@Estral: Thank you!

@Surely: That was such fun! (I know at least one guy who has 'borrowed' a nephew to go out and do just that)

Hey, top of page!

Gah. My prompt self-imploded. I'm going to have to start again. But in a day or so - Fractures is actually flowing for a change.

Have an Anders!

Thought about this while in a boring all day meeting trying to write a multi thousand page technical document by consensus.

Our Children

Wet and tired. It’d been one long day slogging through the Blackmarsh, and Anders’ feet were wet. He’d taken his boots off, warming his toes and drying his feet by the fire.
Sigrun barreled into the great-room, her pony tails bouncing. “Anders, you’re finally back! Come quick.”
“What what?” He forced his chilled bones up to follow, his wet feet slapping the slate floors, leaving wet prints, right to Anders’ own room.
“Here,” she grabbed his hand and pulled him to a basket by the bed. “I’ll get everyone else. And congratulations by the way.” She was grinning as she headed out the door.
The basket was about the width of a good ale barrel, and the depth of a fine bottle of wine. Anders peered in.
“Ser-Pounce-A-Lot. What are you up to in there?” He asked. The marmalade tabby was curled up at the bottom, purring so loud Anders’ worried it would break. “Wait? What are those?” Three small balls of fur were nestled up against his cat. Anders eyes went wide. “Pounce! I thought you were getting a bit pudgy. But, I thought you were a Tom cat! Not a Queen.”
Sigrun came back, and right behind her were the other five wardens, all laughing and joking.
Anders held a finger out to one of the kittens, stroking it lightly. It was soft.
“Good on you, Bub,” Said Oghren.
“Congratulations, Anders,” Nathaniel said in his soft baritone.
Anders reached for Pounce, giving her a good pet. She smiled up at him. He glanced up to his friends, greeted by their happy faces.
A feeling that Anders first couldn’t identify, as it had been a long time since he had felt it, started in his stomach, expanding into his chest. A warm feeling, a satisfied feeling. As the others patted him on his back, he petted his kitty and her children.
My family

@Wedger: that's adorable :)

(Although I think there are few things in this world cuter than kittens)

Good thing Ser is used for men and women in Ferelden!

Yep.  While we were discussing noise impacts to echinoderm larvae, today, I was wondering if Pounce would need a name change if he were a shePosted Image

More attempts at trying to relearn how to draw. I still don't have the hang of faces yet, but I'm starting to remember how this works again. (Mostly because I remembered that even when I was at my best I couldn't just draw something referenceless- I even had little wooden figures for poses and such).

Anders looks kind of... demonic. So faces are, clearly, still an issue. And I didn't even bother trying to tackle more than just Maggie's nose.

But at least they're proportioned like humans. Mostly.

@Surely, awwww, these two are my absolute favourites! Bryce is so adorable!  And I love how Brand accompanies them. lol, Oriana for example would've been all: "How dare you to teach my son to deceive other people????? Do you want him to grow up a criminal???" And Brand is: "Ok, it's funny and cute".
@Wedger, aww, kittens. <3 I love it!
@Lupus, oooh, Maggie and Anders are doing their favourite thing?
I can't draw anything complicated without a referece picture as well. I remember anatomy when the person is standing still or lying, but when people move -> :pinched:

@Wedger *dies from cute* I had a very similar thing happen to me when I was 7, and it was one of the happiest days of my young life.

And thanks, everyone! But special thanks to Gala for the prompt (and the excuse to write gratuitous Bryce and Anders fun).

@Surely- Bryce's burying his face in Anders leg is just tugged at my heart strings...adorable.

@Wedger - So dadgum cute!

@Lupus- I have a floor-length mirror and I have to pose for all my drawings. I can do normal stuff without a reference, but things like Maggie looking over her tuckus, that's the sort of thing you don't have a real mental reference for.
The things my poor boyfriend has walked in on me doing. XD

Also I'm on Team!PromptImplode. :/

I am a fan of stock photos in that regard.

(although it is better than the often-creepy people who would pose for my figure drawing class.)

I want to do another prompt, a funny one. That'll have to wait, though, as I'm bouncing between the latest chapter of blue skies and a final paper for philosophy.

I suppose if I have to make sure one gets crossover it would be better to get heidegger in my fanfic than fanfic in my heidegger.

