It's outdated to have white characters? Okaaaaay.....
when franchises were made over 50 years ago, designed and marketed specifically for white western demographics, then yes, that demographic is outdated. it represents only a fraction of the global marketable demographic of today. white people aren't extinct, they just are no longer the only demographic being marketed to.

Michael Clark Duncan as the Kingpin made sense. Do you know of any white actors with the physical size to look like the Kingpin and the acting chops of MCD? He's no DeNiro but he is very talented.
Will Smith as Jim West did not make sense. The movie was bad. It was pretty much "I'm Will Smith, I can do whatever I want." It was not about getting someone who physically fit the part or who was the best actor for the part.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury makes some sense. The Nick Fury in the Ultimate universe is Black. I'd rather them butcher the Ultimate universe than the original. I just have a hard time seeing him (SLJ) as hardcore as Nick Fury can be. At least it's not David Hasselhoff.
Imagine the uproar if Blade was played by Collin Farrel? Or if Wolverine was played by Antonio Banderas?
At least Will Smith had the sense not to play Superman. Instead he made Han****. Same powers and "alien" among us approach but they made a new character with a different personality and story.
Other movies like The Last Airbender and Prince of Persia changing the main characters to white is wrong in my opinion. There are plenty of Asian and Middle-Eastern actors with the chops to play those parts.
Changing Spider-Man to black would not make any sense at all to me. It would be done just for the sake of doing it. There are plenty of white actors who physically fit the part and who have the acting ability.
Not only did it make sense to have him play Kingpin, but he actually played the part well. He definitely upstaged Ben Affleck, who couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.
Will Smith as Jim West was just stupid. It was just a way to make a summer blockbuster cash cow, and Will Smith was one of the biggest names at the time. Nothing more than that.
Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury? Why not? What are their other choices? We've already seen what Hasselhoff can do in that role (not much), and if anyone can play a true bad*ss, it's SLJ. I think that he is perfect as Nick Fury.
As for him not being hardcore? Uhhh, Pulp Fiction? Star Wars Prequels? Loaded Weapon 1 (j/k).
As for Spider-Man? Well, considering he is one of my least favorite superheroes, they could have anyone play him, and I just wouldn't care. White, black, asian, middle eastern, no matter who plays him, the character itself still sucks. Sorry to any spiderman fans out there, but that's how I feel.

Black Spiderman is straying too far from the original concept but making a gay Batman wouldnt be too big a stretch now would it?

Then why dont you go make a thread about each of those things rather than moaning about not arguing about these things here?Captain Cornhole wrote...
Why is this thing still going? Should'nt we be argueing about important stuff like: Illegal Immigration, Government Spending and The Isreali blockade.

He's black and he's an awesome character. Problem solved.
Edit: Or Steel. Steel works too.

We both know if I did it would get locked in a heartbeat. I'm just using those as examples of political arguments more important then this crap.

We're not allowed to discuss those things here (though sometimes we get away with it for a while anyway), so we're reduced to discussing black Spiderman.
I didn't make the rules.....I'm just the messenger.

It's not innovative, it's not activism, it's not racism. it's merely the process movies go through all the time when casting, only this time, it's a very well-known character, which is why this question is getting all this coverage. i doubt moviemakers put so much stock in Twitter trends and forum comments that they'd change a decision just because the internet said so.
while it would certainly be neat to see, and Donald Glover is a decent actor from what little I've seen from him, this really isn't the giant social issue some people are making it out to be. it's just another "how about this guy as that character?" discussion on the internet that happens to have gotten legs.
