I'm saving Anders' thread from falling into oblivion by revealing to those who doesn't know yet that his name means "Manly, courageous" (we knew that he's very courageous already, of course, but now we know that it's the magic of the name too :wizard: )

Photographic evidence that I put Anders through the same hell and torment as Alistair even if it is less hell and torment.

Is he being burnt by magical fire whilst enjoying al-fresco dining facilities?

Where is that second shot taken?

I don't know what's happening, tbh. There were no mages attacking us. Maybe he was destructo maging himself?

Both shots are from the guard shack in Amaranthine. You can only access it if you side with the smugglers over Constable Aidan/the city guard. I needed to see what was going on up there, for research purposes. It seems like we interrupted their dinner or something.

Hehe. It looks like a nice little tapas joint I used to go to when I lived in Newtown - had rooftop tables and a lovely view... Mmm. Might have to go back there this weekend...

I've never sided with the smugglers. Actually no, that's a lie, I did once by accident and couldn't take the self esteem bashing I got whenever I talked to one of the city guards, so re-loaded.

Whatever you have Anders doing Surely, he doesn't seem to be enjoying it ;-)

Is that Mhairi in the background? Was this before she died or is there a mod to have her available in the game?

Isn't that the bit where he's hiding near the Withered?

Yeah, that does seem more like it. I just don't remember there being any cutscenes where Anders looked like that.

Yes - the bit just before the Withered.
If you send him away when you first meet you get a cutscene on the roof :)

Ahh, that explains it.

I've never sent him away in that first encounter, he just seems so eager to help!

I never had either until I found out about the cutscene - quite recently.

If you can do without him until then its well worth trying it out :)

Wow - so I never knew that you'd get a second chance to recruit him. Now I need to play the beginning again and send him away so I can see this additional cutscene!

lol Anders' response to Oghren's "I ****** on risk" line. I just started an Orlesian Warden this weekend and have been enjoying playing her (DW Warrior). My core group is Anders, Nathaniel and Sigrun (sometimes Justice)

I've never NOT recruited him when I first found him.  He's just so adorable Posted Image

Hmm, page 2. Not so bad though, the Zev thread is languishing down here with us.

I blame that singing redhead and her wily DLC ways ;-)

Not that anybody cares, but my RP justification for not recruiting him at the outset (besides my PC not giving a damn about apostates in general) is that I don't want to inadvertently force him into a situation that he might find worse than the one he's trying to escape.

I care!  And its sound reasoning.  I like the option to tell him its his chance to escape.

It definitely makes him a more interesting character that he comes back to help.  Not because he has to but because its what he thinks is right.

I wonder if I start sending the thoughts out now if we can manage Anders for DA3?

Oh now I've said it, my brain's ticking. I wonder if Anders keeps getting caught because he stops to help and thus makes himself a stationary target for the Templars?

Would fit with the description on his neck item...hmmm.

That's my theory, and I'm sticking by it, too. He's so genuinely upset about the whole Velanna trickery situation and the idea of leaving Amaranthine to burn that I feel like it fits his character perfectly.

It would also add a great deal of frustration to his desire for freedom and the way he's treated when he's caught. Like "I get out of the tower and I help people. Real dangerous."