I think my favorite thing about children is that they'll ask you damn near anything without worrying about the ramifications. So, Samahla from this asks Anders a few questions.
----------------------------Questions and Answers-----------------------------------
Anders stretched out a leg in the hammock. The bowl of blueberries on his chest counterbalanced by the cat near his feet. From somewhere below him a little voice asks, "Andy, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure, Sam."
"Where does the sun go at night?"
"Antiva."
"Why is the grass green?"
"Because it isn't red. I thought you had a question."
"How many people are there in the world?"
"More than you can count, and more than I could be bothered to."
"Why are my ears pointy?"
"You're an elf, silly."
"Can I have a bite?"
"Yes."
He offers her the bowl, which she takes greedily.
"Do you like me?" She pops a handful of berries into her mouth.
"What?"
"Do you like me?"
Anders half opens one eye and finds himself face to face with the little towheaded elf.  "Why are you asking me that Sam?" She's gnawing at her tunic sleeve and he pulls it away from her blue-stained mouth before sitting up, careful to maintain his balance and gingerly move the dozing cat.  He takes her round little face in his hands. "I like you, Samahla. I," he takes a breath, "I love you." He ruffles her hair and smiles.  "You know that."
"I thought you might not like people like me," she ventures, visibly fighting the impulse to bring her sleeve back to her mouth.
"Elves? I think Mae would tell you that I'm quite fond of her," Anders says trying to keep from laughing.
"No," she screws up her face. "A kid."
"What makes you say that?" He is suddenly hit with a feeling of unease. This was going to be one of those sort of conversations.
"Well, when the puppies came here. I asked how they got here. You said Vorenus loved Niobe and they made the puppies."
"Yes, I did say that. Didn't I?" Oh sweet Maker in his vaulted heaven.
"You love Mae, but you don't have any puppies," she says clearly distressed.
"Well, we've got you," he runs a hand over her hair trying desperately to comfort her for both their sakes.
"'S not the same as from her belly, Andy."
"No, I suppose it's not, kid. I could lie to you and say it is the same, but lying is bad, isn't it?"
She nods slowly.
"Let's just say being a Grey Warden made me sick in a way that even I can't heal, so I can't have 'puppies' with Maeve. I would though... if you ask her and she asks."
"Okay, Andy," she says satisfied with his answer. She tries to wriggle into his lap, but he stops her before she tumps them both out of the hammock. He wraps his arms around her and leans back in one fluid motion.
"Can I ask another question?" Samahla buries her head into his chest and yawns.
"Why do you ask me so many questions?" Anders smiles into the top of her head.
"'Cause your my da and you know everything, silly. Can I ask my question now?"
Anders felt himself smirk at no one in particular as the wave of pride washed over him.  "Sure, Sam. Ask away."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, that was treacle covered in honey and molasses, yeah? Will report back with art later. ;D

@Cave OMG so beautiful. My daughter hasn't reached the "why" stage yet but I truly can't wait. She does ask all the time "do you love me?" though which is kind of cute. I loved "No, I suppose it's not, kid. I could lie to you and say it is the same, but lying is bad, isn't it?"

I hate that adults think children have to be protected from everything - they've actually got really good coping mechanisms. Tantrums being one of the best. I've got a friend who goes nuts if you mention the word "die" anywhere near their child, but that just leaves them totally unprepared if something DOES go wrong.

@Miri Thanks. That line was the basis for the entire piece. It was actually part of something else that I just dropped when I got to it, because that just seemed right.
The "Why?" phase was a lot of fun with my younger siblings. I'd tell them the truth about everything and about drove my mother crazy. I just don't believe in completely coddling children. There are obviously things you shouldn't explain to them in detail, but we tell them constantly not to lie and then lie right to their faces.

I'm trying to write filthy Zevsmut here, and you go distracting me with adorableness and so on!

@Wedger - Thanks. Coming up with the questions was fun.

@Lupus - Unfortunately, Samahla's tiny elven cuteness will counteract Zev's elven smexiness. ;3

Now I have an image of a tiny Zev putting on the charm like Bryce. It's a pity Zev's childhood was so sad - he could have been unbearably cute.

Scrapping my original idea for my prompt because although it was an awesome thought, it just doesn't work on paper :(. Instead we may be revisiting Anders' childhood :)

I have zero objections to that. I loved your stories of young Anders. :)

(scrapped the zev smut, saved it for another chapter. It put the chapter at like fifteen pages in Word... way too long, even by my standards.)

Implied Zev smut is almost as good as actual Zevran smut. Spent the morning downloading Portal for my laptop. In the process discovered that my laptop has been set for "power conservation" rather than for efficiency. MY GOD, I didn't know windows opened that quickly!
