Hehe. Review posted anyway. And no, it wasn't a steaming mess, it was great as always.
I wonder sometimes if Alistair fans are forced into insanity because of the constant Alistair/Loghain fights they're subjected to. Poor chooks. That romance REALLY screws with your brain - I actually cried the first time he dumped me.
Apparently the Morrigan romance is equally screwy. Must try it one day. Aedan is sleeping with her but planning to dump her before the end.

That romance does mess with you. My first time playing I went with it since, well, how can you not with the way the game throws him at you. And then he dumped my ass after the landsmeet.   It's funny that the romances they really push are both the most screwed up as well as the only ones with any kind of closure (queen ending/morrigan dlc).
It does feel like they expect you to take one of those two, though. Almost every conversation with Alistair has some kind of romance starter hidden in there.

When I finally tried the Zevran romance for the first time I was so completely impressed with how deep and complex it was that I was almost resentful of the game for shoving me at Alistair so frequently.  I get the feeling that, if they actually put romances in Awakenings, the Anders one would have been more like that. Less a straightforward road from start to finish, more an "I've got issues" winding path.

Yup - and the Nathaniel romance would have been all dark and twisted and broody and would have ended badly, whereas the Anders one would be difficult but end fantastically.

They were SO going to do romances - imagine how cool it would be to romance Sigrun! Convincing her not to go on her calling would be a great dialogue tree if you were romantically involved with her...

I also sometimes wish there was an option to pair up your party members - it would have been hilarious in Origins to pair Alistair and Morrigan up so they could screw with each OTHER'S heads instead of my character's.

Alistair and Morrigan would have fantastic hatesex.
I wish there was inter-party romances, like in BG2. I can actually see Alistair and Leliana ending up together, though, way before he would end up with Morrigan.

A Sigrun romance would be fantastic. And there's so much awesome drama potential in a Nathaniel romance with a human noble.
Ugh, now I'm all frustrated they didn't include them.  Well, more than usual.

Yes!  I so wanted to match Alistair and Leliana up.  (looks around for flying object and ducks).  I just think they'd be so cute together.

I have to believe they intended Awakenings to be DA2 but for reason someone said "No!  Stop now, chop out bits and release it.  We're off to tweak the graphics engine!  I have a cunning plan...."

I think Ali/Lelli works really well, despite the fact that the Alistair thread would lynch me for saying it. Scarylady seems to be shipping Anders/Lelli at the moment - I'm not sure how I feel about that pairing - they would TOTALLY sleep with each other but as for a lasting thing.. not so certain. It's possible I'm just jealous, however.

They did a really good job modeling Leliana and Morrigan's faces in Origins - they're both beautiful. ANDERS/Morrigan would be interesting...

I prefer Alistair amd Morrigan match up. I like odd, mismatched couples. leliana and Alistair would be too cute for my tastes.

Now leliana and Sten...... :)

Its an odd thing.  Anders/Leliana - sounds fun to me.  Anders/Morrigan - the thought of it sends me off on a fangirl rampage.    Probably because I'm not fond of Morrigan (I send her away at Lothering or leave her in camp and never talk to her or use her).

Must be like my thoughts on Nate/Velanna as a pairing - that causes my inner fangirl to run around the house growling and snarling.

On topic though - I think Anders and Leli could make a go of it - if they both wanted to.  She's deeper than she appears at first glance imho and so is he.  Oh great, now its churning over  in my mind...

Arsinoe de Blassenville seems to be working towards an Anders/Morrigan ship in Victory at Ostagar. It's entertaining.

I don't much care for Anders/Leli, but her comments about elves and the maker and everything else just make her seem like someone who doesn't question common prejudices and preconceptions. So she would probably be a bit on the 'but mages are dangerous" side of the fence. I can see her making some innocently intended comment and then, well, Anders Disapproves -25.

But you and I are both in the "Anders needs another mage" camp, so who knows, maybe that's it.

Hmmmm... I'm definitely in the Anders and Leli would flirt with each other mercilessly, but it wouldn't amount to anything camp. I just don't think they would get along if it came down to something more serious than let's compliment each other's pretty hair and tell ridiculous stories!

That being said I like scarylady's Leli a lot more than standard game Leliana... as someone who mostly plays elves Leliana kind of gives me an eye twitch.

Ok, I haven't been reading Victory at Ostagar and now want to. I might wait till it's finished though. I'm getting twitchy about how many fics I follow - there are too many other things I should be doing - like raising my children...

@Cave I agree about Lelli - she's so "accidentally racist! oops, my bad!"

