 Spoiler warning, obviously.

I've been a Human Noble Warrior before, but she was all honor and grace and such so I didn't select the "After this I'm going to kill your wife and son as well" when I confronted Howe - it seemed inappropriate to my character and they probably weren't even involved, yes I figured that out even then before playing Awakenings.

Tonight I was feeling saucy however with my Human Noble Rouge and Howe's comeback just FLOORED me.  I mean... Andraste's Flaming Sword!  He made my mother kiss his FEET in front my daddy?! :crying:  I am just... wow.  Nat is going to have to die for this when I get to Awakenings, that's all I have to say.  I know he's an OK guy but that's it.  Blood feud it shall be then.  ... Bastard.

Somehow you are better then Howe for what you are planning to do?

Except Nate didnt know what happens, and was not part of it. So why are you going to hurt someone who didnt do anything, besides revenge?

Thats what Howe SAID happened.

You are going to trust that filths word?

You are going to change because of him?

You are going to let him have that power over you?

Do we know Howe is telling the truth or did he just say that to ****** you off? They might have died before Howe even got to them as he doesn't know where they are and I doubt he's going to be risking his own life in the attack by being at the front and he didn't appear to be in the castle when you were still there.

Besides your parents are resigned to dying there and then, even if Howe showed up I very much doubt there is anything he could do to stop Mommy Cousland from making a suicide charge at him let alone get her to actually kiss his feet.

Mommy Cousland was a semi-retired Battle Maiden with a full quiver of arrows. Howe is probably sterile now. I'm pretty sure Dad was just hanging on until you were out of sight.

Howe is a filthy liar, and Nathaniel, most likely, isn't even his son.

And since everyone said mostly the same...

Fair enough.  I'll have time to cool down before I meet him, still have an archdemon to slay and all - time heals all wounds and all that - but that was my initial knee-jerk reaction.  I know Mother must have had some suicide impulse to kill the intruders and all that, but still - it stung like High Dragon flames.  I wasn't expecting it.

Like he said, he's better at being a monster. And letting Nathaniel join up and realizing just how true that is instead of killing him when he idolizes his father? Much better revenge. Besides, Howe didn't even seem to care that much if you would actually be killing his family.

Well, I used the line, too.  It doesn't mean my PC would actually do it. I haven't played DA:A yet (and I do plan to use that PC) so I haven't had the opportunity to decide how he will retreat his son.  My PC would not kill Nathaniel simply for being Howe's son, but if he isn't confident he won't try to kill him again.  Let's just say he's merciful to people he doesn't think will pose a threat to him again.

I know it. Good living is the best revenge right? Still, hit me hard - and I guess that's a testament to the writing of this game, that it can still get you like that after several play-throughs even.

Am I the only one who really wanted to get revenge on Howe's family after what he did? When I picked the "after this, I'll kill your wife and daughter too" line, I thought I'd actually get the chance. (It was the only "evil" option in the game I totally jumped for.) I was disappointed. You might call me sick, but if anything, the Bioware writers did a great job by making me hate Howe more than any fictional character ever.

I certainly didn't. They had nothing to do with this and already had their title stripped.

In the modern world we dont give the electric chair to an entire family for the actions of one meber of the family. So that is why I always give Nate a chance, plus he is one kewl dude.

What the others have said, mostly. Just because Howe was a reprehensible jackass doesn't meant the rest of his family deserves to die. He was cheating on his wife, too (with Lady Sophie). I figure they've already had a raw deal by losing their lands.

Was he? I thought his wife was already dead.

Nathaniel is nothing like his father (which was a nice surprise for my HNF when I played Awakenings). I usually pick the persuade/intimidate option during the Howe confrontation in Denerim. Much more satisfying to watch the bastard quake in his boots at 'the Cousland glare' you got from dear ole Dad.

The last thing Howe sees in my games:

That just makes any potential angsty romance between human female noble and Nat darker and sweeter, because there will be a romance, there will be!!!

I do not see why Anders and Nathaniel could not have worked as a romance, but then again Awakening had as much charachter plot as DS chronicles.

As much as character hated Howe, she wasn't going to threaten his family. And she kept her same mentality of 'If they're going to die, let it be fighting darkspawn' when she went into Awakening, so she conscripted Nate.

And now they're BFFs.

Well it's my second noble character - as I said, my first was all honor and upstanding right, but this second one is a little less rigid in her ideas. Like, I totally told Anora I'd support her in the Landsmeet and then let Alistair kill her dad and didn't even bother to consult her before giving him the throne. She can enjoy the tower, being the Queen myself is the fastest way to get my family's lands back and rally the army against the darkspawn. It's a win-win, for me.

It's easy to forget that Nat is there to assassinate us up at the Keep - at first, and he says he changed his mind and just wanted to get some of his family's things - but he's in a jail cell at that point already.  Plus, it isn't as if he welcomes your mercy.  So, I mean I know we know that he's an ok guy, but it isn't inconceivable for a character to say 'death to this one'   Heck, I gave the nod to put Jowan to death on this character because I didn't know jack about him to say on his behalf, didn't need nor want his help with the demon, and he poisoned and was a blood mage.  Easy call there.

Heh, you believed Howe? He lies obviously. HN parents were slaughtered by his soldiers. He wasn't even present.
