I love it. Nate looking irritated holding Ander's staffy while Anders devotes his undivided attention to The Pounce.

I think Teagan becomes a bit creepy in the epilogues where he marries Kaitlyn who is probably 16ish in the game. This is why I always give Tevin the sword back, because it keeps me from thinking about Teagan having a wife *that* young and Tevin is awesome.

[snipped]

Agreed.  Its very creepy.  I've paired Teagan up with Alfstanna in my fics - he deserves someone equally impressive.

Bevin does great things if you give him the sword - I like that idea  - he's such a brave soul.

I did the same thing!

@Miri: Didn't you say you would be limited to games that ran on your laptop for a while because of the baby?
Just think... how low are the system requirements for a game that came out ten years ago?  Any modern laptop (even the $300 wonder I have) can run a game like BG or the original Fallout easily!

@Lupus I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW! Luckily the laptop is a Mac so in order to actually download games from gog I'll have to also download software that will let me run it... and I've just discovered iTunes has all three seasons of Invader Zim, so I'll be able to stave off the nostalgia gaming for a while yet.

But.. the original Fallout... that magnificent sound whenever you take a turn.. it's calling me goddammit!

Oh, what's NOT to like about Teagan? Well, besides his age, of course. And the fact he's related to Eamon so he and Isolde would be my in-laws. Posted Image

Heh a couple good quaffs of Jowan's remedy would fix up that pest problem in your household really quick.  And being I am only a few years older than him, Teagan would be a younger man to me! YUM!Posted ImagePosted Image

Is it smutty screenshot time? Can I join in?

(I'd like this one much more if it didn't call attention to the GIANT HANDS the human female body model has in DA)

Seriously. Don't ****** Maggie off, or she'll crush your skull in her bare fists, apparently. (and that's with the natural bodies smaller hand mod!)

I honestly usually play elves in RPGs. (or half-elf if it's a D&D system game since the hit to constitution isn't as bad but the low light vision makes up for it.) I went with a human for my fic since I figured adding elf racism stuff on top of the "the world hates mages" main plot would be a bit much for something that wasn't supposed to be overly angsty.

I also didn't want to reinforce negative stereotypes (even stereotypes of fictional races) and it seemed like she would do just that if she was also an elf from what I'd already sketched out of her general personality. (not so much in game, but the constant jokes about elven ****s and the like in the books gave me the definite impression people had a belief about elven women being promiscuous.)

Seriously, I sat down and debated human or elf with myself for a good long time before I started writing. Because I am a spaz like that.

And I don't think Maggie would get away with 1/10th of what she does if she was an elf since she'd be working against two prejudices, and one would be something she couldn't downplay.

Plus, poor Amell... no one loves her. There are way more elf mage fics than human mage. Figured the gal needed some love. But yeah, her hands are way creepy. The girl could crush walnuts in her fists.

That makes sense.  It does add another layer of problems that could complicate, or even interfere with your story.  Particularly if its not where you want to go.

I'm not a particularly prolific (or a particularly good) fan fic writer but all my female protagonists are elves.   It works for me I think because the situation of elves in Ferelden is usually a driver of my plot (either directly or indirectly).  Partly because I'd read too many fics where the author handwaves the whole thing.  It annoyed me tbh.

haha - more than anyone wanted to know I'm sure.

Interesting what you say about the elves in Gaider's books.  I haven't read them and I probably won't (past experience with game related books).  I wonder what his thinking was with that or is it a function of the human prejudice?  Justify the sexual exploitation of elves because they 'want' it or 'ask' for it?

That's probably a discussion for another place - ramble ramble.

I really hated DA Elves until I started writing Neria. My first ever character in the game was an Amell who really got the short end of the stick. I started writing fic because of her and the total hash she made of her relationship with Alistair. The two of them are off being Grey Wardens together somewhere now.

I actually debated whether Neria would be Solona but I thought there'd be a danger she ended up too much like Miranda if she was human too. And I like that Anders has gotten a totally different LI.

If it won't derail too much - a question:

Do you guys usually write your fics with the main character being 'the warden'? Reading Miri's post just made me realise that only one of mine is 'the warden'. None of the others are actually wardens at all.

