We can all agree ME3 is supposed to show us everything, and put an end to every unanswered question. Unlike ME2, which was just the "infix".
Me2 is the middle, it was not supposed to asnwere alot of the big questions, only answer some and make some more major ones.
Mass Effect 3 to be More 'Lghthearted'

But then again, When dust falls down. When heat sinks dropped on the ground slowly cool down, when another battle is over and Shep comes back on Normandy, I want to see some happiness. As much as it can be in such times.I want my Shepard to find a short moment of peace in arms of his LI. I want him to chat with those who are no longer just his squadmates, but became his friends. I want my crew to share their thoughts. To make plans for "after all this is over". I want Joker to be Joker. More "biotic god" and "hungry krogan" moments, because there should be at least illusion of happiness for someone who must carry fate of the galaxy on his shoulders. A chance to laugh and relax. Forget about ever-present death, at least for some time.
So yeah, both "light" and "dark" can exist in one game. Because good game, book or film can make you cry from sadness and laughter. I want ME3 to be intense experience, that will make me astounded. To make me think about and re-live the best moments. And of course share my thought on the forum.
Damn, I got all serious or somethin'... This can't be, I have reputation to hold.
tl;dr version: just make it fluently going from "dark" to "light"

Games don't have to be dark to be epic.
If ME3 isn't going to be darker, as least balance that by making it more epic. We don't want a TOO EASY GOING feeling like we got in ME1.
I don't think ME3 is oging to be personal like ME2 was, but I think it will be more epic and Bioware should give us moments where we feel that it is imposeable to beat the Reapers. Maybe half way through the game, something big happens that mindf*cks us.
The game should never end.

According to Casey Hudson in an interview with OXM UK
http://www.oxm.co.uk...le.php?id=19778OXM and Casey Hudson Interview:
It's a tricky balancing act. So, Mass Effect 2 was obviously much darker than Mass Effect 1, with not only the combined angst of your crew but the extra emphasis on romance and the emotional consequence of your suicide mission. With gamers getting older, do you think adult themes need to feature in RPGs more prominently?
Well, I think that as well is also a tricky balance. Ultimately our highest level goal is to make a game that's really fun, both to people who have and haven't played our games before. It's something we're always trying to figure out.
But Mass Effect 2 got such an incredibly positive response. I don't remember reading anyone saying that Mass Effect 2 got too heavy at any point- gamers respond well when they're treated as adults. Doesn't "figuring out" come to an end here?
I think there's a difference between agame feeling grown-up and it having to go to a dark place, because you can go too far with the darkness and troubles in your subject matter. But there is a certain amount of fun that comes from the realism of a story, if it resembles a mature movie or TV show and resembles real adults interacting.
That's part of what we're always trying to pursue - how do we bring on the realism and the humanity of the experience? Because it makes you care more. Having a realistic reason to upgrading a weapon can put the entire game in the right context and make it seem more real.
The argument could be put forward that RPGs are all about escaping into their worlds. The more believable those worlds are, the better the RPG.
Right.
So should we be expecting something even more mature for Mass Effect 3?
[Laughs] Well, we're not talking too much about Mass Effect 3 right now, but the second story in a trilogy is where you traditionally end up in a fairly dark place. The third story is where you try and bring some fun and lightness back into it. One thing we tried to do with Mass Effect 2 was as well as bringing in the more mature stuff, we also tried to bring in a lot more humour so that we can go to these places without making it an overbearing experience. I think we have a lot more fun this time through characters like Joker and EDI. Mass Effect 3 is going to be the epic conclusion... so, a lot more darkness but also a lot more humour.
I thought the tone of ME2 was perfect. I mean, yes, ME3 will have a lighter ending with the reapers being destroyed and Shep emerging victorious, but does the tone need to be more like ME1. ME1 was a great game, but I never truly felt like the Galaxy was in peril from Saren. ME2 made me actually view the Collectors as ann extremely credible threat. (Though Saren is clearly the better villain)
Opinions?
Agree, the tone of ME2 wasnt the problem!
The lack of depth was the problem!
I didnt find ME2 all that darker then ME1 either to be honest.
Citidel was expected to be bright and shiny but the bars were much more mood orientated in 1 and 2.
hmmm, not sure I agree ME2 had a darker feel to it now I think about it.
Atmosphere wise it was about what I expected from reading the two books and playing the first game

But cursing = darker to the devs:P. Oh and you had a few execution scenes thrown in and a mutant human fetus terminator hybrid monster reaper that puked lasers... With that in mind ME2 is waaaaay darker
In all seriousness though I found the talks with Sovereign and Saren on Virmire to be the most "realisticlly" dark moments in either game. Most gruesome was the face melting scene on the collector base, but gore and atmosphere are seperate in my mind...

Exactly, the talk with Sovereign was far more darker and distrubing then anything offer in ME2 now you mention it!
Blowing up Virmie, innocents and all is also rather dark in ME1
Cerberus work/experiments on live subjects
Saren selling his soul for power
Being able to let drug dealers go or just murdering them if you so choose
and lets not forget the far more adult love scenes in ME1 (The Prostitute and your LI love scene)
Story wise, ME1 was infact alot darker. ME2 was basically just you killing mercs (that were evil anyways) and fighting collectors.
About the worst (most dark) thing that happened in ME2 was picking the target to save while bomb destroyed other target and there you had no choice in matter.
The strip joint in ME2 was better done then one in ME1 but thats mostly just the graphic upgrade, not atmosphere or story setting

Wait a minute. Jacob's loyalty mission was dark? I personally would say Legion's mission was actually dark. From my point of view, there was no right answer on his mission.Skilled Seeker wrote...
I blame those fools that made threads about how Jacob's loyalty mission was too dark or how the treatment of women in Omega was sexist blah blah. I hope they're happy now.
