Yes, I was disappointed that Lamppost wasn't a better staff when I finally got it, since it looks so cool. I had Anders with the Staff of the Lost because it was better but it looks so boooorrring.

My PC felt so comically overpowered, even on Hard, that I pretty much cheesed my companions for the last part of the game (and I am not a good player). I did feel a little guilty for taking Spellfury away from Anders, since it was his MVP gift, but Lamppost just looks so cool and he's destructive enough without the additional boost.

Take Oghren with you to Kal'Hirol. There's a room with an anvil in it that triggers a really good conversation with him about Branka. It's one of the only times in Awakening outside his personal quest where he isn't just the token drunk dwarf.
I imagine all sorts of shades of Oghren in
Awakening because I'm forcing nuance where game mechanics fail. In SurelyForth Land, BW sets the player up to think "Old companion! Happy to see me! Awesome!" and, in actuality, Oghren is the hardest companion to gain approval from and, as it turns out, is pretty freaking broken. The last time I played the end of Origins, Oghren's speech at the gates made me cry so hard because he seemed incredibly optimistic about his prospects and then they're all
actively thrown away by the time you can recruit him in Awakening.
So, why he is the token drunk dwarf, he's also like a sad, alcoholic uncle who you think is amusing at first until you realized "Sh*t, this guy needs help." and, for me, that adds nuance where I'm almost certain BW didn't intend it.
