Miri, that's exactly what I was thinking. I saw him as so incredibly smitten with the thought of freedom when he was at the tower, that the occasional (or more than occasional) fling factored somewhere below his actual escape on his 'emotional-response' meter. Until he was with the wardens however and freedom was more or less guaranteed :) His heart was able to pursue other things in earnest!

14 hours! no no no no!

Anders and Pounce to the rescue!!

@Lupus - thanks!! I used to love Nick at Night. We had it on in college a lot. Of course, it was completely hilarious then, due to other extracurricular activities that many such a college student (especially at Santa Cruz) partakes in >:)

I think I tend to make Anders a bit too nice and good - but he is older and reformed now that he's met Neria. Back with Namaya he was still a bit of a bad boy :).

It's interesting how much more of a jerk my Anders can be compared to yours.  Although I think it doesn't always come across since everything is filtered through maggie-vision and she worships the ground he walks on.  (and isn't exactly a paragon of morality herself.)  So she tends to excuse his general immaturity and past philanderer tendencies since they're really two of a kind in that regard.  He's not a womanizer anymore, but he doesn't see anything wrong with having been one in the past, if that makes sense.
I suppose yours is under the good influence of Neria while mine is under the horrible influence of Maggie.

I just find it interesting how many ways there are to intererperet the same characters and still keep them 'in character,' you know?

Yeah, I know that when I'm writing I'm always tempted to make the characters as reasonable (from my perspective, obviously) and well-meaning as I think I can get away with...even if they don't always succeed.

@Lupus It's almost certainly filtered through our experiences I think. I'm probably more prudish than you (I could be entirely wrong here, feel free to contradict me) being married and monogomous for ten years (holy crap, I didn't realise until I wrote that down how long I've actually been monogamous for...) so I've made Neria and through her Anders more prudish to fit my world view. Also Neria was ostracized by the other mages in the tower for siding with Jowan ( and having Cullen almost always with her) so she didn't have the same opportunities Maggie had :).

 She's the best Anders artist out there! I was so happy she decided to post this back.

Perhaps she will post THE PICTURE back soon?

@Miri: I think almost everyone is more prudish than me. Too many years hanging out and/or working in sketchy clubs. That'll warp anyone's worldview. (funny quirk of New York law... you can WORK at a bar you're too young to legally enter.)

You're right about Neria's ostracization, though... I suspect she would be more confidant if she had been scooped up by Duncan instead of left dealing with the fallout of the Jowan incident. And she's dealing with a different Anders, too... she's got the Anders who fell for an unattainable woman and has a few years of experience as a Warden already behind him, and under the command of someone who actually knew how to behave in public. Even if he was quite the ladies' man before, that would change him for sure. Maggie got the 'fresh from the tower' version so every moment he's had outside the circle has been with someone bouncing around him screaming 'screw the circle! let's do whatever we want!' in his ear like an irresponsible devil on his shoulder.

And ten years? I'm impressed. My record is, um, four. Ouch.

Anders is such an interesting character to me, because we see such a short span of time with him in the game. Depending on what happened before or after in his life, his character can be interpreted in so many ways while still being Anders. I love to read the way he evolves in other people's fics. I know he's different again in mine -- especially since he had a relationship with Surana before DAO starts, then thinks she's dead only to find her alive at the Vigil and in a relationship with Alistair. Oh, the drama! lol.

@Miri - I'm impressed with the ten years!

@Lupus - it's even scarier when I think that I was only 24 when I met him. That's still a teenager as far as I'm concerned.

Anders and Maggie are such a perfect match though. I think if my Anders met your Maggie he'd be sorely tempted to go back to having that much fun...

You know he just sweet talked her into doing whatever. Namaya is ridiculously fun to draw by the way.

Oh, and a quick drabbly thing....
Obviously during Awakening, so before Maeve and Anders are together.

"So, you just have a homely elf fetish then?"
"Excuse me?" Anders blanched at the question.
"Well, there's the staring at my ass, and oh, I don't know that woman. Namaya, was it?" Maeve said flicking out a hand behind her. "You know as well as I do that a woman doesn't mess with The Chantry unless she's getting a really nice pay off."
Anders narrowed his eyes. "Is that so? I remember someone stared down a Templar for me."
"Ha, ha. You got me. I am just so in love with you. So is Sigrun. Maker, Oghren's even been looking at you a little funny," Maeve frowned. "Anders, you used her. I really thought better of you."
Anders matched her expression. "Did I? Maybe I cared for her. You don't know."
"I do. If you... If you try that with anyone else I'll see that your ass is marched right back to The Tower. I can abide by murder, thievery, and even debauchery, but I won't allow the outright disrespect of -"
"I did care about her. Not as much as I should have, considering what she did or maybe more than I should have if she set us up. I'm not sure," he stepped toward Maeve. "Can we be done with this, Commander? Please?"
She raised her hand and touched his cheek. "For now."

@cave_fatuam  Excellent work there. Their expression was spot on!<3

10 years, Miri? That put you in my age bracket! Significant Other Half (SOH) and I had been married for 9 years and walking steadily toward the big number 10. :D

Ten years? Gah. That's ridiculously awesome. I'm coming up on 4 years with the boyfriend. It in no way feels like it's been that long. hehe I guess that's a good thing.

@tankgirly
Thanks! It was fun making use of a character that I don't really deal with.

@cave-fatuam Lovelovelove. It's great how she starts to say "if you try that with me..." :). And I love your colour stuff - haven't seen a huge amount of it before. Gorgeous.

@tankgirly Almost generation x-ers unite! I'm right on the cusp of X and Y, like to think of myself as the "I wish we could be easily defined" generation...

I'm definitely generation Y but apparently different people define it from the 70s to the millenium so that's really, really not specific.

@ Miri

Thank you. I've started doing more work in color. Work demands black and white, so I fell into a monochromatic funk. I'm slowly dragging myself out of it though. ^_^

@Estral

Thank you! :D Namaya's face isn't pretty, but is is structured well for subtle emotions.

I think quite a few of us are in that general between gen x and gen y ballpark.
Which begs the question- what is it about Anders that appeals so much to gals born in the late 1970s and early 1980s?

@cave_fatuam: That's fantastic. I love how she looks suspicious of him, and he just seems cheerfully oblivious.

@Lupus I think it's the combination of humour and easy-going-ness. Xers are usually in rebellion against their babyboomer parents for their materialistic ways. At least that's how I see it. I know my mum would NEVER have approved of Anders (although she was a war-baby and is not technically a baby-boomer). He's far too flippant for her - not serious enough about work and too hedonistic :).

My mother would prefer Alistair, or Nate. Anders and Zevran would never even made it through our house front gate.

Why do a picture a young Anders somehow trapped in Hogwarts (I hate Harry Potter fyi) sassing the sorting hat and all its choices.