Both of her DA fics are very good. The other is funny as hell (even though I know you're not a Loghain fan), and that one is very clever. Just seeing the shreds of Loghain's little plans here and there despite the battle being won is fascinating, and she managed to combine most of the origins and Anders as well so far.

I may be biased, though. She gives me some excellent, really insightful reviews, and we trade ideas back and forth on occasion.

And yes, leli the unintentional racist. Dwarves, too, not just elves. That comment about how she could get a job reaching things on shelves was a bit WTF. And it defied logic, too... why would the dwarves even build things they couldn't reach?

The comment about helping the KING get things off high shelves...there's a reason she's long-since lost Orzammar privilges in my game. At least elves get to call her on it!

I'm not a Loghain fan it's true - I just can't get around the fact that he's one of those people who are ALLERGIC TO HAPPINESS. He just does everything in his power to make sure he's miserable all the time. I want to force feed him prozac.

First playthrough I fully expected that he was under the influence of some spell of Howe's or being controlled by a blood mage. When it turned out he wasn't I didn't have any trouble chopping his head off.

@Sarah:  You're right, it was the king! I haven't heard it in a bit since, like you, I leave her to warm the log by the campfire when I go to Orzammar. The last thing the Wardens need is someone wandering around with them making short jokes.

Going further OT, but I just noticed something odd. In the one Oghren dialogue you get if you're in the Zevran romance the line "didn't think she'd go for an elf" is flagged for human noble or dwarf, while the line "figures she'd go for an elf" is flagged for elf or mage. I'm wondering if it's a messup or some comment on mages being strange. (since it could have easily been flagged elf/non-elf because even elven mages will get any elf-only dialogue since they're flagged by race and class.)

@Miri: I always figured nothing could ever make him happy again after what happened in the book. He just became such a broken man after. *emo tear*
And her story is a deadpan snarker Loghain, not a Captain Miserable Loghain, so you might not mind it so much.

I do have a lot of sympathy for him, but I just can't stand being around people like that so I have no desire to have him in my party (that sounded a bit Leliana - this is not some deep seated hatred of depressed people). That's one of the reasons I love Anders so much. He's so cheerful all the time, even though it's obvious some pretty horrible things have happened to him.

Oh, I can understand that completely. I'm looking forward to writing him and Maggie together just because she's so obnoxiously chipper at times, and will feel the need to give him all sorts of well-intentioned but horrifying advice on cheering up.

Loghain/Maggie is going to be fabulous- I can't wait. You need to hurry up and finish this thesis of yours so you can write full time for us. I still want to lock you and Cave and Gala up in my basement. I should have been a noblewoman in the fifteenth century - I would have blown all my money being a patron of the arts.

I'm strongly debating if she'll suggest he try to get laid. I think she might. That's her cure for everyone's bad mood.

And the idea of his utterly bewildered and horrified reaction makes me grin...

I'm trying to finish a blue skies chapter, with Zevran and Maggie torturing Wynne for their own amusement, but Anders keeps demanding attention.

This is the trouble with two stories going at once...

Oh god, I can just imagine Loghain's reaction to THAT advice. It would be completely priceless.

As far as the two fics at once thing... TELL me about it. I've got Shades and Fractures (and whichever story I'm NOT doing a chapter for is always the one that I WANT to be writing) and mage smut on the battlements and an Alistair prompt and an Alim Awakenings playthrough fic AND the Oghren fic all jumping up and down trying to get my attention.

Currently magesmut is winning, possibly because my husband is away. And Anders in the rain is unbelievably hot (it's currently raining here too, which doesn't help). Also, I haven't drawn anything today yet, so I have to do that. And I'm distracting myself by looking at graphics tablets online that I'm NOT ALLOWED until I've been drawing for at least six months so WHY AM I EVEN LOOKING AT THEM?

Oh, and I've got two kids. I always forget that one...

I have no idea how you guys manage to do multiple stories at once. I mean, in the past I've had multiple chapter-stories going at once but they were for different fandoms. If they were for the same one, I'd get hopelessly confused.

Well, Maric DID have the responsibility to make sure his line didn't die out and Cailan and even Alistair are no guarantees.

Word of God says no. Avilia would be able to find the link for it (she's good at that) but I don't have the first idea of how to start...

@Sarah multiple stories doesn't really get confusing in my head for some reason - I think it's because if I'm doing two they're always very different to each other. If I'd been trying to write Fractures at the same time as Of Wardens and Mages I would have had trouble - same characters, same setting etc. but Shades and Fractures have different focuses. And I look at the one-shots I'm doing as expansions of the story I'm already writing, so they're not confusing either.

There is the problem that I always want to be writing the one I'm not writing though.