I suppose that means that the boys star in my stories - go guys ;-)

My big fics are warden-centric (Beginnings, Losses, Choices, Of Wardens and Mages and Fractures). Although OWAM and Fractures are equally from Anders' POV. I suppose Shades of Grey is KIND of warden centric, Aedan is the one who propels most of the plot even if he isn't the "good guy" IYKWIM? And Caged is split between Cousland/Alistair/Surana.

My one-shots are ALL NPC based though. I feel more comfortable writing short stuff about characters that are already established - possibly because the readers should already know quite a bit about those characters so you don't have to fill in so many blanks.

I'm sure Aedan thinks he's a good guy ;-)

The view of women from minority groups as sexually promiscuous is a very, very common prejudice in the US, sadly. Probably because the dominant culture here is still fairly puritan. American notions of sexuality are so broken it's almost comical. I could go into massive detail about it, but it's depressing and pretty off topic.
But, it does make sense that a North American author would add that into a fiction with a fantasy analogue for a real-world oppressed group. Canada and the US aren't interchangable culturally, but there are more similarities than between most other nations, and a lot of the US baggage gets passed along since they get all of our media north of the border.  (and we get all of theirs where I live on the border, which is probably why I use Canadian slang and follow hockey.)

My fics are all either Warden centric (to the point of being first person POV), or for one shots, in the same universe as those Warden centric fics. And still about Wardens, if not about "the" warden (IE the player character/Warden Commander/Hero of Ferelden/etc)

I think my next fic will be an Aeducan/Loghain, or maybe a Tabris/Daveth. (yes, I'm going AU. Eventually. Once I'm done with Maggie.) But yeah, I think I'll stay with the whole 'the warden' thing.

Well...I have a LOT of DA stories. Except for the ones I write every week for the Zevran, Anders, and Nathaniel prompt, I'm pretty sure most of them involve the Warden in some manner. I think I have five involving Bhelen and one where Anora has an idiotic Prince Cousland who thinks that he can marry her and have her assassinated so easily killed instead when she hears of his plan. And one about Elva and the ones I did about Adal Helmi, Loilinar Ivo, Oghren, Frandlin Ivo, Lady Dace, and Lord Helmi for that competition. Then there was the aftermath of Wynne and Leliana killing Alistair and unnamed Warden over the Ashes. And that one where Cailan decided to marry Celene and Loghain freaked out. I did one from Shianni's POV, one from Bryce's, one from Rica's, one from Cauthrien's, one from Morrigan's, a few from Alistair's (does he count? He is a Warden) and from Loghain's, one from Riordan, one from Eamon, possibly one from Morrigan's, and one from Harrowmont. But aside from that, they're usually all from the Warden's perspective. Damn, do I have a lot of stories.

@Lupus Tabris/Daveth? :o I'll be so sad when AOA is over and we stop seeing so much of Maggie (and, of course, Anders) but  Daveth fic would almost make up for that.
I'll flatter you by saying I'd probably still read a Loghain fic if you wrote it, but I can't get too enthusiastic. Complex, interesting character that he is I just do not like the man.

@Sarah: I loved the story of Morrigan and Zevran turning on Wynne and Leliana for killing the wardens.

@Miri: I didn't care much for Loghain until I read the first book. And then I was all just like this. Seriously. And the banter with dog just kills me every time. :crying:

But I had an idea for a pragmatic Aeducan who decides "screw Orzammar, I never wanted to be queen anyways" and stays on with the Wardens. When Loghain shows up in Awakenings she orders him to stay. Since obviously when his orders were written it was before the entire Warden contingent in Ferelden was killed off. Again. And the First Warden couldn't honestly expect her to send off the only other Warden in the country with more than a week's experience. They can bond over being surrounded by insane people.

But the Tabris/Daveth one is calling to me a bit more. I had such fun with him when I wrote the short bits with him in Blue Skies, I really want to do more. Just need to find a way to kill Jory off anyways since if Daveth lives he probably won't freak out like he did in-game, and I wouldn't be able to stand writing him that much.

Or I might just try to redo the Jowan story I started and canned ages ago...

Hey, Jory can die with the other wardens at Ostagar or just not legitimately survive the joining. And I actually like the idea of having Loghain in the same building as Anders - I don't imagine they would get on particularly well - at least not at first. Loghain/Justice banter would be pretty freaking hilarious too.

I'd also very much like to see tour take on a Tabris - you couldn't get much further away from Maggie motivation wise!
