Cerberus' track record isn't that great. If my choices are to either nuke the smoothie bar or surrender it to a militant organization that's as much a threat to it's own security as anyone else's, I choose to blow up the smoothie bar. In fact, that's exactly what I did. The galactic core is now a smoothie-free zone.

I think.

Maybe.

I'm fairly certain the bomb went off.

It was a Cerberus bomb, though...

I guess that was the one thing they did right

Which means it was a trap. You're doing what Cerberus wanted you to do! And since everyone knows TIM is indoctrinated by the Reapers, that means you're doing what the Reapers want you to do as well!

My first instinct was to just destroy it right away as it was Reaper tech, but at the time, I did hesitate. In order to make a rational decision, I assumed, for a moment that the Reaper tech COULD be used with minimal trouble.

However, I still didn't want to hand it over to Cerberus on principle. My Shepards have always been vehemently pro-equality and anti-xenophobia and while I was apathetic about working with Cerberus, I didn't want to hand over that kind of technology to those kinds of people. Not only that, but even if I changed my mind in ME3 and blow the base sky-high, it would already be too late. And there was no option to send the Reaper tech to the Alliance to solidify my loyalty with them, so ultimately, I decided to give the Illusive Man the finger and just blow it up.

And since Morinth has seduced all the reapers, that means you are doing what Morinth wants you to do, and then since Shepard has romanced her, that means Shepard is doing exactly what Shepard wants Shepard to do.

But what if you're only doing what Morinth wants you to do because that's what the space hamster wants Morinth to want you to do?

Ahah. Tricky. Clearly, Illusive Man was well aware that my "things tend to blow up around you" Shepard lets her guard down whenever she's handed an incendiary device. Oh well. I got a free spaceship and an E-mail account out of the deal. That has to count for something. Right?

the main reason i destroyed it was something legion said. geth want to build a future, the heretics wanted the old machines to give them one.
would mankind as a whole be mature enough to use that tech wisely? unlikely. would cerberus? hell no.
anyway, giving reaper tech to cerberus would be like giving a loaded gun to a child, standing back and seeing what happens. either they'd shoot themselves, or shoot u. neither option is good.

Why do I destroy the base?

Because I want to.

Or they don't shoot anyone. Like me.

If Cerberus shoots itself in the foot, it only hurts itself. If it shoots someone else, the most dangerous bullets will go down range at the Reapers.

Mostly because the magically color-bending planet (which is conveniently placed behind TIM's comfy chair) in the renegade ending creeps me out and forebodingly tells me that something bad is about to happen if I give him the data.

Well, that, and then there's the fact that I wouldn't give that data to Cerberus in a million years. It's better to destroy it, so that TIM won't get his grubby little hands on it anytime soon.

I think it can be argued both ways, with pros and cons of each.

Destroy - Pros - No chance of Cerberus misusing it

Cons - Possible use against reapers lost

Cerberus might seek to come after you for the loss of the station

Keep - Pros - Use against the reapers

Cons - Possible use by Cerberus

As Legion said, "Humans should make their own future, not let the old machines make their future for them."

I agree with TIM on it's potential, however, he is definitely the last man in the universe who should be allowed to have it. Cmon, all those experiments in game 1, all the times he knowingly throws you into death traps with no info in the 2nd.

People who don't see why to destroy it are so bone-headed... Even a movie as un-philosophical and sophmoric as Iron Man demonstrates the consequence of giving madmen the keys to advanced technology, especially weapons.

"choice" is the wrong word -- more like unstable social determinism

Enjoy your moral high ground while it lasts. I shall have the last laugh as I save my galaxy from the Reapers and you end up being destroyed! I shall have some of it now... Muahahahaha! Muahahaha!

TIM: Think of it's potential Shepard, think of what humanity could accomplish if...

Shepard: I've had enough of your disingenuous assertions.

Well if I had the luxury of actually doing what I wanted, I would spend all my efforts cryo freezing people into sleeper ships and sending off colony ships to distant galaxies away from the Reapers altogether!
