about it, there's really no reason why they can't have a relationship with any species.

The things that gets me every time is the question of how they attract other species? They look human (I gather the mind-control option hinted at isn't meant seriously, and let's forget the plausibility of their looking so exactly human in the first place for now), so it's no surprise human men and some women are attracted. But take, for instance, a krogan.... weird. Really weird.

There's no reason the First Contact War would keep two individuals from the turian and human races from forming a relationship. In the case of Shepard and Garrus that war happened before they can even remember.

I don't even see a lot of animosity over the First Contact War between humans and turians anymore.

Truth.

I wish people would stop complaining about other forumites' desire for certain romances, though.  Just because this guy decides to open another thread to whine about them, doesn't mean people will stop sharing their desires . . .

In that case, Krogan and Hanar romances for ME3!

I found Tali's romance, to my own surprise, to be well written. It actually explored in some depth the problems of inter-species relationship, which of course won't be limited only to sex, and I think it's fairly believable.

After all, quarians are probably deeply emotionally unstable, due to their confined lives in the suits and life in the Flotilla. The latter may move around a lot, but the actual inhabitants within the ships -the quarians - seem to spend all of their lives confined to a few ships after their Pilgrimage is over.

In Mass Effect Tali was still a teenager who saw the Galaxy along with Shepard's crew, and pretty much had the most exhilarating (even if terrifying) and self-determining time of her life. So I found her dialogue justification to be rather plausible. It steemed more from a desire for some affection and just physical contact with another being in a fully inclosed life, rather than sexual attraction.

I actually find asari a bit more far-fetched, their mind-melding above all, but both Samara and Liara were handled with care as far as the dialogue is concerned.

What I did find highly unplausable were the human female romances (excluding Ashley) and the male aliens. Both Miranda's and Jack's affection towards Shepard seems a bit writer-forced to me, and while I've only played a single time with a female character (and a psychopatic loner at that), so I'm not fully familiar with the dialogue (I relly YouTube vidoes), Garrus and Thane seem incredibly unplausable. Not to mention that if there's any worse match sexualy for a human than a quarian, it would be those two (krogan excluded, that's horror territory).

In all honesty, up to Mass Effect 2 it didn't bother me (neither in the game itself), but the fan outcry is starting to get overwhelmig. I would prefer if Mass Effect 3 skips new romances entirely and only leaves you to resolve the "relationship baggage" you carry from the previous two game - which, understandably, can't just be skipped.

No one here can really question the plausability of inter-species relationships (anatomically, that is) because they were created by the Mass Effect creators, and they can do pretty much whatever they want with the species they made. Since humans have never even discovered alien life in the real world, there is no standard to follow on different species. Questioning what they're attracted to isn't really a valid argument.

Concerning the physiology of different species, we can assume that their sexual organs are compatible with humans, since Mordin gives you a simple warning that drell and turians just chafe or whatever (I haven't done a ME2 femshep yet, but I think he says something like that). This means that Shepard isn't breaking ground on getting with another species, because Mordin knows all about it.

And then there's the species being attracted to each other. Why wouldn't a female human be attracted to a turian or drel, or even krogan? Hell, I've seen some men (and women, ahaha) who look like krogan and do fine for themselves. So banging another species in the ME universe isn't that implausible.

Honestly, I could see room for even more possible conquests of Shepard, like balancing multiple relationships. And maybe, just maybe, you could "pick up" and asari on Omega GTA style (wink wink)

Ok human - asari, fair enough - That is like
human - elf to compare with fantasy settings, but have you ever seen a
human - dwarf pairing?

In fantasy dwarves and humans (example)
can be very good friends, but physically they are well, incompatible.

In
DA you can flirt with Oghren, but you can't go all the way - It's fine,
it's humor, it's more adult.

Excerpt from DA:O codex
on "Sexuality and Marriage": " Humans and dwarves can produce
half-dwarves, but this is very rare."

They aren't physically incompatible.I like to think of it as pairing
with small folk in real life.

As for the asari: how do they manage to be attractive to several species at the same time? If they really look like humans, why are krogan attracted?

Asari can choose when, where and with whom they want to procreate with. Many of their species are single parents so any other race might find this appealing that they can have sex with an Asari out of curiosity and not have to deal with the baggage.
It's also an opportunity for Krogan to have children/offspring despite the genophage.Same with any other species. If they are impotent or barren they have the opportunity to have a child that can live on for 1,000 years.
Asari are like equal opportunity lovers. And curious too in their "maiden" stage.

I agree that we should be able to have friendships with our squad members if we choose and not get into a romance easily because we picked the wrong dialog option. But we should also have the choice to romance them as well. And really, it's fantasy. It's like playing a GTA game and running over 30 pedestrians. It's not something you would do in real life. It's something that you do in the game just because you can.

Don't want alien romance, turn the aliens down, for those who think it is funny/cute/very... Invigorating... (Talimancers), I say go right ahead.

Things that you do in video games differ to what you would do in real life. I don't run around killing prostitutes like I do in GTA. I don't kill people in airports like I do in COD.

They differ, the point of games is to do somthing you can't normally do that you find fun or amusing , like romancing aliens, which I can't and wouldent do in real life.

Leave those who want to enjoy the game the way it was made (with alien romances) alone.

Problem solved! Turns out tolerance, like in real life, will work on the Internet! Shock horror!

When the story is changed to please the fans you know that franchise is in trouble.

I wouldn't mind a romance if writers actually found room for it and implemented it in a plausible way. Only reason why we can bang Tali/Garrus is because fans yelled: "I want!" and that fact makes me dread of what ME3 will bring.

I use a femshep, and would like a Tali romance for her....but IT DOESN'T NEED A SEX SCENE....

Just a deep talk about feelings, even the option to not risk (in this case) your LI life for a few minutes of pleasure.

About the "romancing everyone" thing....you can do that in real life....it doesnt mean its gonna work with everyone....but you can always try....people have sex with animals, and probably have done things you wouldnt even think of.....hell....1500 species of animasl show homosexual behavior, who knows the extent of it?...im not sure in wich planet the tv makes you think you live...but on Earth, animals have a tendency to try new sexual stuff...for better or worse.

oO thread certainly got a lot more response than I initially counted on, will be hard to answer everyone. Trying to read up everything later but doubt I will have time to defend against every comment for, sorry!
Someone pointed out that I may have misunderstood the word bromance, it seems so. My apologies. However, I have seen threads suggesting M/M or F/F romances. Not that I am entirely against such an idea I do not like the thought of every male being romancable by a male Shep or every female char for a FemShep.

Anyway, going to read through comments now :->
