And call me crazy, but I predict that if you save the base, the Illusive Man would use it to turn himself into a Reaper, or  do something to that extent involving Reaper technology and become a problem fir you in ME3

So, first of all, TIM could not turn himself into a reaper if he wanted to. He would need billions of humans even if he figured out how to make a reaper, and Cerberus simply does not have anywhere near the manpower to pull of an operation like that.

Second, why would TIM get in your way?

Bottom line: I don't trust him. In my view, he would defend humanity at any cost, and I mean at ANY cost. You bet he would use that technology to do so, and with an extremist organization with him at the helm, I think some really bad stuff might happen with the tech in his hands. Like maybe continuing what the Collectors were doing?

It's a stretch, and I admit you have a legit point, but I don't trust him as far as I can throw him.

He's very powerful ally to have against the Reapers. The Council has dismissed the Reaper threat. The Alliance doesn't give a damn. You pissed off TIM/Cerberus. All you have left is possibly the Quarians/Geth (if you advocated for peace), the united Krogan (if you let Wrex lived in ME1), and the Rachni (if you let the Queen go). Though if you didn't do any of those things, you have no allies. All you have is yourself and the Normandy crew...hell some of them might leave you after the Suicide Mission.

I don't trust The Illusive Man either. I do believe he'll try to dominate other races with this tech. I do believe he'll try to use it to his own gain. I do believe he'll conduct in-humane things with this tech. Though, I believe his first priority is to stop the Reapers. I believe this is a "ends justify the means" scenario. The whole galaxy is at stake, trillions of lives. It's worth the risk with TIM. And if we do defeat the Reapers, I'm pretty damn sure we can stop TIM.

In public, i wouldn't be surprised if in ME3 they turn to shepard and say " Wow you really wanna f**k up our plans don't you, here we are trying to keep a lid on things to prevent mass hysteria, and you run around the galaxy screaming THE REAPERS ARE COMING, THE REAPERS ARE COMING, frankly its a miracle you didn't blow the whole thing"

Not completely true. Considering it is the Terminus systems, they can't exactly send a fleet in to protect the colonies, they do however supply at least 1 colony we know of with big ass cannons, and probably the best single soldier capable of dealing with a possible reaper threat.

I mean they completely f****d it up, but at least they tried.

How do you think any ships would get through the Omega relay?

Copying the Reaper IFF? Is that even possible?

Those are valid points, but I just had a bad feeling when the illusive Man argued with me about keeping the base. He wants human dominance for Cerberus which he feels is strength for humanity "Cerberus IS humanity." My belief has been strength for humanity lies in the Alliance regardless of what they did (I believe in ME3 they'll come to their senses when you return). He would use the Reaper tech to gain a foothold in the galaxy for his own gains.

Besides, I already have possible support from the Rachni, Shadow Broker (remember the Hades Dogs mission from ME1?) and support from Quarians/Geth as you said. it'll all come full circle, i feel.

Why not just destroy the relay and let the Collectors rot in their base? Sure, the game would take some 30 minutes to finish...

Sure, kid, whatever you want to believe. All 1500 or so Cerberus personnel are going to dominate the galaxy.

Here's a tip: if Cerberus wants humanity to dominante the galaxy they'll do it through the Alliance.

Why you'd be opposed to that, aside from being dumb, is beyond me.

Because I get the impression that TIM wants to grow his own reaper using the base, and I don't want that

A number of strategies could have been employed.

Relays are indestructible, as far as we know.  But there was nothing wrong with putting up a blockade or mine field around the area, since the only species we know that seem to use the thing are the Collectors: also a pretty simple way of detecting them.

Cerberus is already like BP, their reputation is already fragile at best. What do you think would happen if the galaxy learned that Shepard gave Cerberus an edge with REAPER technology? Cerberus, an extremist organization. Distrusted by many.

Also what Barbati said: TIM using the tech to grow his own reaper.....I can DEFINITELY see that happening in ME3

Being right on Omega's doorstep might complicate that plan of action.

