I dislike any music that isn't manufactures instead of developed artistically. Music is art, not industry, so I hate "the music industry."

For the most part, I only dislike country music and gangsta rap in terms of genre.

I denounce John Cage and all of his works. If that gets me banned, then so be it. John Cage is the poster boy for how lack of talent, artistic attitude and a gift for flim flammery can make someone into a celebrity and a musician.

No, that's hip-hop. Hip-hop is awesome. That is a genre that revolves around dance, lyrics, art, music, and knowledge. Anyone here can google "the five elements of hip hop" and get a great description of it all. Gangsta rap evolved as the garbage byproduct of the evolution of hip-hop. These days, almost nothing that plays on the radio can actually be called hip-hop those a lot of the artists try to make that claim.

Well first off, I didn't say I hate them.

Second, no they aren't. They claim to be, but they aren't.

I can claim to be a kung fu master, because I've trained in some martial arts. Do you think I'm really a kung fu master?

Lil Wayne in particular has that "I am hip-hop" catch phrase, which is complete BS. He makes lyrics that aren't even very impressive, and adheres to nothing else that is hip-hop. "I am hip-hop" is the same as me saying "I am a kung fu master." Just because it is said doesn't mean it is true.

Have a read through this.

Most of the artists I like are mostly pretty old.

Some of the more recent ones are:

Common

The Gorillaz

Rage Against the Machine (yeah, they do hip-hop, they just also do rock)

and Presto One

If I may interject (and I'm sure the silent minority of hip-hop fans on this forum will do so as well, since we can't resist)... here. Have a listen to some of these samples and let me know what you think. It's worth noting, I think, that while rap is a huge part of hip-hop, it isn't all that defines the latter. Hip-hop is versatile enough to accomodate and encompass many performance styles and sounds across the globe, and it really does say something about the universality and versatility of the genre. E.g.:

Lauryn Hill ~ That Thing
Common ~ The People
M.I.A. ~ Paper Planes
Epik High ~ Map The Soul

My contract wife is well informed. What she listed is definitely hip-hop.

But like you said not all rap is hip-hop. It's just that not all hip-hop is rap either. Some hip-hop is just art or dancing, and many different genres of music can be hip-hop. It's about the message and the soul, not the genre.

Hahahahaaa. I like it!
I know a friend who was (dunno if he still is) a huge Nickelback fan, I pity that fool. He used to tell me stories about how he was going to be their roadie.

I resign my argument......turns out the artist I like are hip-hop considered; not rap.
