@Miri: you can block him. Go to settings, and then "general" under "personal" and there's a box you can enter blocked users into. Might be worth it to spare yourself the annoyance.

(and hey, someone who has gotten involved in the some of the more rude and judgey discussions on peopleofthedas just left me an oddly condescending review offering constructive criticism. Um... no thanks. Especially since they don't actually seem to write anything themselves)

@Lupus I don't know what she said, but if people offer criticism it needs to be constructive, and preferably private. I've got a few people who beta for me after I've posted (pointing out inconsistencies and spelling mistakes) but they always do it via private message which is really lovely. But considering AOA is what.. nearly ninety chapters long? it's probably a bit late to be saying stuff like "I don't like where this is going" or "You need to work on your character development..." (neither of which is true any way).



I reported the troll for spam, btw.

And yes, edging up on 90 chapters.  Not counting the story before it.  So... a bit late if she wants to tell me "your character blows" or whatever.

 Me, too. Unfortunately, one of them only made the list after already having read at least one and being very vocal about it.

I have a list, too. There was a time I thought making such a list would offend people. But those trolls are just everywhere. After I found them publicly bashing another artist on their site (to be fair, they did that on their own site, but all the bashing was there for the public to see), that was it. I had to made a list.



During the sweetfoxy drama, that list just grew longer. XD



Anyway, nice piccie, Lupus. And 90 chapters? I will drew my hat if someone point out the inconsistencies!

@Tank Yes the Sweetfoxy drama really did separate out the ****s from the nice people. Made me so angry. I'm just so awed by people who are willing to share their stuff in a public forum. It's such a new thing for me, and I love it so much that if anyone does something to stop someone from sharing I want to strangle them. Truly, we're not getting paid for this stuff, so be nice!

Trolls don't bother me, I think they're funny. There's a bit in a Douglas Adams novel about a woman who likes to get into arguments with pizza shops to release tension and I find sometimes arguing with a troll does the same thing. You have an excuse to get really, really angry and shout and yell, but you're not hurting anyone so it's cathartic and fun instead of horrible and soul destroying.



I also like to do that with Foxtel representatives. I always preface it with "I know this isn't precisely YOUR fault, but I'm just going to rant at you for a while because your service sucks so badly." They always understand.

Ugh, that reminds me of one of the reviews that I got that bothered me more than most. This person wrote a pretty detailed review about how they liked my writing style but they could not read past chapter five of my story because they thought that the story I was writing was beneath my talent. They weren't even saying that I shouldn't be 'wasting' my talent on fanfiction, just that the story I happened to be writing was a waste. I mean, what do you do with 'you're a good writer but should write better stories', anyway? 

I couldn't write anything for a good two days after that.

I seriously don't get people. But then, I don't get leaving negative reviews, either. If I don't like something I just stop reading it.

@Sarah, I think every skill needs a practice and I see nothing bad in writing fanfics. You start from fanfics and then you will (maybe, if you wish to) become an awesome writer. Besides, some fanfics make bad days better

Their problem wasn't that I was writing fanfic. It was that they thought that the particular fanfic story I was writing was 'beneath' me which I think is actually worse as you can brush off 'Write a real novel' far easier than 'Fanfic is fine but X? Come on, you're better than that'.

As for reviews...I try to be nice but sometimes I worry that something might not come out right since I tend to leave detailed reviews about whatever occurs to me while reading.

See, I get to the end of a chapter and I've forgotten what I wanted to say - I'll fully admit I'm a dreadful reviewer, at least online. If I had a red pen in my hand you guys would be getting my annotated commentary all the way through the read. My kids always complain that they can never see their work underneath all my scribbles when I mark .

Anyone can read reviews. I'd say two or three sentences is a decent review although I usually leave more. And speaking of...Lupus, this weekend was really hectic and I still haven't finished my paper (though I'm hoping I can do that tomorrow) and then I can get back to reading your story.