If the galaxy is going to be that petty while the Reapers are breathing down their necks then we sure as hell don't need to give them advanced technology.

Council: "You're saying you gave Reaper technology to an enemy of the state?  Oh please Shepard, you and your silly comments."

Edit: Oh and Cerberus operatives number in the hundreds (150), not thousands.

by the way, doesn't TIM feel the quarians are a threat?

ergo..what better way to use the tech than to use it against them?

Was it that few? I could have sworn it was more. I have a hard time believing that. Then again after the derelict Reaper, Lazarus station, and Overlord maybe it isn't so hard to believe.

Operatives!=personnel. Normandy crew is no doubt Cerberus personnel but they are hardly what you call operative.

Sorry:

EDI: "Currently, Cerberus consists of approximately 150 agents and operators organized into three cells."

Operators (like Lawson) organize the agents (the other staff.)

The way EDI explains it, is:

There are 3 cells.  Each cell doesn't know the people from the other.
Each cells has a number of operations going.  There are no more than a dozen operations going at once, which implies operations go under a specific cell.
The fact that only 12 operations are going on at a time stresses TIM's ability to have personal oversight is odd, considering he's not aware of the types of inhumane actions such operations involve, doesn't quite add up.  Unless he's too busy to ask "you guys doint anything bad?"

I didn't read all 71 pages. On my various playthroughs I have never kept the base; the Illusive Man is not someone I want with that tech, but beyond that we've already seen what the reaper tech has done, mind control, corruption; no one has been able to control it without being controlled and it has always served it's creators best. We have never seen a single instance of any creature or culture studying it and beneifiting, in fact it has led to extinction. Shep would have to be pretty stupid or filled with hubris to think that he (or she) would somehow make people immune.

Beyond this EDI had a good amount of time scanning it and the base, so I do have info and now no one else does.

Well Pragia was twenty+ years ago, that might be what caused TIM to take more direct control (inb4 crappy meme). With Overlord nothing unethical happened until the last minute, when TIM was about to shut down the entire project. Not much he could do that case.

Some might point out Akuze or Chasca, but in both cases we don't really know what Cerberus was doing there. In ME1 the mission on Chasca (Colony of the Dead) states that Cerberus apparently infected the colonists intentionally. The Exo-Geni terminal you read that gives you the quest talks about the danger of giving Cerberus these samples when "We don't have an antidote yet"... but on Chasca the people have been turned into husks by dragon's teeth. So what as going on? Who was infected with what?

Then as a defense Miranda says, "The husks were aleady dead..."

Well no kidding. A husk is just a dead body being directed by nanomachines. So what the hell is she talking about?

With Akuze, well knows what Cerberus was after.

i destroyed the base, because i believe that the loyalty of the other species will be needed in ME3 to fight the reapers. But if you keep the base then Cerberus takes over the galaxy before the Reapers come, and none of the aliens, or the alliance will trust you, and the reapers might win

Ok lets just assume you don't pay any attention at all to the Mass Effect universe.
A) The majority of the galaxys FTL and 2 primary military techs (Mass Accelerators and Kinetic Barriers) comes from the Reapers, that tech has been used for thousands of years if not millions of years so your arguement is sunk right there. Now before you argue that they have always ended up dead that is because the Reapers come and kill them, not because of the tech.
B) The Thanix cannon you use to destroy the Collector cruiser without losing a squadmate is yet again Reaper tech, the Thanix was not gained by studying just any reaper tech, oh no they got it straight from the corpse of a Reaper, i think that right there actully tells you it it possible to study Reaper tech you just have to make sure it's dead first.
C) EDI is Reaper tech.

Bioware isn't going to make us lose because we kept the base for the same reason you don't lose for blowing it up.
Hell what i bet you is going to happen is that there is 2 "perfect" endings in ME3, 1 gained from doing the correct Paragon actions and another from the correct Renegade options. Maybe if we are lucky they'll even include a third one for Paragade/Renegon players.
